Great advice, I too have a small home and area but I want to make it the “ OUTSIDE THEATER OF NATURE” so thank you for this great advice, happy planting! ❤
I don’t like those weird spiky and thin plants that look like a bunch of sprouts. HOWEVER, that being said: 1) Apparently I need one of those fiber optic spiky sprout plants. 2) I need a head planter Once again u hav changed my mind on something. 🤔🥳😎
so happy to hear this....we live on the wetlands & I just purchased some creeping jenny. looking forward to planting it and watching it thrive....nice presentation
Wow pond plants, love the Golden Creeping Jenny and the Fiberoptic Grass. Never seen the Yellow Flag before, going to have a good look around the garden centres this weekend. So excited about the next video 🤓
Marginals! Those are all great choices. I have Equisetum hyemale and Carex 'Bowles Golden' growing in my pond out back. The carex goes dormant but the horsetail stays mostly green.
To dress the side of your pond, have you tried the perennial geranium that they sell at Lowe's for rock gardens? Zone 4 up to or minus 30 below. Nice pink flowers. Check it out if you have a Lowe's next to you. Small. Forgot the name.
I envy you - you live where you can have a garden. Here I am lucky if native cactus don't die, lol. Miss having a garden. Can't wait to see your plants in a pond setting - bet it will look awesome!
Yes!! Joanna, can you make a video on where to find cute containers for tub ponds? I’m really struggling finding attractive containers in the 20-50 gallon range. Thank you!!
Woo! Hoo!! Now we're talking. I love my pond. Just put in last year. Creeping Jenny is my favorite plant. I have it in floating containers, around the edge, in my bog filter, and in some of my patio containers. Great plant.
Can the creeping jenny you buy at Lowes or home Depot be planted in an aquarium? Will it live?? I'm sure there would be a melt back, of course. But could it work??
Last week I bought plants for my new small pond. And now this video came up. I got 4 of the 5 you recommend here 😂 (only missing the papyrus). I feel validated.
A couple years ago I used one of the 50G water trough tubs from TSC and made one end a soil base with sand cap with just a couple inches of water with the dwarf papyrus and a couple other pond plants inside and I absolutely loved it and so did the fish. And that setup was where I got dwarf hair grass to go absolutely nuts. That was in between the pond plants and the crypts in the deep end. Pond plants are fun with small fish and fry.
Hi Joanna I don’t have a pond. But do you have to keep them in the pots or can you plant them directly in the ground. I love that fireworks one and the hair type ones. In fact, I like them all. Thanks Joanna. Always interesting and fun. Have a great week!
Just started my 35 gallon deck pond. I planted umbrella palm, cardinal flower, sweet flag, blue eyed grass and yellow rain lily. All are planted marginally in dynadirt at about 4-5 inches. The only 1 that seems to be doing well is the umbrella palm. Maybe I just need to wait until it gets a little warmer and sunnier. My 2 feeder goldfish are living their best lives in there.
Greetings. Thankyou for the video. I really enjoyed it. I hope we’ll see more of your creativeness in times to come. You truly have a gift! Sincerely, Marty Borst 🌿🐠
I'm a new subscriber and found your channel after researching pond plants. I wanted plants that can be inside my pond but not submerged. I have fiber optic grass and Horsetail Reed that are both doing well. I'm in Zone 8. Love your suggestions though. I now will be on the lookout for Dwarf Papyrus!
I have a small indoor pond in my bedroom. It has a bog i have alot of plants and several mosses for the shrimp I keep. But i am always looking for ideas on what plants I can add
We have a beautiful 2500 gallon pond in our yard & I LOVE it… it is my peace oasis. However, I know nothing about plants so every year it is a struggle to find something hardy. thank you for this video.. will head out for some Creeping Jenny & Fiber Optics plants!
We planted some in zone 6b in soil around the pond and in a floating pot in the pond. Stuff in the ground came back and was growing like crazy until my Dad burnt it with fertilizer. Stuff in the pond came back too but frogs like laying on it so it never does well.
Ah yes, the famous “Creeping Jenny” video!! 🤣 I was wondering when it would show up. 😂 I was just at Steins yesterday and saw a few of these varieties. I have Creeping Jenny already and seems to be doing very well this year. It was choked out by another plant I had and now is making its comeback.😊 I’m looking forward to the rest of this series. My pond is very small too, so I’m excited to see how you set yours up!! Have a great Wednesday Joanna!
Good morning Joanna- nice group of plants- love the dwarf papyrus! Can’t wait for the next video about ponds- I almost have my husband convinced that we need a pond- lol - Tractor supply here we come! TYFS and have a great day!
Thanks so much! LOL you are my sister from another mister...I live in a suburb of Sacramento, CA, and have all of those plants in or around my koi pond 😊 I love all of your videos!
I am fortunate to have the space for a 1500 gallon pond. Have had it for 20 years but have been unlucky with plants because the fish like to root them out. I will be trying again. Too bad fish can’t go to time out like the grands lol. Thanks so much for the info. I love these kinds of videos.
Love this video Joanna! I have a 40 gallon pond in a stock tank right now and have been contemplating upgrading to 110 gallon steel tub. Thanks for these lovely plant ideas!
We’re 5a and it’s hard getting plants that’ll survive through our winters and snow where I live here in Montana. Many I had gotten just didn’t make it through
Sweet! Off to the nursery and came home with two "Baby Tuts" and one "Prince Tut!" Can't wait to get the 110 gallon stock tank up and running! Thanks Joanna! You cost/save me tons of moola! lol!!
Got my Patio Pond up and running, 50 gals. Put a heater in it cause I couldn't wait for it to warm-up. LOL! Got my Goldies, WCMM & Endlers; they make such a great grouping out there.
Awesome. I started with 2 feeder goldfish and will do WCM next. I didn't know endler could take the possible lower Temps. I will check them out. Mine is only 35 gallons so I don't want to overstock.
I love your videos, I am wondering. When putting Pothos in an aquarium should you only submerse the roots or the part of the stem covered with roots? I am worried that submersing them stem will cause it to get water logged and rot being exposed to the water constantly. Right now I have them resting on some clips with only the roots submersed and they seem to be doing ok, but I want to make sure that over the long term I am treating them properly. Thanks for your help.
I have a lot in my aquariums and basically just the roots are in the water, but I do have 1 that has grown sideways across the top of the tank and many of the leaves are under the water and they are just fine, not rotting.
