@@marig9236 Guess accessorizing could change the vibe and avoid making it look too edgy or gothicy, maybe more feminine details, gold accessories, formal looks, .. etc.
Lovely video! I really appreciate the way you show how to make the colour combinations work for those who just love them, rather than just sneering at them and making their fans feel small. I didn't think I liked any of these combinations either until I saw your alternate suggestions. You've proven yet again that putting some thought and planning into your outfits is always going to pay off... as is kindness. Classy indeed.
I think that it's very hard to wear two colors together when they are the same intensity. Also, it seems to work better if one of the colors is on a smaller garment - rather than basically dividing yourself in half with the two colors.
I would love to see a video specifically for women with a winter color palette. We do not look good in camel and beige . A video on the best classic neutrals would be wonderful.
Thank you Gemma, whilst i am not a fan of bright colours on me - I only tend to wear them on accessories to brighten up my looks which are mostly a combination of neutrals- I do like seeing them on others, and very much enjoyed watching this video as well as your great tips to combine them with style and without looking like a flag or an 80’s caricature.
Very interesting video, had to laugh about Ronald McDonald and need to agree :D However, hot pink and lime green (or any shades of pink and green) symbolise the preppy style for me, that I love, especially in the spring. Writing this, I'm wearing my hot pink waistcoat and a lime green Ralph Lauren Argyle sweater :) I experienced that our opinion on colour combinations tends to change over time, as a child I would have detested the combination pink/green. I'm really fond of your videos, please keep up the good work (and the nice relaxing style of your content!) Greetings from Germany! Anna
I love pink and green combination, yes, such combo is abundant in nature but surprisingly rare among animals and I rarely see women wear it. And to make things more interesting, I wear pink bottoms and green tops as well. But one must make sure both colors match their skin tone.
I’m always so excited to see you’ve put up a new video. I really appreciate how much time and research you do on the outfits. Anything with Princess Kate is a big YES from me….and I’m a 67 year old American. 😊 Thank you again for putting colors together to give me new ideas. I screenshot them and keep them in a folder on my phone. When I go to get dressed, I have your suggestions right there! I now wear soft pink with navy, which I had never done before. ❤
I love your colour combination videos. I started wearing navy with burgundy after watching a previous video and I love it. The funny thing is, I already had a bag in navy, burgundy and dark tan. When I bought it that I didn't quite know why I liked it, but I do now!
I... agree that certain color combinations can remind one of well known brands, holidays or a county's flag, which is something I'd also avoid. But as for the bold color combinations it all depends on one's features. As a soft summer myslef, I personally steer clear of any bright colors. But my two bright spring friends would look dull and tired in what I am wearing and they are instead choosing some of the color combinations discouraged here and they are totally rocking it :D
Love this video yellow and blue is a new idea to me.abd the dusky pink with green is beautiful. Great ideas here to make colour s work well together thank you Gemna
Great video Gemma. I like orange with camel and dark olive with burgundy. Discovered these combinations by just playing with my sweaters and skirts/pants. Happy coincidences. ❤😊
🎉Love Brights. Just not on myself🤣. Actually wore an orange 🍊 t-shirt w/tan khaki cargo pants to a fund raising event at a remote cabin🏡. It had some kind of 🧡orange theme.😊 It was the first time I wore the tee I had bought many ages ago, & I rarely wore the trousers, but I liked the combo👍. Could see wearing 🟠 w/navy too. 🍷 Burgandy pairings. Like the idea of pairing it w/dark olive or navy. Both are in my palette👌. 🪖Gemma even mentioned a pop of red❤ w/olive green. Like that option for when feeling sassy. 💚Bridget from Cali☘️ (using my pal's YT acct)
**WARNING!** To all the ladies that may be introverts or simply _don't_ like talking to strangers in public... wearing bold bright colours _draws lots of attention to you!_ You might just find that _several_ random strangers come up & talk to you _completely_ out of the blue. Just wanted to give you a heads up. This _always_ happens whenever I'm wear my bright orange pants with a dark navy sweater. I've tested this out 12 different times in the same place... yeah science? 😂😂😂
You have bright orange pants? Pants cannot be any bright color otherwise for sure you will be noticed. Pants cannot be a bold print either. I might have to have a lie down after thinking about that....
@@americafirst9144 Blue and green is so "ocean like." I think it's not too dramatic if the shades are subtle, but I guess you could go bright with that.
Thanks for the tips! 👍❤️ I like to experiment with colors as long as they look well put together and elegant, I tried with a teal dress and dark red accents (belt and shoes) and i was delighted that it worked!
This was great! Nice to see other options that are less jarring with certain colors. Have you ever done a video that addressed Color Analysis and your take on the subject? Perhaps a video showing how to dress with colors you may love that are technically not supposed to look good on you… for instance if you are cool or warm, or have greying hair or other specific hair colors…?
Yellow and purple together makes you look like a passionfruit. I agree pink and green works really well as a print but I would not wear them in a colour block way. About ten years ago chocolate brown was in fashion for winter clothes, but paired with dark green. So women everywhere were wearing brown trousers teamed with plain green sweaters and shirts. It dawned on me that it made people look like walking trees. It became a contest for my daughter and I, to see who was the first to spot a "tree outfit" when out and about.
Another combination that I feel too costumey in is Red & white as it just reads too Valentines Day for me. I also feel a bit like Santa Claus when i wear black pants with a red top, which I know is ridiculous and I actually love the combination, but I always end up changing my outfit when i try it on. Too bad. Great video, Gemma! Much love from South Africa ❤
Red and black need a pop of white to make them stunning. Say, a white hat and shoes, or handbag, etc. It's a combo that speaks of strength and confidence.
