I like Mr ballen due to the background scenes and being able to watch something while the story is told, You're my fav RU-vid channel for bedtime but vids like this I would love to see again for during the day! ☺️
@@savannahshepherd2283 Same. This style is so much more compelling for my taste. That Chapter, MrBallen, DireTrip and Joel are the few who can do this without reading AT us. This was a great [pregnant pause] surprise.
Dying to know what the panting/wheezing at the end was about. Very Tour de France "King of the Mountains" acceptance speech gasping. Give that man the mallot â pois rouges jersey for the day! Perhaps you performed River Dance on the stream? I have to check those out. I hear you're a gas.
I was honestly surprised she even picked him! He was so creepy during their exchanges. Dude was groaning and gasping is some of the responses to her questions 😑
In early May of 1971, a friend and I happened to meet Alcala in a park in Long Island, NY. We agreed to let him drive us over the bridge to Fire Island. Long story short- he started acting creepy. We took off and hitch hiked back to the mainland. Clearly, he was actively looking for his next victim. A month later he killed someone in Manhattan. We were lucky to get away.
That dude was a special kind of sick- thank God he didn’t get you and your friend. It’s a good thing you were together because it seems like that one liked to prey on single women.
So he was just homophobic 👍🏽 a gay guy having a crush shouldn’t make a straight man uncomfortable, especially to the point of murder. If you feel otherwise that’s ignorance on your part 🤷🏽♂️
@@denisejohnson4037 if you’d ever had any “admirers” then you’d understand how flattering it is. I’m gay and girls hit on me all the time, you think I take offense to it?
i knew a dude in high school that was just like stephen mcdaniels, eerily he's awaiting a jail sentence for stalking some girls we knew in high school. he's 36 years old and spent the last 15+ years stalking and harassing these girls and taking pictures and even publicly proclaimed he snuck into one of their houses....god i hope he gets locked away for good
I just have to mention....you keep saying his (Stephen's) friend Lauren....but she was NOT his friend...they were not friends. He had a thing for her and she did not like him and he creeped her out. She had turned him down when he asked her out. He stalked her IRL and online, peeped at her...and if course, ultimately he horrifically and brutally murdered her. She was NOT his friend.
Joel has a very bad habit of doing things like this to female victims in his narratives (surprised Stephen didn't also get the mental illness pass card that the gamer guy did). Thank you very much for keeping Lauren's voice alive.
Steven McDaniel lived in the city of Macon, not Macon County. I live in the same city. Everybody around here knew he was guilty from the start. I drive by the little apartment building where both Steven and Lauren lived everyday. It's so sad my heart and prayers go out to her family
28:00 with peace and love, Trevor’s passing did not deserve to be honored. Yes, he should be pitied, yes, it was a tragedy, and yes, he can’t have been entirely in his right mind. But, he’d risked others’ lives previously. He was lucid and knew driving the way he did would end in the horrible demise of others. He murdered that innocent family along with himself. He shouldn’t be raked over the coals, but neither should his murder/suicide be honored.
yea exactly, its like elliot rodgers. He was extremely mentally ill and its a tragic shame no one stepped in to help him with his clear psychiatric issues, but in NO WAY should he be commemorated or honoured with remembrance. He killed innocent children, very similar to how Trevor killed an innocent child himself. Its absolutely disgusting. That little girl could have grown to be a fantastic human being, a nurse or doctor, a master carpenter or welder, an actor, an artist....she was JUST 12 years old. she lived 12 years on earth before she it was all halted to a stop by this man's lack of mental sanity. And for just that alone, he should be looked down upon.
@@Wellnseddich if we was under 24/7 evaluation by doctors/nurses, I doubt he'd have done what he done, unless he was some crazy ninja spy who can escape from hospitals. He clearly wasnt fit to be living on his own without some kind of watch or caregiver. He seemed mentally immature and definitely mentally unwell.
@@cheggycchig You can't just get someone supervised 24/7. He got therapy and meds. He was recommended to live in a facility, but guess he didn't want to? He got so much more than many others do, he had a good childhood, his parents treated him well, according to a psychologist they treated him TOO well and made him as entitled as he turned out to be.
I don't know. I'm sure I would know though if I was listening to the live stream because at the very end he's all out of breath. I'm assuming it's an inside joke for peopleq who watched the stream.
I bet it was because he was doing sit ups, push ups or jumping jacks. Sometimes I'll get to his stream and at the end of one of the stories he would be doing some exercises. I was thinking he was doing them while he was doing the ending. lol
"Congratulations,Cheryl! You've just won a date with the devil!" SMH. Thank goodness she trusted her intuition and refused to go on the date! The Dating Game did a terrible job vetting their contestants IMO. Alcala was already a monster, then went on to commit more murders after the show.
