Hey Rusty. Just passed you on the Hwy heading north. Just letting you know that you have no indicators but the brake lights are working on the van. Have a safe trip

Hey Alicia, thankyou so much for letting me know. I checked the lights before I left home, but now it appears the left indicator doesn't work on the van....so that's something for me to fix, now that I'm home. Where did you pass me and what were you driving??? Keep an eye out for my upcoming video about this trip!!

I love being out in the bush and I always enjoy the experience. I've just come back from 2 weeks in the bush and I'm editing the video now, so keep an eye out for that one....and I'm already planning my next trip, too!!

Great video mate and yes we carry most of what you have. In addition to that we carry a defibrillator in the truck as you never know who may need it, plus we live in our van full time so we have everything on hand. We had a ripper of a season last year just south of where you were but not a lot of luck this season so far but it’s early. By the way thanks for the plug it’s most appreciated. See you around the traps

That's a pretty good camping setup you have there Rusty. I like the carrier for the quad on the drawbar on the caravan. The gold is pretty elusive at times eh. Currently at Yalgoo with the Mrs and will do some detecting tomorrow. The ground further north is very wet after the recent rain, so hopefully better here 😊.

Hi Mark, the camper set up has taken a few tweaks to get it to where I want it, but really happy with it now. The goldfields has had a bit of rain lately, so that makes getting around, a bit tricky. I hope you find some gold on this trip.

Things we carry in our pack or on our person. I carry a few things. A Silva compass. A 3lt camel back pack, knife with fire starter, a headtoarch, a power bank, solar powered, takes forever to charge, but does charge. I also carry a few of those energy squeeze packs cyclist's use. With my quad, I carry all sorts of stuff, puncture kits and ryobi plus 1 compressor. You have a really nice set up bloke. I'm totally different country to you though, darwin area.

@RustysOutbackAdventures , that was early in the dry season and and sketchy moment! Blew a fuel hose off a badly repaired injector, lost about 20lt of petrol in about 10 minutes. Usually, the grass is fire bombed, this year it is really late, which makes it frustrating. There is some good gold here, but very sparse patches. My best is 7.5 oz nugget, and an 11 oz day, so can have so.e good ones!

Hi mate. Where did you purchase the Starlink from? I believe you can get an adapter from battery to Starlink which lets you connect by 12volt.
@RustysOutbackAdventures
@RustysOutbackAdventures 7 дней назад
Hi Trevor, I purchased Starlink online and brought the 'roaming' package so I can pause and unpause it when I'm not using it. I have heard that the new version is 12V powered, rather than the Gen 2 router that is 240VAC powered, which I run off an inverter in my caravan.

I heard to carry emu air horn, solar, works is like a reverse led light. They have diodes. Some times the diode breaks down. Carbon. There two diodes. One a bypass for series panel connection panels. The second inline for reverse protection. Because at night the panel becomes a led light in a spectrum you can not see. If need to replace, buy big power diodes
@RustysOutbackAdventures
@RustysOutbackAdventures 3 месяца назад
Funny thing is, that roof mounted solar panel that I thought wasn't working, has been working just fine....I did notice it had a film of dust over it, so maybe that was causing it to not work properly.

You're right, David...the Thuyara satellite suffered a 'force majeure' (something must have crashed into it), so I've just upgraded to the Iridium GO unit. What you should carry, but don't, and everyone else seems to not carry either, is firewood. You could easily have bought enough for a five day trip from a firewood supplier. The reason why this is an issue for me, is the wood on the ground is part of the ecology/environment. It provides homes and shelter for small creatures, and when degrading it provides nutrients to plants. Collecting and burning wood is destructive. I hate seeing people with these massive bonfires that waste so much wood. Eventually, there will be a scarcity of wood with everyone collecting it. People go camping to enjoy it, but you are destroying what you came for.

Another question if you need to use your PLB in case of an emergency. Do you need to pay for the police rescue or plane or helicopter in the gold fields as I have had a heart attack in the past but feel I am a lot healthier now but you never knowwhat might happen. Car. Snake. Broken bone.ect . At 59yo i am no longer young but i would be going out alone. Cheers Andy hopeland perth.
@RustysOutbackAdventures
@RustysOutbackAdventures 3 месяца назад
As far as I'm aware, you're not required to pay for the cost of search and rescue efforts, if you set off your PLB. Much better to be found at the location of your PLB, should you get into trouble and need rescuing, than need help and not have any way of contacting someone, only for a full scale search be launched if nobody has heard from you for a while and nobody knowing exactly where you are.
