My Class read Change Sings when it came out. Amanda Gorman is such a gifted poet and the students could relate to her message. I love Eyes that Kiss in the Corners.

Thank you for sharing the books. I work in an diverse school district and all of these books are great. I work with middle school life skills students so I am always looking for diverse books that will explain and help them understand all the differences they see.

Great suggestions. I love The Proudest Blue! Islandborn by Junot Diaz is a great addition to a classroom library.

I enjoyed reading about the friendship of Jackie Robinson and Pee Wee Reese in Teammates, how both were courageous to show to the world that love and respect can help forge wonderful friendships!

Thank you for the diverse books recommendations! I have used The Proudest Blue and How Baseball Saved Us (It’s also one of the first books I purchased for my classroom as well.) with my 5th graders. After watching your video, I’d also like to pick up copies of the other 3 books!

Thank you for your recommendations. Last year I read, “I am Enough” by Grace Byers. I like it because I want my students to know they are enough no matter what.

I try to read "Songs of Shiprock Fair" by Luci Tapahanso because we have many students who are Navajo in our school district and I want our students to learn about their culture from an author and illustrator who have done a beautiful job explaining it. It is a bit difficult for young readers to get through, so I typically do it as a read aloud.

Thanks for sharing these book ideas. I did a book study on The Proudest Blue! My recommendation is I Promise by LeBron James. I'm recommending this book because I took a chance reading it for the first time. I'm not especially a fan of the author as a basketball player, but I read the book and bought it from our school book fair because it teaches about growth mindset and always being and doing our best!!

My very, very favorite is Ruby Bridges by Robert Coles. More to the present I love The Miracle of Monterrey by William Winokur which is a book about a little league baseball team from Mexico that makes it to the U.S. Little League World Series. We are also reading the novel Esperanza Rising in class and that touches on a lot of what is happening right now with immigrants. Thank you for sharing your titles!