I dont think he would have killed her he was cunning and the world knew she was with him. Serial killers from I have seen in bios they are calculating and anything but stupid
But he's on the thumbnail for this video, leading you to assume he would be the killer. Also, if you ever watched those type of shows (Springer, Sally-Jesse, etc.) it's more obvious they bring out the oblivious party after talking to the others, so the audience is in on the surprise. Anyway, it's just the raw footage from the show looped, not sure how else he could have edited it.
I am so sad about the Trevor Heitmann story. I battle severe depression and suicidal ideations, but never the thought of harming someone else. Mental health is every bit as important as physical health and I wish we could get to a place where that fact is common knowledge.
@@rocknroller77 Seconded. He had more than most people could ever get and he still killed 2 innocent people because he wasn't happy. If he only killed himself, I'd feel sorry for him
You know what, I don't care about his mental illness. If he killed himself then that's one thing. But he went out of his way to kill someone else. We can't keep pat-patting mental illness as a reason or excuse for murder. Some guys are just selfish turds.
@@veronicavatter6436 How many people who know they're about to commit murder - manslaughter, whatever you want to call it - would tell police? He already almost did it before that. Not blaming the cops if that's the law (I'm not familiar with the specifics), just saying...
This episode hits so close to home seeing for certain with real footage confirming our fears on how low human depravity can go to cause harm to others of their kind...
Trevor killed two innocent people, one of whom was only 12 years old, and he got REWARDED for it? Sure, he's not around to reap the benefits, but come ON.
For anyone that hasn’t seen the interview video for the fist guy (Stephen) I highly recommend it. This kid sits perfectly still almost the whole time and it’s quite unnerving. The dude doesn’t even scratch his face or adjust his butt in the seat!
Yeah, I remember the whole McSkillet controversy. The police officers in question actually had the ability to hold Trevor for a day in custody under the pretense of having a psychiatric evaluation performed by professionals, but for some odd reason, they chose not to, instead placing the onus on the family to try and look after him while they were already struggling with finding a psychiatrist to see him on such short notice. Personally I think those officers kinda dropped the ball for the aforementioned reasons, though given the fact that I am unfamiliar with big city police procedures due to being a lifelong country boy, I cannot say whether they intentionally bungled this mess up or simply made a bad judgment call on their part without realizing until far too late how badly it would get.
@stmsin not that they have good motivations, but some are worse than others and his was in the top. Some have more understandable motives, not that they’re excusable.
@@mushyroom9569 you commented on an old comment to say something someone else already said? I also already explained myself, not that I need to. I’m pretty confident you know exactly what I mean. There’s a reason murder charges are different based on motive and whether they were planned.
Jenny Jones’ producers intentionally mislead that man to get him on the show bc he specifically asked if the secret admirer was a female and after trying to roundabout him for a bit the producer told him that he wouldn’t be disappointed then on the show they antagonized it more and more after clearly seeing how embarrassed and uncomfortable it was for him but prior to that they were friendly neighbors. Jenny Jones and her producer are directly responsible for what happened as well and the man that committed the murder.
He was a psychotic idiot, he’s to blame, he took it and put him self to go over there and kill him Jenny Jones didn’t force him. it’s called personal responsibility.
@@laurenharris9832 his father was Very homophonic and May have been a driving force in his decision to murder another person. The episode was fixing to air and he would have been “embarrassed “. Jenny Jones and her Producers lied to get him there. His “embarrassment “ and his father just fueled his panic at being “gay” He’s out of jail now but should have spent Way more time in prison imo
The Jenny Jones drama was insane and huge in Michigan... Really sad all around... Jenny Jones and her staff claimed they we didn't mean for anything bad to happen... WTF?!? They just prefer the drama be on their stage instead of taking them to a courtroom...
So true, but honestly, I can’t imagine ending someone’s life just because they had a crush on me. The fact that he’s not still behind bars is ludicrous.
@yolandaponkers1581 I'm going to start by saying I don't condone what this guy did, but it wasn't just about a man liking him. I suggest you look into it. There is way more to the story and the Jenny Jones show egged it all on.
I remember watching Jenny Jones when I was younger (like 12/13), but I didn’t know about this episode til I watched _Dark Side of the ‘90s_ about a year ago. Crazy seeing his reaction here knowing how it turns out later 😔
I don't know why everyone says that the episode of the Jenny Jones show wasn't broadcast because I watched it on TV with my husband and I remember the poor guy was single and excited because he thought he was going to meet the woman of his dreams, although the jennyJenny Jones show was turning toward a Jerry Springer kind of show it wasn't yet so it was a shock when this poor guy was not only tricked by that hungry rateing witch but his crush was saying things that obviouslya straightguy wouldfeel very uncomfortable about and JennyJones along with the audience was encouraging his behavior. The rumor (without proof) that they went out for drinks was just that a rumor but his crush wouldn't stop pursuing him. I truly believe that he should have won a temporarily insanity case and got probation and not prison, his crush knew he wasn't gay but didn't care he still tried to force his lifestyle on an innocent straight man.
