"God works in mysterious ways" and "you just have to have faith" turned me into an atheist around the age of 8, and angry that I was being lied to. Now 52 years later, I've come to realize that not everyone is wired to accept illogical things, overriding rational thought with complete nonsense.

You were too brave. When I was 7 I already started realising that an all-loving god couldn't have created a world where cancer, multiple esclerosis and earthquakes existed (had close experiences with the 3), but kept "believing" because I was afraid of hell. Definitely threatening a kid with hell is thought-terminating.
@MG-ot2yr

@@eprd313 My parents were liberal Catholics, so I got a pretty tame version, and don't recall threats of hell, but yes that certainly can be thought-terminating. My parents more or less passed on the religion, feeling obligated to do so at the time, in the 60s-70s that was what they thought was required of parenting. So I stayed a closet atheist until age 18 or so, suffering through Catholic school and weekly mass, catecism, slept through most of it. I left home at 18 to be free from it, although today my mother is still living at age 93 she's not that religious anymore, doesn't go to church.

Atheists, Agnostics, and fanatic members of all Christian and non-Christian Religions KNOW that they are - 1. NOT worshippers of the Creator 2. NOT believers of the authority and teachings of Jesus Christ about the "Kingdom of God" and "Resurrection of the Dead". The Creator and his Christ KNOW that they have nothing to do with the beliefs, traditions, teachings, doctrines, and claims of Atheists, Agnostics, and fanatic members of all Christian and non-Christian Religions in the world. What will the CREATOR do for his worshippers and believers of his Christ? ANSWER - The Creator KNOWS that he will freely and willingly reward and honor all his worshippers and believers of his Christ with Eternal Life and existence without sufferings, pains, griefs, sickness, and death on a safe, secure, and peaceful earth without arrogant, cruel, and merciless persons, without liars, deceivers, slanderers, hypocrites, traitors, and murderers. What will JESUS CHRIST do for his believers and worshippers of the Creator? ANSWER - All human beings will just become worthless and useless dusts on earth after their deaths but all worshippers of the Creator and believers of his Christ who died recently and thousands of years ago like Abel, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Job, Naomi, Ruth, King David, Mary, Martha, Lazarus, and many others will not remain as worthless dusts on earth forever, instead in the right and proper time, Jesus Christ KNOWS that he will freely and willingly resurrect them back to life so they can all happily and abundantly live and exist on earth forever as submissive and obedient subjects of the "Kingdom of God" and fully enjoy his and the Creator's eternal love, kindness, goodness, compassions, generosities, favors, and blessings for eternity under his loving and kind rulership, guidance, and protection as the Creator's Chosen King and Ruler of the heavens and the earth.

When I was growing up in the Pentecostal church there were two old men who would get information about me from my mom. They would then relay this information to me allowing me to think that God had given them this information via revelation. @@torturedsouldepartment There is quite a disdain toward disbelief in the Bible. Paul especially. In one of his letters, Paul emphatically tells his followers to stay away from unbelievers. Taking the language of the Bible, as I do, to be mythical, it nevertheless shows, as language is always sure to do, in any age or country, the true standard of the then ruling morality. And I may safely assert that, as a rule, the greater the amount of religion, or which is the same thing - ignorance, the lower the standard of morality; and vice versa. the greater the amount of intelligence, the less there will be of religion, and the standard of morality will range higher. To many this may seem odd, but it is true, as all history will prove.

