I’m with you, Jamie, re Codenames and Duet is the best of all the versions. Let me know if you ever want to pay virtually! It’s thinky and one can be so clever.
Codenames is an excellent party game, I also have Codename Disney, which is a huge hit. Also, March 4, we have a game night at our house once a month, which is on that night. How I do anything with that? I don't know. Stream your game-a-thon at our party? Maybe....
I got so excited at the beginning of the announcement as I’m only an hour away from you guys in Halifax and I was like I’M THERE!! I have only played a game online ONCE. Kingdom Builder, I lost soooo badly… I think I will follow suit and invite some people over on that day!
#TeamJeff all the way. What a great video. That is the most I have ever laughed watching the two of you banter. I had to pause the Feast for Odin part because I was laughing so hard and did not want to miss anything, lol. Such a fun time!
1. Blood Rage - neutral, since played only once and need to play more before can form an opinion. 1st game was underwhelmed as rules teach wasn’t great. 😅 2. Codenames - totally on Jeff’s side! Haha, think party games don’t really match me. 😢 3. A Feast for Odin - Jamie is totally wrong here! Jeff described the game so well! I think this has to do partially with Jamie’s distaste with Uwe generally. 😂😂 5. Western Legends - Yet to try but sandbox games doesn’t seem to attract me that much. Vindication was good but seems to finish fast if players wanted to. Waiting to try Forsaken when it arrives. That’s about all I know about sandbox games. 😊
Jeff is correct about Anomia. I do really well at it and still don't like it. The brain slowness is something that applies to Spot It as well. Both games have the annoying logistics of flipping cards fast and people always complain they can't see when you are flipping. My least favourite games.
Lol Jamie okurrr!! So excited about the Game-a-thon! I need to play "Welcome to"...its just sitting there on my shelf desperate for love! ---- I've only played "Codenames: Duet" from your list and I like it! But...on the other hand, I wouldn't be heart broken if we had to get rid of it.🤷♀
A lot of games that I don't like, at least I can appreciate why other people do. That's not the case for A Feast for Odin. I've won 2-3 times out of the 4-5 times I've played it, but I have no idea how or why. The last time I was so far behind the other three players, I gave up and fucked around the last two rounds and won by a landslide. Most games, win or lose, I can see where I made a good or bad move, or why my strategy succeeded or failed, but with Feast it just seems like everyone does a bunch of shit for a very, very long time and then someone wins in the end. If there's any strategy behind it, I fail to see what it is.
I'm definitely in Jeff's corner on these games. While the only one I've played is Western Legends (Jamie, how can you not like it?), I really want to play A Feast for Odin. Like all of the other Uwe games, I'm sure I'll love it (Currently Caverna is my favorite). The only one I'm not sure of is Blood Rage, I think I would like it, but haven't felt the need to buy it with all the other games I still need to get. I'm sure Code Names would be fun once in a while, but I'm not really interested in it. As far as Anomia, I got bored just listening how to play. Great video guys.
I hate games that induce anxiety. Timers, quick reactions. I was so excited when Myst got released a billion years ago. Just wander around an look at stuff. Nobody's chasing you. No earth-explodes-in-5-minutes. It's a personality thing. Totally agree with Jeff. But I do love Codenames Duet. Wife? Not so much.
HUUUUGE Announcement! So excited to tune on the 4th! As someone who joined the AYCB crew for their 24-game-a-thon my best tip would be to drink a lot of water throughout and eat GOOD FOOD. Minimize the junk and you'll CRUISE through it! Looking forward to it :). Also ,I love me some Anomia AND Codenames.... come at me Jeff
Blood Rage is probably my least favorite Lang game. Much prefer Godfather, then probably Rising Sun. Jeff, usually I feel like our tastes align pretty well, and so I always pay close attention to your recommendations, but I was shocked, nay, flabbergasted when you compared Endless winter to Feast for Odin. I am with Jamie on Feast for Odin, I found it over laborious and of little fun. Endless Winter I found aesthetically pleasing and crunchy for all the right reasons :)
our friend just got CodeNames Quebec and so far we like it as one of our openers to game nights: it's quick , simple and just sets the table for bigger more interesting games.. however I wonder how much language (French vs English) makes a difference in this game. For reference, I believe Cards Against Humanity is A LOT funnier than L'Osti d'Jeu (same concept) because the way sentences are built makes it a lot easier to play in english.. cheers from Quebec!
I'm with Jeff 100% on this one! Blood Rage, A Feast For Odin & Western Legends are some of my favourite games anyway, but also Jeff is very logical in his arguments... I think Jamie and my dear wife were probably twins separated at birth, they argue just the same! And it's soooo frustrating! #teamJeff
go niners. FWIW, i didn't like blood rage either and, at best, codenames is just okay. it does bring people to the table that otherwise wouldn't. sorry, march 4th is the Quakes home opener and for some reason i'm excited to watch some really bad footy. anomia sounds like every social interaction i ever have. no thanks. wishing you success on the 4th.
I’m with Jeff on Codenames - for a party game it’s way too quiet and intense! I’m with Jamie on Western Legends - I’m looking forward to Forsaken, Western Legends but good. 😊
Don't like Blood Rage or A Feast for Odin? Boggles my mind... xD Love both. I'm on the strong opinion that it's not that complex of a game, while there's a lot of choices, essentially you have a few obvious choices each turn.
