Love reviews like this - gives me some good ideas. I have Orlik Golden Sliced in a tin aging (probably 6-8 months now). Gonna crack it open and smoke in my Matches 860 Friday Savanelli in memory of Matches...one of my favorite videos is him talking about a childhood story smoking Golden Sliced in the Friday Savanelli 👍
Hi Wilson! My top summer blends, and my summers average 95-110 degrees..., would be Peretti Boston Slices, Sutliff 507c Virginia Slices, GL Pease Union Square, C&D Opening Night, MacBaren HH Pure Virginia, Capstan Blue, and Escudo, for Virginia’s. And loving burley’s, the one that shines for hot weather, is Half & Half. The slight fruity/pastry sweetness, that reminds me a lot of Fig Newton’s, is great for summer! Goes good with a Fresca or Ginger Ale.
Totally agree with Stonehenge Flake! I also love any berry flavored aromatic to add to the summer vibes and a light English at the fire pit. Thanks for the recommendations!
I always have 3 blends in rotation. The perfect summer trifecta for me would be c&d exhausted rooster, mac baren hh old dark fired and orlik golden sliced. But there's so many good ones.
Interesting choices Wilson. I have a few of those, but haven't tried them. Thanks for the tip in John cotton #1. I'm not a seasonal smoker ...I smoke pretty much anything at any time, mostly English or Balkans and the occasional Aro. Enjoy your weekend
Excellent topic and video Wilson. I do enjoy the Golden Sliced more in the warmer months, I also really like Savinelli 140, thanks to a trade I did with you. But if there is one blend for me that I definitely only smoke in the summer months, it is C&D's Gentleman Caller. That grassy, herby, vanilla, deer tongue is perfect for summer. It is also one of the few blends my gf really likes the aroma of. Keep up the good work Wilson, be well.
MacB Golden Extra and Prebyterian. Actually any of the better burleys are good in summer (like Burley Kake or Haunted Bookshop). Also Latakia is named after some hot and sandy geography, so I don't really associate it (or Orientals for that matter) with winter.
Thanks for the recommendations! The only one I've tried so far is Stonehenge Flake, and that"s good stuff! I don't order much online because I'm from Colorado, and there is a tax of 40% (!!!) on any tobacco sent through the mail (to anyone reading this: make sure you know the laws in your state! I have a friend who owed hundreds of dollars in taxes because he didn't know about the 40% tax here! ). My recommendations for nice light summer blends are Rattray's 3 Noggins (says "full", but it's a very light English blend), Samuel Gawith's Golden Glow (Virginia), and Cornell and Deihl's Boker Or ( Hebrew for Morning Light, an excellent aromatic). I look forward to your next video! God bless!
I haven't had the opportunity to try any of those blends except orlick of which i am a fan. I do agree its probably not suited for a new smoker. It has the potential to ruin your day lol
