Hey Melissa, I love your videos. I'd love to see some videos on the Konmari method of decluttering! I have been working my way through it for a month or 2 and it has literally changed my life!
I wouldn't mind seeing this either because I do NOT like her method! Especially when it comes to books. I think she is ridiculous!! I am sure Melissa that you can come up with a medium/reasonable path that does not require those of us who actually read books to get rid of them. Although technically I can say they all bring me joy. :)
+Mary Gillmarten if they all bring you joy then you are allowed to keep every single one! There are no rules except to keep things that bring you joy or make your life easier.
+Mary Gillmarten ... Occasionally there are magazines with only one or two articles you are interested in and the rest is not important. So for those times, take what you need and don't keep what's not important. That's the whole point of decluttering. It's not about getting rid of an ENTIRE book that you love. I'm sure Melissa didn't imply that.
Uggg I been there I secretly threw away few things she didn't know I got rid of. Eventually she relized it was gone she asked if knew what happened I was like Im not sure what happened.

I've thought of doing this but haven't got around to doing it yet... Should start doing it, my PC content is much more orderly than my home, I'm sure I will find everything much more easily (whereas, papers and magazines I keep are almost impossible for me to find aftwerwards).

Every time I go to the nail or hair salon, I bring my old magazines. The owners appreciate it and so do the customers. I always use permanent marker to black out my address, for safety reasons.

Clutter for me happens essentially when I am super busy and stressed (as I've already done the first big declutter... it still comes back from time to time), so it's those moments that I find it really overwhelming to de-clutter. But I found a tip online that's helped me so much! When you don't have time for the "big de-clutter", do the "little at time de-clutter", i.e. when you go from one room to the other and you know certain items belong in the other, take those items (no more than 5!) and put them in their proper place when you get to the other room. That way it's a multitask sort of de-cluttering and takes only about a minute extra. It's definitely saved me from feeling overwhelmed on those stressful days, so it's probably my biggest tip for de-cluttering 'cus I know I'm not alone in this.
When your husband goes to work , smash a back window THEN . just throw it all the stuff away or whatever and when your husband comes home just say we've been burgled 😏😏 😁😁
Hi! Thanks for your helpful videos, however, my area of weakness that I could really use some help in dealing with piles and piles of clothes.......the organization process, etc. Having a hard time that....I also have tons of blankets and pillows that I don't need. Thanks!
6/16/19.....PLEASE take the bkankets & pillows to your local PetCo or PetsMart---or to the local shelter. They can also use old towels & sheets to make the rescues more comfy! If in doubt call a local vet & ask for info---or even a local groomer. You will be doing a wonderful thing for the animals! 🐶🐱🐦🐰
The decluttering videos are helpful.... I would love suggestions for a kids room and playroom. It's soooo hard to get them to give up toys, especially stuffed animals.
For kids that have a lot of toys, when they go for a sleepover at a friends house or something like that you often can get rid of a bunch of old toys and they'll never even notice. That is what my friend does with her son, granted he's 3 and doesn't keep track of all his toys. So this may not work for an older child. ^__^v Older kids, sometimes you can convince them to get rid of x amount of toys to get 1 new special toy or movie/ice cream/zoo/ect... Hope I helped! Now, I'd love to see a video about this too!! She always comes up with great methods! Gonna do the hanger idea now actually!!
When I was 4 I just can't throw stuff away, I'm 12 now and gave a lot of my stuffed animals to the daughter of a friend! I'm happy she's happy with it! ( please tell me my grammar mistakes I'm not English but Dutch and just 12)
My friend puts toys in a box, and puts it in the garage, dated, and if no one has asked for anything in the box within a certain number of months, it goes to the charity shop.
I had to go through my closet, due to me loosing 70 lbs! I gave the clothes away to places that help people that need to look for a job! All I did is start eating Organic all I can....fruits, veggies, butter, dairy.....It took 22 months, but I feel great!!!

I love this. But when you have to elderly hoarders in your home. This becomes a stressful fight, just by tossing out old mail or old grocery store bags..
LOL, why would anyone put magazine pages into a binder when we have scanners to archive everything digitally? You might even find a PDF of your magazine to download.

I heard a tip: don't have more than you want to pick up all at once. I like that. Otherwise, try putting half of it in bins and swapping it once a month.