Words cannot express how grateful I am for your videos. You articulate the things that have been on my mind for years better than any other RU-vidr (in my opinion). From time to time, I get caught in a debate with my evangelical brother, and it seems like no matter how we start it off, it always boils down to "Christianity is true because Christianity is true" although not that stated quite that simply. Usually the question is raised, "By what standard can you claim that Christianity is false?" to which I respond "The same standard you use to claim Christianity is true" and then he says "My standard is God [and/or] the Bible" and when I question how he determined that standard to be effective, it goes round and round. And when I address the circular reasoning, he doesn't understand why it's a bad/unproductive thing (he's 2 years older than me). It's like a mental trap. 😬
@sulas548
@sulas548 Год назад
Next time you talk to your brother try this question on him. It is a purely logic based proposition and demonstrates that the Bible cannot be trusted to be true; It is a bit long so rather that read it out to him you could ask him to confirm that he agrees with each point before you get to the main question. I wrote it for believers so that is the way it is formatted . If we select fifty Holy Books including the Bible where all the supernatural events from each book 'contradict' EACH OTHER then we can only come to two logical conclusions. 1. All fifty books are fake and not one of them represents reality.(The most logical conclusion) or; 2. Forty nine are fake and one is true. Now that we have established that at 'least' forty nine (if not all fifty) are fake we have to then logically conclude that the authors of the 'fake' books were either; A. Delusional or genuinely mistaken and wrote what they did, genuinely believing that it was true, even though it was in fact 'not true', or; B. They were just dishonest and knew that what they wrote was not true but they wrote it anyway. C. Or most likely a combination of A&B There is no other explanation. We also know that the faithful believers, from each and every book will claim with utter certainty that 'their' book is the 'true' book because it says in 'their' book that it is true, (or words to that effect) and that they have 'faith' that it is true. "My book is true because my book says it is true" is a circular argument which again must be invalid for at least 49 if not all 50 books and the book's followers. Since ALL religious people say some sort of version of "my book is true because it says in 'my' book that it is true" then why would you think that this is a reliable method of ascertaining whether the Bible is actually factually and objectively true or not? I assume that you reject all the other books that contradict 'your' book as being fake. Now I will hazard a guess that right now you are thinking that of course it is the Bible that is true. So here is the question; "Could you tell me the exact method that 'you personally' used to establish as an undeniable fact that the Bible was NOT written by delusional, mistaken or dishonest writers just like ALL the other Holy books?" If you think you can answer then please don't quote from the Bible itself as I have just clearly demonstrated that this is a circular fallacy and is not a reliable method of ascertaining if any given book is 'actually' true or not. You will need some empirical outside evidence to back up your claim. It is objectively true that people write fake holy books and have done so in the thousands throughout history, so why on earth would 'you' believe that the book that you have ( most probably) been exposed to as a child is true when all the others are clearly not true? They cannot all be true but they can all be false. If you use it then please let me know how you got on.

I’ve created a similar thought experiment before, but any time it gets remotely difficult for him to process, he shuts it down with “Arguments will never lead to salvation, so I’m not continuing with this.” Because in his mind, he has no interest in considering my view to see if his holds up, but instead, he’s looking for literally any way possible (regardless of if it makes 0 sense) to convert me back, and if at any time it seems like I won’t be converting, then he’s completely done with the conversation and is usually angry. And it’s very frustrating for me because tbh I don’t care *that* much what he believes (I mean I do a bit because he’s family and I care about him, but not so much that I’d be really trying at that point) but the problem is I have a boyfriend and he has great issue with that, and I’ve done my best to demonstrate why I am completely justified in being with the one I love, but of course those words go in 1 ear and out the other. For example a family member when approached with a very similar argument thought she "won" the debate with telling me "You were such a good person til you went of to college for sTuPiD pHiLoSoPhY hurdur". Or blame the music I listen to, friends I hung out with, not being happy about my life (which I often prayed and begged god to make better as a young adult). Growing up as a Christian, I frequently heard my pastor use the cliché, "Don't believe the words of those so-called 'intellectuals.' They may deceive you into thinking they have a 'big brain,' when in fact, compared to our God, they have the tiniest brain." Clearly, the pastor anticipated that children would eventually grow up, attend higher learning institutes, and face the dilemma of whether to believe the teachings of these "intellectuals" and consequently embrace logical thinking, or to adhere to the beliefs of the Holy Bible, which is so illogical that they border on "black comedy." When combined with the undeniable reality that our lives are far from being a "bed of roses," and they require "comforting words" and community of like-minded people, and the fears surrounding aging, death, and belief of burning in "hell," it's not surprising that my pastor used the above words and that many still follow his words.