I guess the response depends on who is reading this comment, but I have to agree with Jeff on Anomia. I've only played it twice and the second time was under duress. It just makes me feel stressed when I have to think that fast.
Omg I thought I was the only one with a loathing for all versions of Codenames. I’m with you Jeff, it’s a combo of my brain not working that way and usually some dingus in the group who loudly disagrees with your clue giving 🙄 I absolutely hate that game
I cannot stand Anomia!! I played it once and it was so loud and chaotic that it wasn’t fun at all. It just got louder and louder with people screaming over each other. Never again.
Codenames Duet is our most played game! I can see where you end up with a bunch of unrelated words and can only knock off one at a time. I have Feast for Odin, but haven't opened it yet. Intimidating!
Ya'll are hilarious. I was also back and forth on who i agreed with, and have strong opinions too lol. 1) Blood Rage is one of the most FUN dudes on a map games and converts many. its beloved for a reason. And the Norse theme is good, Heimdall and Loki are household names now. If you like fighty and card drafting...srsly Jamie, why don't you like this??? no, really, if you dont like conflict, Id get it. But...srsly, wtf? Being contrary or really dont like it? ps: only you guys and tom vasel like Rising Sun more than this! its interesting but eh....Rising Sun is my least favorite of his cmon trilogy (and I want to play Ankh more in 2023) 2) I agree Feast of Odin is too much and the epitome of point salad BS i'm so over. I've played it once, just because it has dwarf and beer pasted on it vs dour mediterranean traders, it still feels like rando abstract mini game BS that keeps me from being immersed. and feeding your people is a pretty buzzkill mechanic if too harsh, not my favorite mechanism. I started when Agricola was all the rage, and it was TOO tight for me ugh, but i get its appeal. Caverna and Feast of Odin are too loose and big for my preference in contrast? Jaime, you say you like Uwe, but you dislike the games I have tried too and I had thought were synonymous with him. What will I like if i'm just hard out on Feast of Odin? ps: In terra mystica, the abstract purple bead action point stuff making zero sense and feeling like random gamified bs made me totally never want to play again too for same reason Feast was a dud for me, if that makes sense? 3) codenames is fine. its great to get people interested in games, but Ive played it so ,much now I'm pretty done with it too, though willing to play with right group. I'm trying new party games over this myself now, and some folks freeze up or it misfires, yet its still a "party" game. any party game i don't hate is great, it was a great SdJ winner and good for hobby. and lets choose something else, though not without as big a frown as Jeff. But its better than cards against humanity, and im great with folks that liked that firing it for this for sure! admission: i have so clover on its way to me solely from hearing yall mention it a few times...
Regarding codenames. Have you played Decrypto? Many people who have the same problems Jeff has with codenames enjoy that one a bit more. @Jamie, there is Codenames Harry Potter which is like Codenames Duet, I think you will love it! Maybe you can catch @Jeff with the theme here
I’m going to have to go with Jamie, only because of the bills. Going to have to get you some pats gear. But I’m with you both for anomia, we always have fun playing it, but my brain doesn’t work that way either and I’ve never come close to winning.
It just sounds like the theme of the game is one of the things that affects Jamie’s enjoyment of the game. Same with everyone, just to different degrees. For example, even though both games Pret A Porter and Obsession are mechanically designed extremely well, I have absolutely no desire to play them based on theme. With approximately 150k of games catalogued on BGG, I think there should be no reason people can not find several games in common they can enjoy playing together without feeling tortured doing so. So Jeff should not be forced to play Codenames ever again (I agree. I’m no a fan of party games). Makes for a fun video discussion though.
I don't like it when mommy and daddy fight. :P Codenames peasants, LOL. They are bystanders. Jamie must be too posh. :) If Jamie just wants to pick up and deliver cows, she may like Great Western Trail.
I like Codenames but it is def not my favorite word party game any more. My problem is just that one team takes the lead and in the games I’ve played the other team has a very hard time coming back. Fun little puzzle though.
Yeah I was honestly a bit underwhelmed by Western Legends. If I'm going for a western themed game Colt Express is my game of choice. It's tons of fun, check it out!
Always love the banter. Life's too short and there are too many games to "force" yourself to repeatedly play a game you dislike. I say twice at most and three times, if for review.
I’m with Jamie on Blood rage. It’s one I thought I would like but after many plays it just doesn’t work for me. Both my wife and I dislike the game a lot.
The first time I saw the blood rage box, I thought the viking was a giant ant. No idea why my brain saw that, but now I can't unsee it and it makes it hard for me to want to play this game 🤣 no logic to this, just my weird brain
What!??!? I almost stopped watching at game 1. Blood Rage is the best game! Ahwell to each their own. :) That is why the boardgame hobby is so great, there is something for everyone.
I dislike Blood Rage and it is right in my wheelhouse for the kind of games I like. I never felt so bored playing a game before. It lacked excitement like others in the genre have. Maybe it’s the drafting that took some of the excitement? The game just did not work for me at all.
You two argue about games the same way my husband and I do. Me: There's just too much! It's overwhelming! Him: THAT'S THE FUN PART. Later, different... Me: I LOVE THIS GAME THERE IS SO MUCH TO DO AND THE PUZZLE IS AMAZING. Him: And yet, you S on FFO...
