For noise reduction, I highly recommend the KZ ZST IEMs with Comply memory foam tips. The sound is great and the reduction seems even. ZST's are about $20 and a knockoff 12 pack of foam tips is $8. I love mine!

I should've put these ideas to market when I when in my 20s.😂 I had some of these ideas back in the 1990s, and now they're all being used regularly. I'm sure I'm not the only professional drummer who's thought of these alternatives years ago. Whatever the case, these are great ideas and are extremely simple and cheap. Thanks for putting this out there for the next generation to discover. 👍

Dog tag chains can be found in 50 cent gumball machines make excellent sizzles! Military helmet pads “Nape and side” gell pads are doubles of 5 diff sizes for $13! 3M foam or rubber double sided tape works great aswell! One is denser than the other! Both make great cymbal mutes too,especially if you want a dry sound out of a cheap brass cymbal!

nice ideas.... i use thrift store video game drum pads as practice pads. this rock band thing came with a stand and 4 pads...for 20 bucks ( although i did modify it to make it a little taller, and i also took the angle out of the pads to make it level ).
@michaelrobenalt5193

I used to use the printer paper on snare technique he mentions but I'd recommend a paper towel for the snare instead. You'll shred a hole in the middle of it soon enough, which will allow you to keep the stick/skin control that you'd have on your regular head, but still muting the overtones like the paper/drum head would.

A couple of bottles lids on your stickbag help a lot when you face a cymbal stand with no wing nuts. Just make a small hole in the middle and forget there. Could save your expensive cymbal in a gig.

I tend to use a paper notepad instead of a normal drum pad. I've found that if I put it on harder surfaces, I get more rebound and on softer surfaces I get less bounce if I want to practice finger technique and control etc.

Don't throw out old drumhead hoops! You can sew up some screen mesh heads that are super quiet and still feel like real heads. I like mine for practicing in the basement after the kids are asleep.
@thomasmccann8008
@thomasmccann8008 5 лет назад
A.J. Wilkes how did you make it?
@a.j.wilkes6352
@a.j.wilkes6352 5 лет назад
@@thomasmccann8008 Search for "DIY mesh heads." I was looking for a quieter practice pad and came across this idea. To make one you cut off the old drum head from the hoop. Cut a circle from a roll of extra-strength window screen about one inch larger than the hoop. Then fold and sew the edge around the hoop. Don't pull the screen head too tight while sewing otherwise it will be too hard to get the rim back on the drum. And I've been happy with only one layer of screen. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AkvQHPB-wlk.html
@Buck_Fiden658
@Buck_Fiden658 5 лет назад
You can also use old heads if you have them. Cut the rim off if you like. You can also cut circles out of them and make several. Like a floor tom with several cut outs will work for your smaller drums.
@madmaxx010

Been doing a few of these for years...Another cheap dampening trick is the Sticky Hands that are sold in gumball machines for 50-75 cents. I cut the fingers off for the rack Tom's and use the palm on my floor tom... then you can store them back in the little plastic bubble they came in.