@@ThePlataf i usually wear a black & white base & then use red as accessories like red pumps and a red scarf. But I've never used white as the pop of colour. I'm intrigued thank you I would love to give that a try ☺️🌺
@@musingsofamuslimah2018 It's a combo used by the Japanese maiko (apprentice geisha). White faces, red lips and black hair..,you just can't your eyes off them. Try it, and play around with what looks good. Like, black trousers, red jacket and a white corsage. Honestly, it looks amazing. I'd love to hear from you about your experiments success.
Great video. It is inportant to understand that we are not on magazine covers or are IG big influencers. In daily life we do not have to imitate things that do not work well
These colour combining videos are so instructive. I love them and have bookmarked them all. Just one note: Purple and yellow reminds me of Easter eggs and bunnies. So that combo is a hard no for me. Thanks!
Loved this concept Gemma ❤❤ I love orange. It’s one of my summer go to colours. And green, well I always get compliments with most shades of the blue green family. Both of these look amazing with all my navy neutrals. I’d love to see a video on yellow. LOVE IT! Anything from buttercup to mustard. Have an amazing week Gemma.
Excellent video for ideas of how to classily color combine from one’s own closet. There are some lovely pairings that i would never have thought of… definite wardrobe extenders! 👍🏻
Orange is great with aqua and royal blue, or switch out the blue for shades of grey. It can work really well with raspberry, or you can do orange, Prussian blue and navy with little red accents. Hot pink with yellow is gorgeous, and navy or deep rich burgundy (eg in an overcoat) can make it look incredible. Tbh I think sticking to safe colour combinations can often look cheap and dated. If you’re comfortable in brights I think experimenting a little, but making sure materials are premium, looks far more modern and skilful. Often these colour duos (like yellow & purple) need a third colour (an actual colour, not black or white!) to help anchor them, even if it’s actually the muted shade that is the minor accent; olive green is a good option with a hot saffron/mustard yellow and a rich purple.
Great video 😊 as always. Out of all the fashion content i follow on you tube, your videos always give me the more outfit inspiration i can do with what i already have in my wardrobe ❤. Regards from 🇲🇽
Thank you for helping us again with your stunning expertise! I do like your style in any way, including your sophisticated way of speaking and presenting; how is your beautiful little black Miss Amazing?
This was excellent, Gemma. I admit at first when I saw the title, I thought, not sure I'm going to agree with this video. However, I did 100% and absolutely loved the alternatives you showed. Many thanks 🩷🧡💚💙💛💜🩵❤🖤🩶🤎🤍
I put orange with a plum purple, but it’s muted plum and it looks gorgeous I think! Of course, this is a very relaxed outfit with a tank top from free people that is purple plum color but again it’s muted and a linen orange button up top from rails.
I like bold colors and can wear them but I'm not crazy about the color blocking match ups. I just bought a mustard linen dress made in Italy and very stylish. I had bought a beautiful large scarf when I was in Italy a couple of months ago. It is basically orange with a print of lemons in yellows and greens. The dress is sleeveless but because I'm a church goer not in the US, I need to cover a bit so the combination will work perfectly.
"All colours are beautiful and look good together, because - if, for some reason, two seem to jar when placed next to each other - all one needs to do is to add a third and harmony is created."(Roberta di Camerino, Italian Designer)
Bright pink and green are the colors of the AKA, Alpha Kappa Alpha, sorority. The oldest African American sorority in America. I don’t wear that shade of pink and green because I’m not a AKA but my girlfriends do and they look amazing.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the nearly 350K members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (including the VP of the United States) would disagree about the pink & green part. They seem to continually pull of wearing pink, green, & pearls.
I think this is a matter of opinion. I actually look great in all these combinations that you stated “ don’t look good together” it depends how you style it 😊
I loved this video! I like the yellow and purple combination, I also saw a few combinations that would look good in pastels but it also made me think of Easter 😅. I love orange combined with brown and maybe yellow but it’s giving more of a 60’s look. I adore it especially with a knitted turtleneck sweater. I played a lot with these color combinations in the past just to see people’s reactions 😂 like the black and yellow. Thank you I’m going to play more with the reds next time because it’s a pretty fiery feminine color drawing in a lot of attention ❤
Another great interesting video !👍 Thank you. May I suggest Lilac color combinations for another video? This a color very trendy at the Moment. Take care !😊
I have a lilac flowered dress that I altered to be a skirt and a top and I pair it with a lime colored bag/purse and white shoes/slippers (depending on the weather)!
My reaction: Green and red - Belarus, blue and yellow - Sweden, green and orange - Ireland 😂 Great video though and I love the suggested combinations! Especially the ones with red and orange
I thought of flags, too. I have a theory that flag colors are bold to draw attention on the battlefield. Not the look I’m going for! I once told my daughter she could have the t-shirt she wanted if she could tell me which nation’s flag it reminded me of. It was worth the $5.97 to have her know the answer was Vatican City.
I hear red and pink might be weird, green on top and orange bottom looks like carrot. Green and yellow may look like corn and peas. It also depends on what shades of these xolora you are pairing.
I definitely thought about certain schools with purple and yellow tiger mascots. I went to a college that was literally across a ravine from a school that had a purple and yellow tiger mascot. Their mascot looks almost identical to the LSU mascot.
I was wearing red and black, and I got the comment "Anarchism!", and then a question if I watched some theater piece related to the theme. Lol. To tell you the truth, in my country mostly would think in football teams with those colours.
Purple and Yellow make a person look like a Los Angeles Lakers Fan, and if that's what you want, great! However, I wouldn't want that look. I have worn grey lilac and yellow and its worked for me.