Sounds a bit weird that you saw it on TV, are you sure you aren’t wrong cuz many have claimed that episode never aired and was lost media until it was found later.
😮The show was not broadcast. Also a secret crush does NOT justify murder. I'd have given him the death penalty! Anyway you did not watch this on TV that is a lie!
Love your narrations. Even though I've heard about all of these cases, I still learned something new in each one. You also make them interesting that I don't mind.
Just so everyone knows, those beeping sounds in the end are actually at the end of all Let's Reads videos, it's not hospital equipment. Can't say what the heavy breathing is all about, but the beeps are a part of every video ending...

Thank you for this video. I don’t think people talk about stuff like this enough. It’s a real eye opener for society that we all need to be more careful regardless of the circumstance.
I was just over on Spotify looking for something good to listen to, but found that I have watched all of the Let's Read episodes there. 😭 So glad this popped up!! ✌🏽
it's pretty crazy to think if that garbage truck was on time, she would have never been found and declared dead. they may have just listened her as 'missing' and never spent time trying to make an arrest.😳
The Scott Amedure story was featured in an HBO documentary, from years ago, called Talked To Death. It was about the “ambush talk shows” that were on the air at the time.
28:02 Why did the developers of Counterstrike pay tribute to Trevor for? He literally drove recklessly almost hitting some pedestrians and ended up running into a car on purpose and killing two people he doesn't deserve any sympathy at all.
Actually, I'm very surprised to be saying that it was not the show's fault (having listened to the facts provided). The young man kept his composure on the show, hugged the admirer, declared himself heterosexual (politely declining romantic advances), and apparently was well behaved on a get-together or "date" (organized by the show as well). What sent him over the edge, was the "explicit" note that the admirer chose to put on his front door. That was a PERSONAL choice, an action taken by the dead man, and not one that had been encouraged on or arranged by the show. It is tragic and he is indeed guilty of murder, but all of this still could have played out in real life. Legally, and ultimately, the Jenny Jones show was not responsible -- the individuals were.
@@tablescissors I would disagree, not solely responsible but they need to own some of it. These questions/subjects are on purpose triggering. To cover their ass for liability, guests need to be at least slight aware of what they may be talking about. You don’t know who is going to snap or what will be the push over point. Hindsight, I understand, especially during the 90s, but current year - that show was deeeefinitely liable.
@@christinaa7469 I disagree, if he had gone right away over there to kill him, I might agree with that, but he waited three days. plenty of time to think about what he was going to do, or not do. He made the choice to go take money out, so he could go buy a gun. then went over and shot him, he’s directly responsible for what he did. he knew exactly what he was doing. ending another persons life.
The final story is heartbreaking but timely. I'm in the furry fandom, which is typically an open-minded and accepting community. Lo and behold, we have extremists in our fandom and they're usually not very welcome because they are dangerous people. This July 4th, an extremist furry in our fandom set up an IED in the middle of a crowd in downtown NC and thank goodness the bombs didn't go off, but he did get charged with "intent of deadly force of weapons of mass destruction". I heard he got out of jail on bail, and that's the scariest thought. The good thing is that now the entire fandom knows about him and there are BOLOs directed at him in our fandom.
@@N3phi11im The story is BS and North Carolina was probably not a part of it. Russia knew in advance that these 2 brothers were plotting a terrorist attack in Boston and they repeatedly warned Obama about it. Obama laughed and ignored Russia. Russia had been following and spying on these two brothers because they were from the terrorist region of Chechnya and were known to hob nob with terrorists. That was in the press at that time but, for some reason, this RU-vid site didn't mention this
I probably sound really ignorant right now but...what is the whole point of being a furry? I'm trying to find at least one thing about it that isn't completely cringe...someone tell me something i can actually deal with knowing
The game company's response to Trevor McClaren's death is one of the most appalling things I've ever heard of when it comes to a corporate response. How old were those execs, seven?!?!?
Nope, just incredibly selfish. He wasn't doing anything wrong, but of course corporate greed got the best of the CS Execs. This story was one of the reasons I stopped playing, I don't wanna incorporate myself with garbage people. Trevor did a horrible thing, but he wasn't well (as a depressive person, I understand). But the corporate pigs are to blame for it. And then they decide to pay "tribute" to him, bullshit. Still hoping to this day CS loses all of its audience.
