Real Rap With The Reynolds I made a video with my fifth graders. I was in the classroom, teaching them like a regular day. I received consent to record them, but I look back on the video, and one of my kids is in the front row, right in front of my iPad camera, smiling and waving to the camera. So adorable. (They knew they'd be lowkey famous, so they hammed it up). 😂😂😂
Ye, my first initial is C, so I go by this pseudonym online, college baseball team use to call me by this name too, minus the "ert" - & I'm from the great state of California! Yeehaw
More ideas please!!! I had a moment where my lesson plan ended early and I had a mini heart attack not exactly sure what to do. Oh the joys of first year teaching. 😂
That still happens to me, especially when the internet goes out or my computer isn't working properly. It comes in really handy to have a few fun ideas in your back pocket. Sporkle is fantastic. There are fun quizzes on everything. Second year of teaching is infinitely better. Please let me know if I can help with anything!
A veteran teacher recommend word searches or word finds for when I was a substitute! Kids love them. Haven't tried them out with the older kids but the elementary age students seemed to always be excited. I always keep them handy now since they're great if lessons finish earlier than expected. You can also be creative and choose seasonal ones or characters kids like. I recently did Dr. Suesss in March and it was a hit!
Love your energy with you kids. I’m 22 years in and running outta steam. You’re an inspiration to the youth and us old folks. Thanks for your dedication to them and to us.
youve got a new subscriber! came here from pocketful of primary. i am teaching high school and there just aren't that many of us in this youtube space. I am loving these activity ideas! Definitely going to implement them in my class next school year
+Real Rap With The Reynolds I want to know how to prepare for the program.I am at the infancy stage.just starting to take classes, not at student teaching yet but you teachers are amazing. I want in!!
Love all of these ideas. My favorite activity for the end of class is Silent Ball. Students sit on top of their desks and throw a ball around the room. They're out if they drop the ball or they make any noises. Kids seem to really love it.
I just recently decided that I wanted to be a highschool teacher (I'm a junior in college) and I love these videos!! I love coming up with ideas for the future with the hope of having a fun classroom (-:
Thank you so much for making these videos. Last year was my first year teaching in the classroom (I started teaching in the pandemic... so I started teaching via zoom...). I almost gave up last year because of how difficult things got for me. Part of it was my own lack of classroom management. Your videos are really helping me brainstorm and prepare for this coming year.
This is so perfect!!!! Sometimes we end up with spare time because some lessons don’t take the kids very long. Thank you!!!!! So perfect and I would have so much fun!! (For my kids final I made them be A T Rex and complete activities lol ) they had already had their EOC so I needed a science activity. It was hilarious and fun.
SIIIIIR I'M IN COLLEGE! YOUR VLOG GONE BE A HUUUUGE HIT IN ONE YEAR !!!!!!! JUST NEVER EVER QUIT, OR SKIP ONE SINGLE DAY OR WEEK I GUARANTEE THIS IS GONE BE HUUUGEEEEE. I JUST FOLLOW YOUR ACCOUNT !!!!! LOVE YA
+Paul Oyane thanks Paul! I'm going to be going hard all summer. My students and I will be meeting up over the summer months and doing trips. I have tons planned. Thanks for the love!
I used Sporcle for my class right before we went to lunch, and it worked wonders. I love using these activities to fill that little gap of time before class is over. It keeps me from getting frustrated when kids are talking because they have nothing left to do.
One game I love to do with my kids is, man I forget what it's called, but the last letter game. Pick a word, and the students have to go around and say a word that starts with the last letter of the previous. Tiger rabbit turtle elephant ect. You can set it to topics to, or parts of speech - as you would imagine, it gets pretty hard and you run out of E words pretty fast. When that happens, and no one in the class can think of a word with that letter, I just put an X over it and use the second to last letter. With my TEFL kids, it makes them think really hard about all the words that they've learned, and also the spelling of them. You can do a sort of around-the-world thing with the kids, where if they can't think of a word, they're out, and it becomes a last kid standing kinda thing. By kids have a weird combination of absolutely loving and friggen hating this game. So of course we play it all the time. :o)
I know you put this video up in May but I just saw it now in my recommended, I loved the weird picture idea and Sporkle, I had never heard of that one before! I really like your content, I'm currently training to be a secondary school English and Religious Education teacher here in Ireland and love seeing how people teach in different countries! Keep up the great content!
A suspect it's for you and the kids. Who wouldn't want to flip whiteboard markers onto the whiteboard ledge. It's good to have a few things you can do in the last few minutes of a lesson.
Yes please make more! I'm frequently faced with the problem - what if some of the kids finish an assignment and have to wait for the others? And also, when I'm teaching online, what activities could I do, since obviously all the "group" or movement activities aren't right?
I started subbing this year. I found you a few months ago over the summer when I was looking for advice for teacher job interviews as I'm hoping to turn this into a career. Since I started subbing my biggest pet peeve has become the touching. You are not wrong. These kids are always touching each other and play fighting. I don't remember that from when I was in school but I'm sure it happened. It's funny the things you notice when you are in charge of a classroom that you never noticed when you were a student yourself. 😂
I love those floating book shelves so much! I need to watch some RU-vid videos about drilling into concrete walls... I have a subscription to Flocabulary and my kids love voting on (screaming out suggestions for) a video to watch if we have a few minutes left 😉
+toocoolformiddleschool blog Those shelves are one of my favorite things in my room. I built them a few years ago. The school was buying bookshelves for the teachers and I asked if I could have cash to make my own. Someone suggested flocabulaty to me at the end of the school year. I'll check it out. Thanks!
