Video Summary:
This is a 6 day solo Amazon Rainforest journey about discovery and survival. I am on the search for the perfect canal for packrafting and for a new tour itinerary. Along the way I have to overcome various obstacles such as dangerous animals like caimans and piranhas, overgrown waterways, swamps, razor grass and deep mud. I also have to avoid Peruvian goldminers which have expanded to take up most of the Mother of God River. They are claiming plots and are now threatening any intruders with shotguns and wearing masks. For these reasons I have to choose my route carefully as my life depends on it. I'm also on the search for unspoiled wildlife and find it! I encounter various species most which are specific to lower jungle elevations such as tapirs, caimans, black skimmers, roseate spoonbills, kites, caracaras, parrots, kingfishers, taricaya turtles, squirrel monkeys, hoatzins, wattled jacanas and flycatchers.
To the tune of Man vs Wild, Alone and Naked and Afraid this is a movie I made alone without the aid of a camera crew or production. I set up the shots by myself and film as I go. There is no script and no planning beforehand. The animals show themselves when they feel like it and I try to capture it.
In addition to looking for and finding the perfect canal I find a lost oxbow lake! Oxbow lakes are the jungle's hotspots for wildlife where concentrations of animals prefer to live. Oxbow lakes are formed when a section of river becomes isolated after finding a new route around a bend of the river.
This is an educational adventure and survival video showing you that the Amazon is not as dangerous as the movies portray. Animals are scared of other animals and very scared of humans. This video shows you that a solo trip can be done and how to do it when dealing with other people, possible situations when one can get hurt, how to hammock camp and how to handle any wild animals and what the threats are.
In the style of the Discovery Channel I created this video to be more like a TV show with music and voice over techniques. There is also some scientific information about the forest animal species, river and weather characteristics. It also shows a little bit about the psychology and mindset of a person on a solo trip and mental state after a few days of being alone.
If you're looking for a true adventure through seemingly dangerous territory then this movie is for you.
The video begins in the gold mining town of Boca Colorado and continues down the Mother of God River to Pacal, CICRA (Los Amigos Biological Station) to Huitoto to J's Lake" and finally ends in another gold mining town called Laberinto.
Happy exploring and be safe!

That was impressive! It is hard to imagine someone having such a lifetime trip and doing it solo 😮. I only wonder how much courage does it require and preparation. As well, raft looks solid if you managed to get through all the water flora, in the begging it seemed that it's not going to survive so many obstacles, but oh well my rookie misconception. All the respect, keep up the good content!👏 👍
@IncanExpeditions
@IncanExpeditions 4 года назад
Thanks! Although these rafts look like pool toys they are made for rivers, whitewater and scraping rocks etc. I would not attempt a multiple day solo trip if I wasn't familiar with what I was getting into. It is good to be a little scared to keep you on your toes. If you are not scared at all then there is something wrong. Thanks for watching!

I have lived here in the area of the video for 15 years and even for a year right on one of those oxbow lakes he passed by. I can tell you the guy has brass B****. Those little canals and creeks and swampy areas on the edge of the lakes have anacondas 6" in diameter when their stomach is empty. Deeper in the woods they are bigger. Additionally there are many other things that can hurt or kill you (falling trees, stingrays, electric eels, ocelots, vipers and othe venomos snakes, getting lost, etc.) I have known or heard of people getting killed or injured by all of those things listed. Curiously, the ocelot is a much smaller cat than a jaguar or puma but I nave never heard of someone being attacked by the later but one neighbor had an ocelot attack their teenage child and it almost killed them. The kid had to kill the ocelot with his bare hands. My 13 year old at the time had a croc jump and bite at him at the edge of a lake but missed. Another child of a neighbor their child was killed by an electric eel. My cook got bitten by a viper and was in serious condition, I got hit by a tree in the head and now have a big scar, a couple months ago a younster was swiming with friends at a local place on the river and just disappeared and drowned right where they were without any struggle...probably was an eel or stingray. I watched as one of my workers had a tree fall on him and almost crushed him to death. I go places like that all the time...but never alone.

I've thought about this. I did get excited once over some pyrite once in the Yanatile Valley. If I do bring a pan it'll have to be plastic for the weight, but it's doable. I am more focused on getting from A to B because I'm looking for new tour routes. If you look at satellite images of this specific area in the video you can see how picked over it is compared to the reserve which is south of the Interoceanic Highway. Thank you for watching and for your suggestions. I could use a nice nug right now. :)

Hi, nice video! May I ask what brand tarp and hammock you use and advise for a trip to the Amazon?
@IncanExpeditions
@IncanExpeditions 2 года назад
The majority of my tarps are just generic brands on Ebay and Amazon. A few are from "Blue Stone". Just make sure it's at least 3m (9-10ft), not too heavy and it has at least 8 loops for tying down. I use a Superlight DD tarp for hiking. For the hammock any nylon hammock is fine so buy a cheap one and see if you like it. Make sure it has two zippers on the door. Make sure it's not heavy. The Hennessey Hammock is way too heavy.

my favourite expedition on RU-vid by far! I hope to do this one day is my home town. koombooloomba state forest and make my way down to the coast whilst avoiding Estuarine Crocodiles. The tropics here are 226km away from the Daintree river with very similar vegetation. I love your knowledge and you're very inspirational. did you say that you're using a map, and a gps?
@IncanExpeditions
@IncanExpeditions 2 года назад
Thanks! Yes, I bring a GPS most of the time. The bad news is that Garmin discontinued "Birdseye" and is now calling it "Birdseye Direct" which means my device is now obsolete for getting new satellite imagery. For me this is key for an always changing river. This past year I just saw a new oxbow lake formed in this area! The good news is that the new Birdseye Direct doesn't require a yearly subscription which was $30 per year. I have a GPSMAP 78S marine but will now have to buy a new thing. Thanks for watching.