@@JohnSacapano ik im necro-ing this but y'all really don't know what you are waffling about. The map "Engage" (featured in Operation Broken Fang) was not made by Valve and McSkillet's logo was not included there because of corporate greed. I am under the impression that Joel did not do enough research, so let me clear some things up. Engage was made by a community mapper "catfood" and 2 other persons, Valve used to regularly accept community-made content into CS:GO (maps, weapon skins and gun stickers among others) and they used to pay the creators huge sums for it aswell, so the scene was flourishing. catfood could have included McSkillet's logo as an easter egg/homage or something, or it could just be a coincidence. But the gist is that Valve is lazy with quality control and almost never checks for stuff like this in community made content. So they are partly responsible for the controversy, but they did not do it out of greed, that's for sure
My science teacher was running in the Marathon. Being 8th graders, 99% of my classmates (and myself) weren't interested in watching it on TV. We ALL heard about the bombing. The teachers weren't allowed to tell us our teacher was ok. We literally didn't know until we walked into class and there she was, visibly tired.
I love these type of videos. Idk why but to me it makes the story more tense and personal when you can put a face to the people the story’s are about. Maybe that’s just me 🤷♂️
The Marathon Bombing was one of those events that you remember where you were when it happened. I had the day of the Marathon off but my gf at the time had to work at the ritzy Health Club. I remember hanging out in the lobby area waiting for her to finish up when I noticed a news report come on.
The first video is truly chilling. It goes to show you the depths of human depravity. What’s even worse, is the lack of humanity that exists in some men who stalk the objects of their obsessions. Humans have an animal instinct that warns us of imminent danger and a person’s intentions. If your gut tells you that you’re in danger, believe it.
It's crazy how a man who is wanted for killing in multiple different states, can slip onto a TV show and possibly find a new victim. Her institution on him being creepy most likely saved her life
I’m beyond hooked on ur channel! I especially love when u do lives! Also can’t wait till u do the Collab with “ Being Scared “ it’s going to be 💣 keep up the phenomenal content Mr. Joel 💙💙
If you want to take your own life then do it alone. He took that poor child and mom away from this world and their families all because he wanted to end his own life.
It just irks me when someone says, "they will never see the light of day ever again". When someone gets life in prison, they get to see light, the sky, and even the moon, the deceased will never see the light of day ever again, it is not the living.
She has quite the gum line. She actually refused to go on the date with him. She got to know him backstage and said he gave her the creeps and said no. She’s incredibly lucky.
Does anyone else think it was strange that the parents were shocked at how much their son made selling skins but the $700K McClaren was not a big hint?
Yeah shocked that he made money on something that doesn't actually exist as a material object. There are people on the planet who have no interest in gaming and I doubt his parents were in to gaming and didn't quite understand how it worked
That’s what I can’t understand they had to have noticed more expensive things around the house. I mean a McLaren, how in the hell did they think he got that
Only time I saw my mother shed actual tears was when she got badly bit by an animal. She would have heaving in her chest, rub her eyes, rock with her arms folded, moan, and other symptoms of sadness or grief, but no actual tears. Most of her siblings were the same way. No tears at her parents, husband, or sons, or her siblings death. No tears when she broke two bones in her leg. I am not that way but I know others the same way as she. So no tears doesn’t mean no sadness, pain, or shock in some people.

This one really hits home for me since I was living in Massachusetts at the time of the marathon bombing and due to unforeseen circumstances did not go to the marathon on that day which kept me and my husband from being right at the sight where the bombs went off on Boylston Street. Someone was definitely looking out for us that day.
The Trevor story will be repeated. In a world of increased social media influencers, I wouldn’t be surprised if this wasn’t a more common occurrence in the future.
boston bombing happened the day after my 14th birthday. i lived about 40 minutes away from it. i will never forget how hard my mom and i cried. people from my school were there, some family there in the stands. we were terrified. boston strong 💚
Correction to the first story, it was Macon the city, not macon the county. (There are both in Georgia, and they're pretty far from each other.) I'm from there; we drove down the road the dumpster was on the day before they found her. We all commented on the smell and not knowing what it could be. It's shocking to have that happen so close to home. And very sad, she was so young and had so much ahead of her.
It would be nice if you would get off this channel and not tell people how to run it if you don’t like the way that someone conduct their own business on their own channel, then get off of it
@@cricketstarr1489 I gave gentle feedback without being rude or insulting. A year ago, at minimum. I don’t watch this channel anymore, because it was indeed frustrating to be advertised creepy videos and have them talked over and described instead of just being shown for what they are, like other channels I watch. But I see nothing wrong *politely* making a suggestion. That keyword for you is *politely*.
I was Jennys hairdresser during her show run. Id show up every morning at 630 am for her blowout. She was usually quiet and focused on the show of the day. She mentioned the show with secret admirers. I just said, sounds fun but she didnt mention any surprises. If She did i would definitely have told her not to do it. Not that my opinion would matter but it was just a stupid thing to do. I remember the trial and her show shutting down. It was just a very unfortunate thing that no one expected to happen.
