Nice! I've used NovelCrafter since December, but when someone has questions about writing with AI, I prefer to ask them to watch your videos. They are thorough and stick to the topic.
Is there a recommended source for the very basics? While I can tell you did a great job explaining this, there are a lot of specific lingos and concepts that are things and ideas I have never come across. This seems to have its own language, and I don't yet speak it.
I recently got Novelcrafter. In Codex, there is opportunity to add Story Genre. What level of detail should be added here? What I’m mostly thinking is whether I should just strictly add the genre only or should I possibly e.g. add the main trope that I want to come through the story. For example, let’s say I’m writing a fantasy, with heist trope. Would it be a good idea to add the heist trope in the Story genre? I don’t want to overwhelm the AI by giving too much information, but at the same time, I want my chosen trope to come across, and I don’t want AI to forget this aspect of the story.
It's a good idea to specify both the genre and main trope in Novelcrafter's Codex. Adding the trope, like "heist," along with the genre, "fantasy," helps the AI focus on the specific elements you want. This ensures your chosen trope comes through without overwhelming the AI. For example: Story Genre: Fantasy Main Trope: Heist This approach provides clear guidance for the AI to craft your story effectively.
To add a sample chapter as a style guide in Novelcrafter, you can usually find an option to upload or input text samples in the settings or customization section. Here’s a general approach: -Navigate to Settings/Customization: Look for options like "Style Guide," "Samples," or "Customization" in the tool. -Upload or Input Text: There should be an option to upload a document or copy-paste a sample chapter directly. -Specify Usage: Indicate that this sample is to be used as a style guide for tone, pacing, and writing style.
Same. I'm currently on the free trial and have watched all the videos on the Novelcrafter RU-vid channel, but I'm left confused. THIS video explains things so well - I hope the others come along real soon!
Yes, NovelCrafter typically has a help desk or support team that you can contact for assistance. You can usually find their contact information on the NovelCrafter website under sections like "Support," "Help," or "Contact Us." They may offer support via email, live chat, or a ticketing system. Additionally, you can check if they have a user community or forum where you can ask questions and get help from other users.
Thank you so much! I've been watching your videos and this comes perfect just in time! - Oh, btw I'm using the platform for English and Spanish writing and both work great.
Can you use a free ai tool too like bing or sth? I don't really want to spend anything and adding some more on top of the novelcrafter subscription is a bit much for my broke ass
Some of the open source models are extremely low cost. I would use Claude 3.5 Sonnet because it’s super low cost and probably the best model for creative writing.
Do you know any apps like novelcrafter that I can install locally and have it on my hard drive? I'd prefer to have something that I can access even when internet is down.
You began speaking "experienced" when you went thru the process of creating an OpenAi key. You said "Name the key" and moved on. What kind of name is best served for this process? "Then after receiving the secret key you said, "Come over here" as if "here" is an agreed upon or previously mentioned site or page. Tried to follow and then when I got back to OpenRouter it wouldn't let me put the new key in. So, once again, as it has happened literally a thousand times I have zero success trying to follow "experienced" instructions. Thanks anyway.
i didn't have to name the key. when open novelcrafter connected to openrounter, the key was named automatically. Keys are what allows you to connect to other API platforms, so you can connect openrouter to other software. Think API as the connection between the two, and the key is what is authorizing the communication between the two
Is there a dark mode? Bright white burns out my retinas! Not sure how anyone manages to write for hours with a bright white screen So hope there is a dark mode? Thanks
I think everything is in place to do that in NC, but Anthropic is the holdup here. They do not allow web based connections at this time. Hopefully they will change this restriction some day/
I prefer Mistral Large, I can't speak on the price, but Mistral Models are not moderated, plus I prefer Llama style prose, as its not too far from my own style so its easier to rewrite a scene. Also because my story is R-rated.
I can't get Novel crafter to import my Vella episodes as chapters. It refuses, as it apparently only lets you import entire novels with chapters already marked. You cannot import a file that is a single chapter. This seems like an oversight but feels like a bug. Frustrating, but I suppose I can do it all manually one at a time or use another program to manually designate chapters and merge the hundreds of episodes I had in that format. Ugh. I am dreading that... I'm not sure I appreciate the extra work, but I suppose that's just my situation. How do other Vella authors handle this? If any are reading.
I tried uploading a one page scene as well and couldnt get it to work. Kept saying i need a heading even after I went into the file and created a heading. So I just gave up.
If you connect NovelCrafter to both OpenRouter and OpenAI, how does NovelCrafter know to use the GPT associated with the OpenAI connection as opposed to the OpenRouter connection, as it appears both provide access to Chat-GPT?
I love this software. Thanks! I am finally making progress on my novel I have been working on for a couple of years now. I got going pretty good and was using scrivener which I thought was great. I was basically manually doing the same thing by going into chatGPT and Claude and copying back into scrivener . I am having a problem exporting though. The chapter summaries are doing fine but if I try to export prose, it puts short paragraphs on each page. I am exporting to Docx, and my Mac opens it up in pages. I can place it into InDesign fine. But i have a different workflow before putting into InDesign for final formatting. Any tips?
