Just flew my DJI Mavic Air 2 today. It's a long way from where I am to where you are Jake. I appreciate your enthusiasm as much, if not more, than any other youtube videos I've seen. Maybe because I appreciate the remote places you film, and how unique your videos are. Anyway, paid for some training today, and let's see where it goes. I have always loved flying. No matter what this will be fun.
hello Jake Sloan, My close friends is a family up in Whitehorse Yukon territories, Canada. Mr & Mrs. Sloan. Mrs. Sloan was also my high school teacher.
thank you very much. Not all of my videos are about drones specifically but they almost all have some fantastic drone footage of Alaska in them! Cheers
Hey Jake! I am enjoying watching your videos and excited to get these tips and tricks in practice. Just got my first drone last week and flew it yesterday for the first time. Actually your my first page that I've subscribed to as well! Got the Mavic Air 2S and looking forward to some great times, pics and videos. Thanks for what you do!
Great advice, I love the shots. Can I just say, when your putting yourself in the shot SMILE. It was confusing seeing the deadpan face at the start. The fatal attraction phenomenon is the most perplexing thing. The drones I built over a decade ago did this and DJI drones I have are the same. It's barometer priority part of the code. However I'm sure DJI picked up on it.
I had taken 3-year college courses in photography and presently I am taking a year of Graphic Design which will lead to receiving a diploma. which will be a big help when I am doing my RU-vid Channel.
Great information! Thanks so much! It’s fun to see the progress of myself and others as we learn more types of shots and get more comfortable with our sticks. Some of my first few videos are quite embarrassing lol I still have a lot of work/learning to do. But we all gotta start from somewhere!
What would you do if you crashed your drone. I just bought the Skydio 2, and I used Traverse Insurance to insure it for $2000. Would you have a different approach on how to insure a drone?
'Nother great instructional video. I have a dumb question, due to weather keeping me from finding out for myself, but somewhere I heard that the intelligent flight modes will only track people and vehicles. My question is; can you lock onto a building and then orbit or fly around it keeping it in the center. I don't have the skill to do that and don't want to waste a trip. Memphis has a pyramid which is lit up at night as well as a bridge across the Mississippi River near it which is also lit. I believe it would make a great video, but want to get something better than I could do without help.
Jake that was fantastic so many great tips I’m going to be using this video all the time Jake in need to get a little video player with your tips on it so i can play it when i need it in the field. Thanks Again my Friend Bye for now. Have a great week and be safe
How do you get really close, like a few feet, above water when you are on a hill and the drone is out of your sight? It seems my Mavic Air 2 only shows the height from where it took off and does not show you the height over the water once you try and lower it down close to the water...Thanks for any help here!
I watch the drone as I fly down and when I see the drone begin to disturb the water (the wind from the drone props) I know I’m as close as I want to get!
Here is a tip I use. When practicing a difficult maneuver I use my Mavic mini. It’s fantastic for practicing. And if it goes awry it’s just a mini with a refresh program.
I usually record nothing but garbage - so bad that I can't bear to watch my own stuff. After watching this vid several times, I went out and spent the day and night on the Black Rock playa (think Burning Man) and recorded 32 GB of footage. I still recorded some garbage, but every clip has at least one savable sequence in it, thanks to you and your instruction. Now to see if I can piece all the good stuff together and make something enjoyable. Thank you again!
You can unless there is anything moving in the video (trees blowing in the wind, water etc) if you reverse it then people will notice that looks unnatural really quickly. Cheers!
on a pull back couldnt you just fly in then just rewind the footage? or would it look funny? im new at the all of this and was just thinking maybe that it would be safer while also achieving the same outcome? ps when i try it either direction it looks horrible so i have alot of practice to do before i could give any input
Was thinking the same thing, in your sample videos there is no movement that couldn't have been reversed, so nobody would know if you filmed the shots going forward, which is obviously much easier since you can see where you're going in the camera.
The sinking phenomena when flying low to the ground is caused by the Venturi effect. All of the air that the drone is generating in a downward force must escape the area somehow but is blocked by the ground. In short, air moves faster under the drone causing lower pressure beneath the drone and the ground. The lower pressure causes the drone to "sink."
So how do you calculate the "sink", especially when you want to fly close or just a couple feet above a river or any water source...and when you are doing this blindly and the drone is out of your sight?
@@JQUICK21 DJI says to not fly lower than 1 meter (roughly three feet) to avoid the sinking phenomenon. Not having clear LOS always makes me nervous but sometimes getting that amazing shot is worth the risk. However, three feet above the surface will still yield an amazing shot in most cases. Fly safe!
@@JakeSloan Yes, have a DJI Spark. Fixing up a van right now for a trip out west mainly New Mexico and the Rockies doing a series with it and will upgrade to a Mavic 2 (Hasselblad) when funds become available. In Missouri now and moving out there. Expecting to spend 6 months to a year looking, Vloging and living in the van.
@Jakes, I just scribed to you. I want to ask you to make a video or tell me how you get around the rule about regulation on prohibition on flying over provincial parks? Do you have issues with rangers? Please reply to me on message if here in comments.
I do not fly where it is prohibited, in the USA (where I am) that includes National Parks and Wildlife Preserves. I don't recommend trying to fly places where it is not legal. Cheers!
They need to add Siri to these drones!....Voice control!....So you can ride your bike or Kayak or jet ski and tell the drone come closer....hover in one spot.....pull back.....zoom in.....circle me closely.....circle me from a hundred feet.....fly up to 500 ft high.....etc.
Thanks Jake, great info. Since you and Ken promote each other I guess it's okay if I link to one of his videos? He did a whole tutorial on flying backwards through objects and he had a special guest which might be the guy you mentioned ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8lkHwQCGv-E.html
