From the Spellbinders website: "The BetterPress Letterpress system is great because it works with so many other machines! A rule of thumb is that any machines that can Glimmer, or can cut Steel Rule Dies can also use BetterPress. The BetterPress system is NOT compatible with any machines that can't cut Steel Rule Dies or that don't have at least a 6" wide platform." Source: spellbinderspaperarts.com/pages/betterpress So unfortunately I can't say for sure since SPA does not explicitly list the SPA Grand Calibur under their compatible machines, nor does it exclude it.
Thorough demonstration Jaycee. Beautiful cards panels as well. I did experiment with mine and was able to color with my Olo markers and the Saffron Archival ink with no bleeding or smearing of the Saffron ink ( let the panel sit overnight before coloring) This new tool has so many possibilities. Love that we have 2 sources for BetterPress plates. I too am wishing for something besides flowers. ;)
Thank you for sharing your tips! According to Spellbinders, the BetterPress Ink is formulated similarly to Archival Ink from Ranger. I bet that's why it works so well!

Hi Jaycee. I always look forward to your videos when new product is released. Your are the official Tester/ Researcher for all of us. Thank you for explaining the Better Press system and the Altenew plates. Also, I appreciate your research into the papers, inks, and mediums that work best with the Press. It takes the guess work out of it for us so we don't get so frustrated. I love your wish list at the end of the video. I always know you are going to ask for your Signature Black Cardstock for your gorgeous cards. I hope they all come true❤
Jaycee, I am loving my betterpress system. I tried it out with 140lb black cotton watercolor paper with metallic ink and the results were amazing! Never thought to try foil on the cotton paper and now cant wait to do it.
What a great review video! You covered all the bases indeed. I was looking around on Altenew's web site this morning and just happened on to their new dies for the Better Press before I even saw videos on them. I was so excited. Thank you for such a great review and demo on them.

Also, I always thought Altenew had a whole collection of stamp sets that would be perfect for as ink blocks or letter press plates. It's so awesome to see that they are using the style from that collection & making them into press plates. This has been long-awaited for some of us!
I watched Yana smacula and one of the inventors and he stated the reason for the three shims is that spellbinders will be coming out with more product and will use less than the three shims and for maximum coverage you need to use the three shims. Also do not run it back through your machine as someone did that on a video and it blurs the design.
Yes, that is a very helpful point. The BetterPress Letterpress gives the best impression when run in a single direction one time in the die cutting machine.
Jaycee, I can always count on you to do the research and for precise guidance - OH, and gorgeous examples, too! Stunning results using the Altenew Betterpress plates to hot foil! I have always admired the look of letterpress - thank you, Altenew for adding these plates to their incredible collections of products! =]
@JayceeGaspar I also think the Hero Arts watercolor cardstock would be a good candidate. It's thick and quite soft so it might take an impression well. Gold or silver ink on black would be stunning.

Excellent video...thank you! Still on the fence about this product though. Cost of decent cotton paper seems excessive... For the majority of us, this is just a hobby...not a business! Perfection is not a word in my vocab when making cards...it is after all "hand made"! So close enough works for me....

Thank you for testing out Arches and Altenew paper! I was curious about both but I don't have either on hand since I stink at watercolor. Watercolor and I are not a love match. I was impressed with how much brighter the image pressed into the Altenew watercolor paper appeared. My experiments with inks other than BetterPress match yours. My tests with dye based inks -- I've tried Altenew Crisp, Altenew Fresh Dye, Catherine Pooler, and Concord & 9th -- all produced results that were inferior (in my opinion) to the BetterPress ink. Like you, the dye ink tended to pool on the plate which resulted in bleeding, spidering and, if my ink pads were very juicy, blotchy areas. The last ink I plan to test is the Ranger Archival. I really appreciate the thoughtful tips you took the time to test and share!
I saw a really good deal on a Betterpress system but I need to know if it's worth buying, so of course I went straight to your video cuz I trust your review. Thank you for the detailed information, as usual, you have helped me decide. One question though: can you use the glimmer platform to betterpress since essentially you said the sandwiches are pretty much the same? I imagine the magnetic platform is better bec it will hold everything in its place, but if that isn't a big deal, can you betterpress with a glimmer system? Thank you in advance!😊

Jaycee, loved this video! I have had mine a few weeks and haven’t yet used it. I feel equipped to do so now that I have watched your video, these are all things I would have tried and possibly still might. I love the requests for more color ways to color the impressions. Until your video I had no idea that Altenew had produced BetterPress plates also. I love when companies work together to grow the crafting options rather than sue other companies that improve on their products…. Ultimately that only hurts the crafters. So proud of Altenew and Spellbinders for communicating and improving our experience. I am an avid crafter and purchase many, many products from both Altenew, Spellbinders and many others monthly. You answered almost every question that I had, so now I'll know if it's just me when something doesn't work! 😂 Also, I appreciate how concise you were, in order to get as many questions answered as possible. No kidding, I've had a couple of weeks of jotting down questions while I was waiting for the system to release & for my craftroom to be ready for use. As I watched you, I was able to just scratch stuff off and take notes!! Incredible amount of info in a short amount of time!

Another fabulous video. I’ve just bought the better press system and I think I’ll invest those plates as opposed to the glimmer plates since both work. Also, yes! I love when the stamp companies work together. That’s always a win for us crafters.

This was the best video I have seen on the comparisons of the inks and papers. I love your coloring so much! I’m new to your videos and want to see more.
