Have u ever used oxtail soup in ur stews? Its what my mum saways used, and I've continued. Tried other gravies, but always go back2 oxtail soup! I buy the tesco own brand cans. Love them
Oohh ok I am going to try that next time.. thanks for the tip.. I’ve never tried it before.. can I take other ingredients out if I use that or is that just instead of the stock? Xxx
@@KerryWhelpdale I just simner the meat, 🥕🌰 celery and leek together in a light beef stock with worcester sauce. I add the soup when its about 3/4 done and simmer. The soup is quite concentrated, so needs less time. U might need to lighten it2 taste with water also. Its really just trial snd error and ur familys taste. I normally add in frozen peas for last 5 mins also!
I've always used oxtail soup in my stew and dumplings - my mum did it, and her mother before her. I just dump the meat, sliced carrot, leeks, onions, celery, turnip and potatoes into the pot, 1 can of oxtail soup, and enough water to cover. Stir all together and then cook until the meat is tender. We have it once a week in winter.
@@gillianrimmer7733 yes love it too apart from turnip I dint use altho I do like it mashed. I tried stew in slow cooker but for some reason it always turns out TOO rich or intense I can't explain it but none of the family like itm otherwise my method is virtually identical to yours except I add in a fair whack of Worcestershire sauce when simmering and I boil or steam my potatos separately. Love it in winter
@@sapphire22011, you should try adding potatoes into the stew rather than cooking them separately - they absorb a lot of the flavour and make it less 'intense'. If cooking in the slow cooker, I add them halfway through cooking to stop them disintegrating before it's cooked.
I agree, I do this and it really works! Before I was put off as didn’t like the water consistency but doing this made me fall in love with my slow cooker!
I’m in Ireland and just saw this video I LOVE all five recipes especially the cod curry one which I’d never have thought of. Definitely going to try them all. 😋 Happy New Year to you and the family 🎄🎅🎄🎅
I'm going to try your recipes in my Phillips one pot, but I'll sear the meat, and sweat the mirepoix before switching machine to slow cook. I'll also put in only enough liquid to just almost cover the contents. Either that, or I'll remove the meat and veggies and turn the machine onto the saute/sear function and reduce the liquid til it's thickened up to my liking. But overall good ideas. Thanks.
for the beef stew if you brown your meat first you can then saute your vegetables in the pan after the meat and it absorbs all that goodnesss on your pan and helps clean it to lol onion a a great cleaner 🙂
@@KerryWhelpdale 3 tbsp paprika 2 tbsp brown sugar 1/4 tsp Cayenne pepper 1 tsp salt 1 tsp pepper ^ mix in a bowl and rub into ribs with your hands 3-4 lbs pork baby back ribs (the ribs in your video would work too) we leave ours together and not cut up, as much as you can still fit them in the pot. 1 32oz jar bbq sauce. I’d recommend finding Sweet Baby Ray’s or Bone Suckin’ Sauce on Amazon. Sauce makes a difference!! After putting rub on ribs place in slow cooker. Dump sauce on top and cook on low in slow cooker for 7 hours. I’d love to see a southern US cooking video!! Would be so cool
Hi Kerry. Love the videos on the slow cooker recipes and the Air fryer. Please keep em coming! One question; Do you preheat your slow cooker for any of the recipes? Many thanks. 👍😎
Haha no not at all.. the boys love playing loads of other games too.. we have so many board games and they also LOVE to watch Catch Phrase and The Chase in TV too (they are way too old for their age 😂😂) it’s just device time during the week we like to limit or they become quite obsessed with it!!! Xxx
Thank you Kerry, wasn’t sure if you’d post today so I’m thrilled! Going to make your turkey curry recipe today for the freezer, just writing my list and now your delicious chocolate peanut cake too! 👏😋xxx
Helpful video for students just like me. I have only a rice cooker and a slow cooker in my hostel. Thank you so much for excellent content. If you can please include dishes using rice cooker also 😊😊
Enjoying your recipes!!! I'm in the USA and I've never heard of red wine stock cubes, I'd like to try them, wonder if I can order online. We have stock, and boullion cubes and better than bouillon which is good.. Thank you for sharing
I know red wine stock cubes are also new to me and they are just brilliant :) see if you can find them in the supermarkets as they aren’t advertised which they really should be :) xxx
I used to be into crock pot cooking big time. I have several, including a triple, which I will be using with these recipes. I love that one of them is a dessert because it's sometimes difficult to think of three main dishes you want to make at the same time. I'm thinking ribs, mac and cheese, and the dessert. I haven't used my crocks since I got my Instant Pot and only used my triple crock once.
Hi Kerry, your food looks amazing ,I have recently been living on my own and started to cook quite a bit,so was browsing for some ideas ,i have bought myself a 1.5litre breville slow cooker and want to start making stews ,i was just wondering how much to put in lol ,so how big is your pot please and i will get my brain working to do some maths to get the right amount..ty keep up the good work, cheers steve..x
So glad you like the look of these meals :) I literally fill my pot up to the top and I have a 5.5litre pot :) it’s great then for loads of leftovers :) xxx
@@KerryWhelpdale ok ty i'll divide all your ingredients by 3.5..( i think) lol..ty for quick response 5.5 litre divided by 3.5 = 1.57 litre ...that'll do *)..xx
Thanks for the video!! After I have loved your air fryer ones I reckon I'll jump into this asap. Just one question, is there a difference between the slow cooker and just using a normal pot boiling really slow for the same amount of time????. Congrats for your videos, and I have to tell you, as a non native English speaker living north London, your way to speak and accent are an absolute delight to listen to.
Hi, loving your work! Just a heads up 'cos your link to your Prestige Pressure Cooker is redundant as it's out of stock, (Don't worry, I have my own, just checking it out for professional reasons)
Thanks. Really enjoyed the video. Just one thing though, in the ribs recipe in the description, there is no vegetable stock and you write chilli garlic sauce. Is it the same as sweet roasted garlic puree you show in the video?
Thanks for this I will be making a few things but 1st stop is short ribs🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽. Where did u buy the roasted garlic paste as looks right up my street. I'm a new sub from Emily's channel. You both sound similar at times
This is a great video. Just a quick question. Did you put the cod straight in for dish two without any kind of pre-cooking them. Was that a frozen packet also?
I've found there's no need to Brown off any mice or beef chunks or veg onions garlic ect, just put some oil in the slow cooker on high for 30 mins then put the veg / meet in for another 20 mins before adding any stock ... comes out the same 😁
Unlike traditional methods, with a slow cooker the steam just condenses on the lid and turns back into water and drips back into the dish. You can thicken *most* dishes with some corn starch (corn flour and a little water mixed into a paste) around 30 minutes before your dish is finished.
