I really like Levy using the expression "participating in the game" when talking about pieces, it helps me to think in such a way in my games as well, I like that expression a lot more than "piece activity". When deciding about whether to make this or that pawn break, whether to open or close the position, whether to launch an attack or not, how I will be able to defend, with which pawn to recapture and when maneuvring the pieces I like to think about which pieces will participate in the game as a result of my move, or I come up with plans that would lead to more of my pieces participating in the game while trying to make the least amount of my opponent's pieces participating in the game. The expression "participating in the game" also makes you question whether a piece which looks good is actually doing anything or is it just hanging in the void.

Part of me feels this should be a series in and out of itself. Seeing that many brilliant moves in one game is crazy! It would be a rarity though as the chances of playing that many brilliant moves in one game is very unlikely especially at lower level. Though higher level has a better chance but still very rare.

18:28 "To get five brilliant moves your opponent needs to do some really disastrous stuff"... actually, I think the opponent needs to play fairly well, otherwise the first brilliant move will lead to mate or at least totally winning position, and the next four will never happen. Heck, when I do 'disastrous stuff' there's no brilliant move needed to mate me, just take the queen I just hung and go from there :)

Every 10 seconds of "He moved here", we have 2 minutes of "and if he move here or here".

"this is already a very high level" - me being 1950 and heavily doubting it after blundering a rook in one move last game.

I once got two back to back but I was so pissed off the guy hadn't resigned yet that I didn't realize it till after I won

"Five!!" Wow, what a game! Props to Lucas and Luis for the submission. Once in a blue moon - instead of hanging my queen - I have a game where I see super clearly and win with a brilliant move. But five in one game - never seen anything like it. Great episode!!

"I got a brilliant move" My first game analysis that showed one was pretty recent, but I was not able to fully pull off stockfish's idea so I just ended up losing a knight then winning back their knight and control of the center. I also don't know if any of my other games had a brilliant move because one review per day.

No is talking about how much the guy with defended, he or she played really good moves against brilliant moves and resisted taking pieces which is not easy at 1500

I just got three tonight. That’s the most I had. Sometimes you just don’t expect those brilliant move and it feels very satisfying especially when you checkmate on a brilliant move.

idk what to be surprised at the fact that he played 5 brilliant moves or that he played them one after another

yeah I also think black got slightly lucky with Bxd5 and b3 in the sense that I don't think black would have played Qc7 before the knight check and in the latter, after all the combo is done, the fact that Qxh1 comes with check was obviously coincidental and not foreseen while playing b3, but nonetheless, gr8 attack by black.

I gave two types of brilliant moves: when a Leroy Jenkins move accidentally isn't Leroy at all and "after this opening analysis/review told me what I should have played so many times that I've finally remembered". I'll start telling friends when I get one for something that I've actually calculated. 😅
