Captures of five of CSX's new Heritage Units, painted in a combination of the latest CSX livery and the original livery of classic old American railroads which became part of the CSX system.
Note: This is a short version of my original CSX Heritage engines video, with much better post-processing to eliminate most of the noise present in the original version's night footage.
The heritage engines visited central Florida July through September 2023, within days or weeks of their new livery being painted at Waycross, Georgia. They're seen in Tampa or Lakeland in chronological order of their visits. Some are seen on daytime trains, but three of the heritage engines were captured late at night arriving in Tampa on the nightly intermodal train i045.
Special mention and thanks to @SeaboardRailfanner who has been amazing in giving me and other railfans timely heads-ups on heritage and other units coming into Florida. He has a channel with lots of great catches!
The arriving intermodals were a nice opportunity to image these trains, as they would arrive at yard speed at one side of Uceta Yard, drop their intermodal consist in the Uceta ramps, and the locomotives (sometimes with cuts of Tropicana Juice boxcars) would then emerge on the other side of Uceta yard for two more yard speed passes, in an area with very good night lighting for photography and videography. By the third time around, I'd found the best lighting and camera angles.
Several trains were captured crossing the Tampa Bypass Canal and Palm River in a dual-frame video: a telephoto closeup of the train makes up most of the frame, and a wide-angle view shows much or all of the train crossing the trestle at the bottom of the frame.
Very fast f1.4 lenses and special techniques were used to shoot and process the night footage in very low light, much of which was pushed to ISO 50,000 and beyond. All footage was shot with Canon M6ii APS-C mirrorless cameras.
