5 Builds for New Players in Mordhau 2023 Edition + Spear Gameplay 

Nice vid! I like the "estoc" sword. In regular mode it has a little less stab damage than Evening Star in alt mode but but it has good attack speed and excellent 120cm reach! It's also really good combined with horses.

I heard that dodge is good with the longest weapons like the spear because for those weapons it actually can make a difference. Is that true?

I'm not good by any means, but running spear+dodge build allowed me to have some cheeky kills where an enemy attacks me such that they would hit me with the edge of their swing, and I dodge backwards, completely evading the attack and then immediately stab them while they're recovering from the miss.

@@hannayapelekai1628 if your opponent has a good footwork, dodge is pretty useless since he can catch up with you anyways and you'll have to block regardless, so it's a waste of stamina. In dueling it's completely useless but it can kinda work in frontline since it's a chaos anyway. Still pretty bad perk overall

Cleaver is way better than dagger. It’s not even worth it. You’ll be doing single digit damage against heavily armored enemies

if you riposte they cannot hit you faster you can also try to get distance between you and them mostly if you got a long weapon if they stay just under your nose you can kick them

try duel some people on servers, you can learn more about the combat and try new things like drags etc, it helps a lot

Kicking is a good way to put some distance between you and them. If you have a slower weapon, it's probably also longer. Not always, but usually. Learning footwork is important- know the reach of your weapon and always stay on the edge of it, if someone has a lesser reach they'll miss more. Keep in mind heavier armor will make you slower, so even if you start off with more reach, they can quickly close the gap with they have lighter armor. Or, just sprint at you even. Which means you want to be aggressive in your retreat. Heavier weapons tend to do more stamina damage too, so let them parry you constantly while you try to avoid parrying as much. They'll probably run out of stamina first, or back away (and if they back away, press your advantage, don't let them recover). They they run out of stamina, they drop their weapon. Learn to accel. You can actually twist your camera in the direction that you're swinging in to "swing faster". This is accelling. You can do the opposite, looking in the direction opposite of your swing, to slow your attack down to try to bait them to parry too soon. Against someone who doesn't accel well, even a slow weapon can outpace some of the faster ones if you accel right. Dragging to bait out a panic parry will also let you get a hit on them. I believe there's a half second or 3/4ths second delay between when you miss a parry and can attack again. Morphing can be a more reliable way to bait a parry, but it only works on people who actually do panic parry. Morphing is when you start a stab and then immediately start a swing before the stab comes out. This will start a stab animation, but then switch to a swing animation instead. Its slower than dragging, which means its easier to defend against, and costs a lot more stamina to do. But its a great thing to do against someone who panic parries a lot. Lastly, chambering. Chambering is when you start an attack that mirror the enemies attack right before it hits you. It'll stop their attack, but your attack will keep going (as opposed to a clash, which is when your weapon physically hits theirs, regardless of attack direction, and both weapons stop their attack). Chambers are hard to master, and it can be even harder to pull off against someone with a quick weapon, especially with a slower weapon, but there is no real counter to chambers other than footwork. I recommend keeping a smaller, faster weapon on all your builds to deal with the messers, axes, scims, and other obnoxiously fast weapons. I also recommend joining Tom's discord. There are a lot of cool people in that server who know a lot more than I do, and a lot of them are willing to join small servers with new players to give them one on one advice

Depends on the map and player count.

You have to learn what a feint looks like and what a full swing looks like. It's hard and takes a lot of practice, I'm still not great at it and I've been casually playing for years.

You can shoot the longbow as fast as you can click and draw the next arrow, so I’m not sure exactly what you tested lol

@@EpicBrew How fast you can draw each arrow. There's a limit to how fast you can do it obviously, and even firing as soon as you've drawn back the minimum amount and immediately reloading you'll still have a couple arrows left by the time supplies refresh. Even if you could, you obviously shouldn't be firing that fast anyway. Haven't checked for the Crossbow or Recurve Bow but it's probably the same there. Supplied seems far more useful for throwables like javelins or firebombs, which you will actually run out of often.

@@ghidorah4695 It's 100% better to have the supply crate accessible than having to wait for it to reset even if that only happens a few times a match. Without arrows your bow is useless.

Spawn beacons and happy meals can get you top 3 on the board with negative K/D.

I know nothing about Mordhau so a video like this was perfect for me since i was 100% blind.

@@EpicBrew bud, I understand you like the game and spent a lot of time practicing and such but when every weapon on average is a 3 shot or in the case of mauls a 1-2 shot. If you're in FULL heavy plate, congrats you can survive a fourth hit from most weapons. Tell me again how 33 damage is REALLY different IN effect from 40 damage when ultimately 3 hits from both will kill you.

The Zweihander for new players isn’t ideal because they’re already going to be hitting teammates/the environment a lot and the Zwei just amplifies those odds. Longsword is the better starter sword imo. And the maul doesn’t one-shot everyone - it won’t one-shot you if you use the tank perk. So that’s the easiest solution to avoiding one-shots to the head.

Toxicity is def a problem in this game for different reasons, but encouraging new players to try different things isn’t one of them.

There’s nothing I can show that will let you magically be able to counter those players. You just have to play the game and build up the reaction speed and muscle memory.

@@hannayapelekai1628 a more forgiving build is 3/3/2 eveningstar and bloodlust, just main that weapon and get good at the basics, then move on to accel and dragging but it is a grind

​@@z_ocko7225 so far the builds that work for me in specifically frontline/invasion are: 1) archer, either regular longbow build, or a naked maul archer goblin (tho I'm not good enough with a maul yet to defend myself very well) 2) spear, 2 2 0 with javelins, bandage and supplied. Can swap supplied and bandage for a better armor but it's whatever. Javelins are a huge dopamine generator for me, I try to shove them into my build whenever I can. 3) engineer; nothing except the ammo box matters much, but I like to take mule so I can pick up a good weapon even if I have ammo box hammer and bear trap / bomb (also lets me have better armor instead of getting a hammer that also works as a proper weapon). It's pretty good at protecting the objective and generating points (which translate into gold I believe). Melee combat is tough no matter what, especially direct confrontations as opposed to ratting and group fights. Idk if the weapon matters. I'll try the eveningstar tho, haven't used it much. Ever since it got hard-nerfed it hasn't really been useful for the 6 points it costs. It's better to take 1 or 2 bandages and use the rest of the points for armor or a better weapon

It's not recommended for most builds, but still surprisingly decent if you frequently fight 1v1's where you wouldn't really have enough time to regen to full before your next fight, especially if you take the Tank perk. Of course, Bandages are just so much more efficient it's a wonder why Bloodlust hasn't gotten a small buff, like increasing the regen speed or increasing the amount of health you get back per kill from 25 to 35 or _something._
