@@uwekonnigsstaddt524 even win11 reserves letters A and B for disk drives. i wonder how you attach one nowadays, as modern mainboards do no provide the connectors anymore
It's surprisingly refreshing when someone reminds me of some misc computer knowledge that was forgotten in the heaps of info from years and years of experience; thank you for that. I made bat files for all of these to make things easier, and I'll probably include them in the scheduler at a later date.
@@LironSegev Maybe you can do a video to explain the bat files and how to include them in the scheduler like ""WARCRIMES" mentioned for those of us that are not as computer literate. I - personally - would greatly appreciate it.
Whoa BAT files, now THAT takes me back, not sure why I didn't think of making a bat file instead of trying to remember all these commands at a moments notice lol
Thank you Liron. I echo previous comments (have used sfc; dism; etc for years - not often enough!!). For me, WINGET TOOL was a revalation. I would never have known it was there. It immediately updated dozens of apps and utilities. I have just subscribed!!
I followed this to the letter, well almost, couple of typos but no real issues, on 2 old desktops that are older than 10 years and a Gigabyte laptop from 2011. Had a lot of fun with this one. Thank you Liron
Excellent, I think I'm not going through your back catalogue to run these updates. Brilliant. Really like the way you've made these videos because there so simple to follow and the language is beginner friendly so it makes sense. Have to say doing the Winget tool, when that was doing its thing, I was worried but it worked! i'm delighted. Thanks
Good review if your computer can boot. How about some advice on how to handle a Windows boot failure? Over the years Windows recovery efforts usually cannot repair the issue and I resort to my last backup. Love your channel!
thanks again for more useful information.... could not get the memory scan to work but the rest sure did... speaking of.... the last thing you said to try.. the winget thing really hit pay dirt for me!!! i was able to get updates to things i didnt know i had but the O.S. still is using to operate. thanks for all THE FREE info, you have saved me LOTS of money.. i owe you more than i can pay...
0:53 I’m currently doing the memory check. I’m 54% into it and it’s taking almost an hour so far just for this test. This test alone would’ve killed the one hour time limit. As usual, great video, though!
Great video as always, but I do have a few questions for you regarding Winget. 1. Is it 100% safe or am I vulnerable? 2. Should I agree to the source agreement terms yes/no? 3. How do I know that it will provide me with the latest updates? 4. Does any of the updates have telemetry enabled, as these are user-hostile defaults you don't want?
I simply install a computer program called Deep Freeze standard. It prevents all changes to my C drive and after almost 10 years my computer works like brand new it never needs repair. I showed this software to a repairman and he told me that if his customers installed this software he would be immediately out of business.
I use ssd for the OS and hard drive for media and games. Though for games that load things from the disk a lot (like texture loading) I'd put it in the ssd Ssd on the OS makes the OS faster it seems.
I also go into safe mode and get rid of the swap file, then run a defrag. Once that is done, reallocate a swap file once again. Windoze swap file uses standard file allocation methods which could lead to the swap file being placed all over the disk, thus causing performance issues. Placing the swap file on another disk would be best. Of course I have not used windoze for decades, instead I use a much more reliable & solid o/s.
you are very effective at explaining these precisely and effeciently. Very helpful for reviewing things i may have forgotten throughout the years. Great job and thanks.
You should always run DISM before SFC. DISM repairs the component store that SFC uses to repair the system files, so doing it in the opposite order doesn't make sense.
You Sir, are simply brillant. Thankyou. I have one question l cannot find your video on resetting WiFi every day (a small program) that we have to write following your instructions. Thankyou once again.
Using the Altair 8800 running Altair BASIC is all you really need and the very best way to surf the internet. "Once you go full Altair, you never go back." ---Albert Einstein
With SFC and DISM it is not easy in business enviroment if you do not know the exact build of win 10 or 11. Even if you do, finding installation media for particular enterprise edition is near impossible. But yes, if you have a home or professional edition and you have that particular build installation media, then these commands are great.
If you run windows 8.1 and do the command prompt and it tells you you need to be in elevated mode. Go to the start, screen, type in command prompt then hold control+shift +enter at the same time a dialog box will pop up click yes and then do what you need to do in command prompt.
Oh it seems like iolo has become better over the years, i had it back in the day, but that is a really cool feature they have put in their program 😎 - Stay Blessed - 🙏❤✌
How about the WIndows built-in "cipher /w:c:\" command which is similar to your sponsor's tool to wipe the empty space on the HD after files have been deleted?
This is very helpful. It is so fascinating that Windows hides all of this stuff (all of these should be readily accessible for a novice to run with basically 1 click).
Liron - with all the wireless connections these days, is it enough to LOCK Windows 10 PC or Laptop to prevent someone from stealing files stored in PC or Laptop ?
AS a matter of interest what was the actual problem with the laptop? You could also use DISKPART to scrub the disk using the clean option. Fairly easy to follow.
loads of corruptions. If I had more time with it, I would have made an image backup on an external drive, and repartitioned it after a fresh format and then restored the image.

Winget is amazing. I canceled my first run when it appeared to get hung up on the download for 7-zip. So I go to the site. Turns out it sends out the bytes by the kilobyte, and it takes a while to download the 1.5MB. I restart winget and it gets the rest of the list (except for chrome's update; no worries, I'll do it myself). I liked its download of belarc. No supplying another email address to them.
Checking takes ages. ckdsk /f is slow, but laptop is old too. Some advice from tech peeps: this laptop sometimes beeps at the start of booting. I have to hard reset it via the on/off switch. What could cause it? Also since the keyboard of it does not work and I need an usb keyboard, I notice that often automaticakly either the Enter us triggered or the search for the number 4. So shutting down is tricky. I also see sometines that when going to shut down the sleep option is selected and is shaking a bit. What could cause these issues? Is this device in need of a replacement?
8:40 I have seen this in another video, but completely forgot about it. Long overdue for Windows to have something similar to Linux _Pacman_ or _Pamac._
Funny, I cannot get memsched to run in Win10 on either the run command or from power shell. You show the window to either restart now or after the next reboot. The screen you show never comes up. Just gives a web search on how to get help on how to run it. What am I doing wrong?
Why the Winget tool keeps updating the same softwares each time I run it? It keeps downloading the same version of some apps (e.g. Discord desktop and AIDA64). Besides that, it's not detecting the updates that are in fact available, even if I use the command 'Winget upgrade --all --include-unkown'. Could someone help?