Hey there, that's a known issue with people using Pages. Right now, you can open the word file in Google Docs and re-export. We don't have an idea why it only happens with Pages yet, but we're working on a fix!
@@novelcrafter one issue that I have in InDesign using the Book module is solved by not using .docx files only exporting to the older .doc word files instead. That’s how I have to export my scrivener files. Novelcrafter doesn’t give that as an option. Just in case that helps?
I may be incorrect, but as I understand it Openrouter charges the same as Open AI per use. Openrouter charges more for credits. Example if you pay 20.00 for credits, you get a little less, like 17.00 in credits. But that is the only difference.
I'm befuddled by the AI costs myself. I'm happy to pay pennies, even up to $20 per month in total for AI usage, so can anyone confirm that this is not in addition to flat monthly charges. In other words, is it the case that you only pay for what you use? If you never use a particular AI program that month, it costs you nothing?
@@phnompenhandy I only use OpenRouter with NovelCrafter. After I linked my OpenRouter account I was able to add $10 to my account. I was immediately deducted $1 from my total credits, which is OpenRouter's commission. I then had $9 dolars credit on my account which can be used for my AI use. Each AI instruction from NovelCrafter is itemized in OpenRouter under the usage menu and I believe you have up to 12 months to use those AI credits in your account. Hope that helps.
@@phnompenhandy Openrouter and OpenAI is pay what you use. There aren't any other costs, so if you don't use it, you don't pay for it. There are subscription chat subscriptions like ChatGPT and Claude Pro that charge $20 per month whether you use it or not; however you can't connect those to NC.
@@phnompenhandy Novelcrafter itself is a monthly flat fee, and any AI actions are getting charged through OpenRouter (or other connections you set up), which will be on-top. That's because some people only use cheap/free models, run local ones on their own hardware, or don't use any AI at all.
Please stop the background noise/tune unless you're having work done in the house, in which case, thank you. I LOVE your content but this is the second video in a week with the distraction of a background tune that I haven't finished. Your content is inspiring.
I don't think it's any of your business to go around telling others to stop putting background music into THEIR OWN VIDEOS. Or no. If you wrote this kinda garbage on my channel.....guess what....insta-block!
@@KCComics I love the Nerdy Novelists content, particularly his love streams, rammed with amazing content for an aspiring author taking his first few steps. However, I find it very difficult to discern his voice from the background noise. My request was both respectful and hopeful. However, if you reflect his wishes and feelings then I shall unfollow him and find an alternative source and inspiration for my writing. I am particularly interested in the novel rafter software. I sincerely meant no offence to the originator of this content and wish him every success in the future. I will unsubscribe forthwith. Good luck to you all
@@ohmydavenah, you should do whatever YOU want mate. I don’t think you were particularly rude or anything, it’s clear to me that you like the channel and expressed a wish to improve it for your viewing experience. That guy commenting that you should leave was just being weird. If he was approaching my house, I would lock the door 🤷♂️😆 but this not a house, it’s just a youtube channel and you can do whatever you want. He threatens to block you on his channel, but this is not his channel 😆 Oh my lord..
Hi, I have just started watching and following your channel. Can you suggest from which video can I start watching to learn and not waste time in watching videos where the older models of AI are irrelevant now.
wait you can run mistral ai on novel crafter without open router or did i misunderstand that part i mainly want to run free models i even have a graphics card that is compatable it passes when i ran it through ollama but my processor doesn't have some architecture and thus it blocks it and its way too slow to use but open router is being blocked by all my cards i can't seem to give them money to save my life
I have a question regarding your prompts, can they be set up to limit the difficulty of the words to a specific grade level? For example, if your novel is targeting young readers rather than let's say middle age readers with a college degree ? This could be helpful too if you're writing a children's book or inversely, writing a complicated SyFy novel like Dune.
Yes, you can set up prompts to limit word difficulty to a specific grade level. Specify the desired reading level in your prompt, use readability tools like Flesch-Kincaid, and provide examples to guide the AI. This helps tailor the language for your target audience, whether it's young readers or advanced readers.
maybe you ran out of money on the AIs, it will stop if it runs out of funds. You can set a limit or leave it unlimited so that you get prompted if you run out of funds.
It's hard to say definitively if NovelCrafter will work with Grok 1.5 Vision in the future without official announcements from the developers. However, if both tools are part of a broader ecosystem or if there's demand for integration, it's possible they might work together eventually. Keep an eye on updates from both NovelCrafter and Grok 1.5 Vision for any news about compatibility or integration plans. You can also reach out to their support teams for the most accurate information.
I wanted to see if Novelcrafter is a secure system for writing (meaning my saved data is not shared or utilized for further ai model training). Do you know the answer to this question or where I could find detailed information about their policy?
Remember back in HS when the cool kids beat up us Nerds..well they will be running to us NOW.. hahahaha I love your videos.. but please note that the repetitive Dentist office music is NOT necessary and since I listen to videos at 2x speed, it really really is annoying for us folks that do that. Keep on Rocking the content is awesome it doesn't need musical accompaniment
So this doesn’t tell me how to set up novelcrafter it tells me how to set up a novel in novelcrafter. I need to know what tier I need to buy and where I get a key from since it says I have to have one of my own to use ai
