I cant find any examples of this. All the videos I looked at he plays with a straight hand. You should be more cautious about dismissing common technique under the guise of "style". The violin is a much less forgiving instrument than most, and it's much better to stick with proper technique until proven that it doesn't work, rather than look at a single example of someone violating a rule, and believing that it's a free pass for everyone to do what ever they want.

I think you might have gotten scammed, your bow has no rosin and is really bad, or (unless your playing open strings) it might be that you're not pressing on the strings hard enough