@ChristianApologeticsProject
There are only two worldviews. Jesus said, "Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters." There are believers and unbelievers, or as the Apostle John wrote, "children of God" and "children of the devil." All you're confessing here, Robert, is that you have never been "with" Jesus, but always against him; a practical atheist all along. Worse yet, you claim to be an atheist, even though you know God, since you were created in his image, just like all human beings are; you're simply incapable of honoring him as God. So, you create your idols to worship, centered on yourself, and here you are boasting of your exploits. Thinking of yourself as wise-a so-called "free thinker"-but yet, you're a fool. A rebel without a cause, with no hope and without God in the world; a model moron in the hands of the prince of the power of the air. Why did Jesus Christ live and exist on earth thousands of years ago? What is the worth, value, and importance of the authority and teachings of Jesus Christ to imperfect, suffering, and dying human beings? ANSWER - Jesus Christ KNOWS that all imperfect, suffering, and dying human beings who freely and willingly submit to his authority and believe his teachings about the "Kingdom of God" and "Resurrection of the Dead" will be favored, honored and rewarded by the Creator with Eternal Life and existence without sufferings, pains, griefs, sickness, and death on a safe, secure, and peaceful earth without arrogant, cruel, and merciless persons, without liars, deceivers, slanderers, hypocrites, traitors, and murderers. The Creator KNOWS that all his loving, kind, respectful, and submissive worshippers and believers of his Christ who died recently and thousands of years ago like Abel, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Job, Naomi, Ruth, King David, Mary, Martha, Lazarus, and many others will not remain as worthless dusts on earth forever, instead in the right and proper time, Jesus Christ will freely and willingly resurrect them back to life so they can all happily and abundantly live and exist on earth forever as submissive and obedient subjects of the "Kingdom of God" or His Kingdom and fully enjoy his and his Christ's eternal love, kindness, goodness, compassions, generosities, favors, and blessings for eternity under the loving and kind rulership, guidance, and protection of Jesus Christ as his Chosen King and Ruler of the heavens and the earth.

My first big wake up call was when my 36-year-old sister lost her 8-year battle with breast cancer. I was her baby sister, and we did a lot of things together. I was the nanny to her baby girl right after the diagnosis. I worked for them for 4 years. I was SO angry when she transitioned. The majority of my church "friends" chastised me. Some of them even went so far as to say that Sister died because we did not pray believing. After about 18 months of being told what a horrible Christian I was, I almost died by my own hand. I later joked that I wasn't even a rebel because I was still alive. Instead of lovingly supporting me while at 26 I struggled to make sense of it all, they left me to my own devices wagging their fingers and shaking their heads in disapproval. Not just in Christianity, but almost all religions claim to know the "truth" with such zeal, passion, and conviction. And none of these people seem to ask the question, "What if I'm wrong?" This applies to New Age stuff and everything. It's rare to find someone who says, "I don't know." Goes back further. In the year 999 many in Europe were sure Jesus was coming back in the year 1000. So they did not plant crops. They stopped working and went to the hilltops and mountains to pray. I guess they figured they’d have a front row seat as he was supposed to come “on the clouds.” New Year’s Eve wailing and singing floated from hilltop to hilltop. Midnight. No Jesus. Maybe he’ll come at dawn so we can see him. Dawn. No Jesus. Well, of course he was always going to come in the full glory of the sun at midday. Noon came and went. No Jesus. Some stayed in the mountains for days. Spring came. But no crops had been sown or stored. People starved. Europe starved. *** So we repeat history. “End of the world” fears are projections of one’s own inner fears. We’ve seen a lot of projection of fear in recent years.

The church tell us to ask and you will be saved, but I asked, for years and nothing, but at the same time I see people saying that God spoke to them and their life got better in every aspect, financially, emotionally, professionally and so on. While my life didn't change and I was begging all days non stop, and those "chosen" people just had to say a word and God give everything. After I realize that I was done with this mystical thing and if God exist and decides to punish me for not believing, this God is not a God of Love, because I kneel before him every day begging to be saved and he didn't do anything to help me, he made me with flaws and powerless and although I was humble to beg for help and admitted that I was wrong in every step, he did anything to help and if he exist and punish me it's not fair at all.

Yep. I’m 38 and fortunately was only involved in it for a couple years. My deconstruction started there in church during services lol. I started seeing things, and people, as they really were. Instead of being blinded by the feel good atmosphere and music. It’s quite literally insane. I won’t say this about many of the congregation because I feel like a lot of them are just being deceived and longing to be a part of something. But the leaders? Most of them are ironically the societal cancer that they constantly preach and speak out against

She's not explaining the fallacies of religion. Religion is literally a link between Creator and created. You can have true religion or false. She's substituting one for the other as an excuse to leave it all behind. Worse than this, she’s engaged in crafted mockery and scorning, desirous of plaudits and adoration.