THANK YOU FOR THIS!! I just started working for the YMCA, I do y care (before and after school care at an elementary school) we have some awkward breaks definitely, I modified the marker game for our cafeteria. Thanks!
Another great one: put a quarter on the white board, up high. Let it slide down. If student can stop it with their nose before it hits the ledge, they keep the quarter (or some other prize). I have to get a talk kid to run the game, as I am barely 5’1” and can’t reach above most my students’ heads, lol! They LOVE this game!
Thank uu!! My lesson ran so short and i had 30 minutes left i had no idea what to do, so i just gave them bunch of exercises to do in class and correct them tgt
This is the absolute best! I am so happy I found your channel yesterday! Your kids are total hams - I love it! I'm a middle school drama teacher and I'm willing to bet they would love quick improv games to finish out the class period too! You clearly have an amazing relationship with them - do you have any videos on your classroom management style? Thanks!
My guys are total hams! Haha! I've never done improv games. That's a great idea. Where could I go to find some good examples? I do have a classroom management video. I'm going to make one over the summer as well that will focus on some more unorthodox approaches I use. Have a great weekend!
Reynolds, I really enjoy your videos and all the insight. I am a retired cop starting to teach Social Studies in a high risk junior high school. We aren’t as big as your town (in Colo Spgs, CO) but we face a lot of similar issues I think. Student in Homeless situations, gangs, single parents, absent parents, etc.... I love your game ideas to create a fun atmosphere not seen in most classrooms. I’d like to no more of them please. Also wondering what you would says is one piece of advice you can give to be relevant, not popular with this group. I don’t want to be just another teacher trying to appear like I care, I really do and want to create the atmosphere of trust and belonging. Best Regards Brian in Colorado.
If you notice he has attention and control over an all boy class age 14 through 16 ish that is impossible in a co ed class. Coed education is more damaging to young boys than 15 hours of screen time a day
Miko Santos "Bus Stop" is super easy and you just need three chairs facing the desks. One person sits in the middle while the other person exhibits annoying qualities and behaviors until the original person moves down/and eventually off of the bus stop. I have a thousand of them up my sleeve if you want more!
Just found your vids from your classroom tour and subscribed before vid was over. Officially obssessed. love your ideas! I've had students draw a summary of whatever the lesson was that day so can't wait to use funny pictures.
+Karen Sanchez the pics are hilarious!! If everyone is on point, I go through all of them at the end of the test. Thanks for the compliments! It really makes my day!
One of the best teacher I have ever met. Thank u soo much for this video sir. I would like to implement some of ur ideas and tricks in my class too. Lots of love from India.....
Thanks for sharing! You're awesome! I got some ideas of my own developing while I'm watching you. Thanks for your funny and interesting videos! I love it!
Real Rap With The Reynolds Thanks! Can't ever find a keychain with my name on it though, lol!!! My 10 yr old daughter loves you too and thinks you're cool! She says "Hi!" too!
+Virshone Brinkley Sproles tell her I said thank you. My son is named Brody and my daughter Marley. We always laugh that they can't find keychains too😂😂
I've watched a few of your videos featuring your students , and I've noticed there's only boys , are you in an all boy school ? I'm notorious for running short with my lessons, thank you for these great ideas !
hello there, I'm from the Philippines planning to teach there in US but have anxiety if the students have high regard to their teachers specially foreign teachers. thanks for your advise in advance
Any music ed. folks weighing in? I am back in school earning my cert. and I would love some ideas for those awkward gaps at the end of class that apply to a band/choir/or general music class.
I'm a English teacher to foreign students, and although it might not be related to the topic as a time filler game I sometimes play music from famous films and they have to guess the film title , in English not their own native language , of course (extra points for guessing the title of the song and older students get even more points if they guess the character singing) it's a quick game because there are already many videos on RU-vid with songs ready or you can make a short playlist. With older students you can also try TV show theme songs.
I have done an activity in the past, where I play a piece of music and the kids draw the story that they think the music is telling. Best with instrumental type pieces. I did it when I was teaching more Literature/Writing type subjects. It's great when the kids can then share what they thought... (an idea taken from the book "Going Bohemian: How to Teach Writing Like You Mean It")
I like your style. I can relate to it. I think I am similar. I’d love some advice new to middle school English, teaching all girls classes. My goal is to improve in behavior management. Coming from primary so it’s an adjustment.🙏🏼How can I reach you?
+Angelica Quintana I something similar, I didn't go thru my whole library but I did a video on a new book order I received for the classroom. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-T5FG43o_Gxg.html enjoy 😊
I think I should just record videos and pretend I’m going to upload them to my RU-vid channel, maybe then they’ll be on their best behavior like your students. 😬😬
I'm teaching 5 to 9 grade students computer science and there are atleast 50 students in one class .... I don't know how to control them they are all girls and they talk too much and misbehave too.... I don't have a very loud voice and I'm an introvert too so this job is really hard for me :(
Love these ideas. Sporcle! I've never heard of it before but will try it out. I don't want to yuck your yum here but be cautious of asking non-Indigenous or non-Wiccan students to identify their "spirit animal." Many Indigenous, Wiccan or animist people may consider this cultural appropriation. Chat me up if you want more information. Cheers.
Don’t know if you’ll see this, CJ, but agree on this one. Asking non-Indigenous kiddos to identify their spirit animal is cultural appropriation, even though we did it in scouting as kids.
