When we experience loss, sometimes we feel compelled to change everything immediately, hoping it will alleviate some of the pain. What I have found for myself, and through conversations with others in similar situations, is that it’s good to create a little space to allow your mind to settle before making any major decisions. For whatever reason, when we experience loss, our minds aren't functioning as they normally do. Five "don'ts" that were helpful for me were:
1. Don’t rush into remarriage.
2. Don’t dispose of her belongings.
3. Don’t quit my job.
4. Don’t hastily sell my house.
5. Don’t make impulsive, expensive purchases that I might later regret.