When I first picked up a bible and to see what was actually in it, I was a teenager. At that time my father told me that I shouldn't be reading it, that I should just go to church and let the Priest tell me what it says. I love my father, but he isn't known for brilliant answers to life's issues. I've been reading/studying religions and bible(s) for decades. The logical path to deconstruction is in those bibles.

This video really brought home a point for me: That there is a heckuva lot of thought control going on in Christianity. Maybe more than any other world religion, perhaps. I have always believed that faith and reason need not be mortal enemies, that there is common ground on which the two can meet if you are bold enough to seek it. Intense thinking and wondering about the ultimate questions of existence actually provoked some of my most amazing spiritual experiences in life. Christian mysticism calls this process Kenosis, or a spiritual questioning or emptying of oneself; they also call it the Dark Night of the Soul. You might even go so far as to say that those who have never questioned their faith don't really have true faith.

Kristi, you really have highlighted so much of the gaslighting that goes on in the Christian Faith; all of which has left us feeling sinful, inadequate & insignificant. A loving God, a loving FATHER should want MORE for his children than for them to have to constantly confess THEIR faults; while praising HIM for being an all powerful, all knowing, faultless creator. This is the epitome of narcissism and I fully support the idea that critical thinking is exactly what needs to be applied here.

There is so much in your statement that is wrong.....where to begin....who is gaslighting you? You don’t understand The Gospel or someone hasn't given you the correct information. When you become a Christian, you have been forgiven, by Christ's sacrifice at the cross, of ALL OF YOUR SINS! YOU ARE FREE! YOU WILL LIVE FOR ENTERNITY IN JOY, HAPPINESS, PEACE, AND LOVE! @@BlankmanJ-5 Don't preach to me about the basis of the Christian belief. I was a Christian for many, many years and I believed what you believe. For many years, it did not sit right in my heart. I now choose critical, logical thinking over blind faith. There is no freedom in God's forgiveness when we continually confess our sins and ask for forgiveness in church every week? We all pray to be better people because we still think we are not enough in God's eyes. Where was this loving God when my family was being sexually, physically and emotionally abused by my Christian father?! Where was this loving God when my best friend died of cancer at a young age? Where was this God's love when he chose to kill ALL of mankind; bar Noah, his family & 2 of each animal, in a devastating flood. Why did this loving God set Adam and Eve up in the Garden of Eden with the Tree of Knowledge, when he knew in advance that they would partake of it? He set them up to fail and then punished them, and every other human born thereafter, to toil on the land they worked; gave pain in childbirth to every woman and awarded every person, the guilt of sin, before they took their first breath on this earth. There are so many examples in the Bible of God's wrath; of thousands upon thousands of deaths in his name; of his disgust and intolerance of the people he created in his image. I refuse to accept this as love, nor the fact that he felt the only way he could forgive us all was to have his son killed. THIS from an all powerful, all knowing, loving God? I think not.

Think of the possibility of an afterlife as a further evolutionary step in existence. Not believing in God doesn’t negate the possibility of an afterlife, it just doesn’t define it. That’s why when I die, I just don’t know. And I will never know until I die, so there’s no point in worrying about it. And I don’t believe any book, or any person does know. There’s a number of different near death experiences that people have had, but they are more likely to be explained by lucid dreaming than visiting the afterlife.

This is why you're meant to protect yourself from degenerate thoughts, doctrines and philosophies. Do you really think they promote immorality in every form of entertainment just for money? The starting point for my deconstruction was the question: "What happens to the people who have never heard the Gospel message?" and when I started asking Christians it wasn't long before I encountered my favorite thought-terminating cliché: "You should worry about your own salvation, not theirs." They seemed completely oblivious to the fact that if there was any chance of me being saved, it would come after I had received a satisfactory answer to that question. Perhaps if Christians had assured me that everyone would eventually be saved (i.e. the universalist position) I might even have remained in the faith, but it never happened. They didn't have an answer so they chastised me for daring to ask it instead. Occasionally I'd get another one: "Once you're saved, you will understand." to which there's the obvious follow up "Well, since you're saved, you must understand so why don't _you_ explain it to me?" which was typically met by radio silence.
