great video man! so far i really like the shadow rap for cold water bass. Havn't got to try it for pike yet, hopefully next week there will be more open water.
Just saw this video and you have a nice collection of lures and yea I have a stash just like this too! I know that this is an old video but one thing that I will mention, on that snap swivel on the red/white spoon, get rid of that snap and use some split ring pliers and connect the swivel to the split ring. These snaps can be a weak link and it would be a shame if you lost a big pike because of this. Good luck and tight lines!! :)
I'll agree with the top 5, maybe not in the exact order, but the right baits. Spinner baits always produce numbers. X-raps, husky jerks and shadow raps work great when slower presentations or finesse is needed. And spoon is the classic, always seems to catch nice pike anywhere.
I was in Canada a bit ago and the pike absolutely loved the black and white weedless daredevel. Got a 30", 35" 38" 40" and 42" that Im having reproduced for my wall
Your 5th most favorite is my first. Takes a lot longer to get a bite but it is always giant fish and never falls down. Pink and Silver mix work best for me.
Do you have a blaze ripbait fishing lure it's a jerkbait and the one with the orange body under some of them in the first space on second column? I was wondering if it's a good bait to use.
I know a lot of people like the Dardevle spoons, but I prefer the Mepps Syclops. I've never had success with the Dardevles, but I have had much success with the Syclops - mostly for largemouth bass but also for pike. Still, I understand my experience may not be typical.
NoExitLoveNow Mepps Cyclops is good. Also other Mepps spinners like Aglia, size 3 or 4 are good for smaller fish like perch, trout or grayling. Sometimes you can catch pikes as well with those small spinners.
I fished with a hook & worm and used a washer for a sinker ! And as I was reeling up the line a huge pike grabbed the washer but of course I had no hook . If there active anything shiny works .
Nice videos, truly enjoy them...THANK YOUMy choices:1. Husky Jerk 2. large spinnerbait 3. #5 Mepps Aglia 4. big white/grey wobble tail powerbait 5. dead tie between lighter daredevil fakes and 5-6 inch homemade glidebaits (neutral buoyant) ...and I fish the river that yours ends up in and slightly to the west of that juncture.
when are you gonna start hitting the rivers? i just went out to the red cedar river down the road from my house. i live in fowlerivlle, i didnt catch any though it was too cold and too windy
Some good choices there try a 5-6 paddle tail in White and my favorite try a Mepp’s # 5 white and red with dressed white tail and one in Firetiger both spinner and dressed. Good fishing and FYI my biggest Pike came on a Mepp’s 47 inches
My best pike lures and recommendations: (Most are spoons) 1: Bete Crocodile, 2: Kuusamo Professor, 3: Mikado Simon, 4: Mikado Zoe, 5: (Other Kuusamo, Bete or Mikado spoons), 6: Rapala XRap, 7: Rapala Shad Rap, 8: Rapala Jointed, 8: Any Spinner bait, 9: Rattle Trap (Or any lipless crank), 10: Abu Garcia Atom.
BigMike315Fishing I suppose if you see mine you will drool. I tell you I have a Sharpie King Size topwater and I have a popper inside of a popper...yeah. I have a lot of stuff like a Tsunami with two blades facing opposite each other with a treble and a willow blade trailing it....Yeah. I have a dildo topwater in white. I have an actual banana topwater. I have custom hand painted LC Pointers....one is Nemo. I have spoons that adopt angles so that the swim is randomized and you can vertical jerk it. Well, I was just saying....didn't mean to brag. I just wanted to say how much I love my lures.
I turned my chatterfrog into a brownish goby chatterbait with two gill fins that are made from sea shells....imagine that. And the giant blade is custom cut by non other than me. Yeah, this is very possible.
My favorite lure is Savage gear 3D rainbow trout its just catches me too many pike its like my best lure hahaha i got a 14lb on it and alot of 5lb and 7lb and i got last week a 12lb on it and i lost one about 14-16lb on it and got endless amount of small pike
An X Rap is basically a universal bait. No matter where you go, fresh or salt, it can catch fish. I’ve caught largemouth, peacock, bowfin, snook, redfish, mackerel, and jacks on them! I don’t doubt they’d catch Pike either.
Ryan Joseph ah yes, you were just born with an innate knowledge of everything including how to fish? No practice at all? No first attempts? No learning
You can never have enough lures! Or if you wanna sound more 'professional' its... "different tools for different scenarios"... :-) My favorite pike lure, in Winter, is live bait (medium or large Shiners) a foot off the bottom or over weed tops. In Summer it depends on the depth but have caught bigger (35-38") pike row trolling musky baits like 'Believers' and on big 10-12" stick baits with a slow side to side 'wobble'. The canoe just stops/turns when a good one hits! It's boatloads of fun :-) lol Great video Josh, keep em coming!
I understand what you are doing in this video, but that's not a daredevl lure. BUT, the knockoffs work just as well! I am a fan of the "five of diamonds" as its nicknamed, over the red and white spoon. it is the yellow spoon with the red diamonds..
+Peelindrag fair enough. didn't know if you knew for sure that it was or wasn't. I haven't used an x-rap yet, are they floaters, considering the cover pike like to be in?
+lake superior yooper also, for the viewers who don't know any better, a knockoff daredvl will work just as well as the real thing and is a great substitute as the cost between the two can be as much as $10!
+Isabella Plos drop a heavy lure down into deep water let it sink to the bottom then reel in really fast pausing every now and then for a second drop real up fast some more then drop back to bottom, thats what i did and worked great
Great video! We just started back up our channel and found your videos actually very helpful, keep up the good work and maybe you could check us out sometime!
You're havin a laugh surely ?, 5 top Pike lures! this must be a wind up or you must mean a different fish to the pike we know over in Europe. You know those broad deep crocs that can reach 70.lbs. and you throw it a perch sized rapala, what an insult. America specializes in big lures for big Esox species. Not a single classic pike/musky lure in the whole box. No bulldawgs, no Jakes, Shallow or depth raiders, believers, squirrely Burts, No "proper jerkbaits", A pike can eat a preyfish one third the size of it's own body. Don't get me wrong at times pike will readily hit small forage baits , but most of the time they prefer to conserve energy by catching the biggest possible dinner in one large hit. You wouldn't be taken seriously if you rocked up to fish for pike and opened one of those boxes of perch lures people would laugh their bollocks off .
Yes, I am talking about northern pike. If you use different baits that's totally fine. I catch tons of pike every year and a big pike for my area would be around 15lbs, so there is no need for giant lures. I catch plenty of pike on my lures, and I'm sure you catch plenty on yours. Pike are aggressive fish, they will hit a lot of different baits. No need to get worked up about fancy lures.
It's not only about using big lures... I used to throw 100gr. jerkbaits all day long and cought some huge pike in the proces.. these days i'm having just as much, or even more fun using a popper, fly or frog. Biggest pike... 118cm 10,7kg, cought on a 15gr. streamer
