Great tips, thank you. My brother is getting married in a few weeks and he has asked me if I would get some video of the day. I will start practicing. At the mo I have a camera and gimbal but no monopod. So might purchase before the day.

Thanks Chris!!! Yep, a monopod with locking legs is good if you have a pretty light/balanced load close to the ground or get a 3 leg portable tripod with a larger load for those times where you want to be able to go quickly on/off the tripod. You can even put a quick release plate on the bottom of the gimbal with a full tripod and head for quick attachment

Hey Rick! Awesome, thanks! I pretty much never plan on youtube lives unfortunately lol. It's pretty much when I'm in the office with a couple hrs to spare and don't have an edit to finish which obviously doesn't happen too much. I'd love some feedback on if you guys like the live and if so, what you would like to see from it other than a Q&A

Great video but what's with the Nikon? What camera do you really use the Sony or the Nikon? And if the Nikon then why. I would like to know how you set up your camera on the gimbal as far as exposure, manual or auto and the same with focus. The night shot with the fireworks was really nice , how was the camera setup for that shot. Really great work, love watching your videos. Thanks

I've actually been shooting on Nikon for the last couple months a ton. In fact, pretty much all my recent youtube videos were shot on the Z6 or Z7 including this which was the Z7. I'm really loving them for video right now because of the flat picture profile and AF is awesome for video (less so for photos). It also has my favorite ergonomics of any mirrorless camera other than no flip screen which I also don't get on the Sony. For gimbals I shoot manual exposure although I will use autofocus assuming I have a camera with good AF. For the fireworks I was manual focus and manual exposure since the camera was drifting focus since it was so dark. Appreciate that!!!

Right now I prefer shooting with the Z6 for video and they have some planned updates to make it even better. But it isn't really massively better so be sure to factor in lenses, cards, and other things like that. However the Z6 is on a crazy awesome sale right now: bhpho.to/2KcXqFC

Very informative video, do you customize your gimble setting? or do you slow down your gimble footage, if so how much do you slow it down for

So I do usually slow down the gimbal settings and make them slower moves since I'm mostly shooting weddings. I do also shoot quite a bit of slow motion on gimbals especially whenever dealing with people who are not actors and a few other settings so I will shoot at 60p and slow it down in software if I want to. But that has to do more with the final look of the video or what I'm shooting than the gimbal itself

Thanks! I personally like the Moza Air 2 and Aircross 2 best but FeiyuTech also has the AK4500 which is amazing except I found the acceleration was tuned a little high for super gentle moves

Hey Dan!! Thank you for all the GREAT CONTENT! I personally love using the monopod with my Crane 2. I currently shoot weddings with the Panasonic GH5S and also own the Z6. I love the Z6 but haven't not worked myself up enough to try to use it instead of the GH5S. What are your thoughts? Thank you for everything?

Awesome! Thanks. I'm actually loving the Z6 for video and my last few videos have all been filmed on it. The big benefit is that I find autofocus to be absolutely usable on the Z6 and not so on the GH5s. Plus you get IBIS so there are definitely situations I would use it over the GH5s

Wait, who says AF doesn't work with external monitors? I use the Atomos Shinobi all the time and AF is on

Dan Watson I stand corrected. For whatever reason, it was not auto focusing in my user preference 3. Full auto was on, but it wasn’t focusing unless I hit the back button focus. When I moved it to manual and started from scratch it focused. Thanks again for the response.

There are less expensive gimbals, buy one used, or rent. Also if you are doing wedding videography, gear is important and $1000 for equipment you can own for years should be fine given this is for your business and paid shoots

@@learningcameras THANK YOU! -- I have good fast lenses, and that's more important you buy new... I feel. I got my Canon 5D mark 3 used and it still works great. I will look for a used one. I saw a video saying DJI Ronin S is better, do you agree?

I wouldn't say better...just different. There is a major difference in ergonomics (things I like/dislike about both) and I prefer the app on the Ronin. My only issue with the Ronin is the lack of a display means EVERYTHING needs to be done in the app. I'm also a fan of the Moza Air 2 as an alternative to the Ronin. It is very similar but also has a display. I use the Air 2 all the time and have a review on it too

Yep, with the A7s, I would manual focus as well. I used to use the GH5 and couldn't use AF on that either

It's been pretty good for me lately. Also, I'm behind the camera for this so I can see if there is ever an issue. But most of my recent RU-vid videos were shot on the Z6 with full autofocus

I can’t see why some say you shouldn’t use a gimbal at a wedding. If you’re doing videography, you should absolutely use a gimbal.

With Sony's A7SIII I definitely do as 8bit doesn't hold up really well. Also when shooting LOG, definitely 10bit whenever possible

Most of the shots in the intro were from the GH5 and a few A7III files. Now I'm actually using the Z6 the most with the Sony as a backup option. The video itself was shot on the Nikon Z7 as the main cam (unfortunately I had Face AF turned off so it prioritized the camera and not my face but I blame me for that) and the Canon EOS R as cam B.

Usually autofocus unless I have a camera without good autofocus like the GH5. But most cameras I'm using now have good enough autofocus

whats the deal with your turorial showing people video...but the video is not in focus. almost all of the time its on the gimbal. why didnt you do eye or face detect? also that side talking footage...just looks weird.

This footage was shot over 4 years ago before face and eye AF worked well with video. A bunch was also shot on the gh5 which didn't focus well. We are spoiled lol

I hate sony but not many good choices. z6iii hasnt come. no one takes you seriously when you say you shoot wedding video with nikon. they all laugh

I love Nikon’s Flat profile...I'm just hoping they can put out stuff that actually beats out Canon and Sony to get back in the game