Happy belated birthday! I'm all for more decluttering videos! Maybe some tips on how to keep bookshelves clutter free? (I'm a book lover and don't believ in the concept of ownin too many books, but the clutter is real!). And maybe tips on a clutter free move, meaning how to make sure you don't move the clutter along with the items you really want and need?
We've got a local book circle, we pass books around each other as were done with them and pop our initials on the inner cover so we know who's had n who's not. Once they're done and if no one wants to keep it they go to a charity store (usually where we get them too) but it means you get to read stuff you wouldn't pick up and it only costs a little if you add another in, which if you have a collection you don't mind letting fly for a while will barely cost anything for a long time.
I know for me when I have to move one apt. to another I start everything a month in advance maybe 2 months go room by room get rid of stuff, sell or plan just give away or donate unused items or items that are bad condition.This has helped me tremendously with my moving experience last year.
Melissa I wish you helped me lol. I have some school things, I did throw away a lot of stuff recently, but I recently decided that I don't want to become the major that I studied at college anymore, but I feel like my mind might change in the future. So should I save those old textbooks and notes? Help! Lol. And I've been dieting since March and lost weight, but I do have some clothing that I am not sure if I want to keep or throw out cause I will fit into them soon. Should I still keep it just incase?

I used to keep my old textbooks and notes in the basement, and love looking into them once in a while. And don't underestimate their value, maybe you'll have a kid/nephew/poor child that would find them useful when studying too
I got married two months ago and got tons of kitchen utensils..so when I open the drawers it's like 😝 , I had 5 sets of measuring spoons that I couldn't take back so I kept them all!! Thank you so much for this video its helped me alot, please make more! 💖
6/16/19....Congratulations on your getting married. I would pick out my FAVORITE 2 sets of measuring spoons to keep/use. Then I would put the other 3 sets in my "gift closet" & REGIFT them to friends/family....but make sure you DON'T give them tobthe person who gave them to you! That was you can save $$$ + pass along your nice new EXTRAS! But I WOULDN'T tell anyone b/c I don't want hurt feelings. 😳
I've seen that trick with putting your clothes hangers backwards and replacing them forwards as you wear an item. But what can you do about the clothes in drawers?
Fold your clothes inside out. When you wash them, put them in the drawers right side out. At the end of the season, the still inside out items get donated.
I fold my clothes vertically (filing method) and always put my washed clothes at the front. The least worn clothes end up at the back and can be passed on.
Ack, no to "Q" pons! Ain't no Q up in there! COO-pons! I need help decluttering all of the things. With regards to ad mail, we've implemented a system of keeping a small recycling bin near the mailbox. I sort through the mail and discard unwanted paper outside, so it never makes its way inside!
I have papers and books and folders from my recent college endeavor. What do I keep? What do I toss. I tried to pare it down to reference type items, but oy vey! So much stuff!

Social media would be a happier place without the negative remarks towards eachother's makeup and personal assets. I think she looks gorgeous now and also back in the day, I love dark brows, I love her cleaning tips and I love positivity, I'm sure anyone does. If you want to give advice about serious things (which doesn't include make up), do it personally and not in public, and do it with kindness and soft words. Lastly, make-up is all about personal preferences, if you see something you don't like, that's fine, if other people say you for yourself wear too little or too much make-up, don't listen to them, do what makes you happy, because that's all that matters. I follow many channels and I just don't understand why this is happening everywhere. More love, less hate, let a girl live :)

I was going to ask the same thing and add that ALWAYS remember for brunettes, eyebrows are 2 shades LIGHTER than hair color, NOT the same or darker than hair color!!
+(Jen) for some people it doesn't look good or they have naturally dark eyebrows that are darker or the same color as their hair. I have eyebrows that are darker than my hair so filling them in a lighter color doesn't match

6/16/19.....I had decided this weekend would be PAPER DECLUTTER time.....So went thru older/saved newspaper sections yesterday (Sat). Today is coupons/3 address books from the last 40 yrs/cut out mag & newspaper articles/old bank statements/business letters/ scraps of paper/business cards/Christmas & birthday cards/recipes. MOST will go into recycle bin but a few will end up in shredding pile. It's 10:30am & I have a fresh cup of coffee + timer set for 45 min.... then 15 min break....then another 45 min of declutter & so goes this Sun. Wish me good luck!
These are great Mel! I usually put things into a box, when it is full I close and write the date on the box, then I put the box in storage if I have not opened that box in months or a year I simply throw out the box. NOTE do not open the box or go through it, cause you will find reasons to keep it. Just throw it out still closed. I am going to try the hanger trick right now ... bye and thanks.
I have just begun going through stuff again that came to my house when we moved my dad in. My parents have been married for 75 years and all THEIR memorabilia is now in MY HOUSE. Tip : Scan the documents you want to save and shred it. No actual paperwork, just digital files which only take up virtual space. I think the app I use is Scan it, or you can just use your printer/scanner to save files.
Q-PON or COOPON ? You only have to look at the origin of the word. For any non-American, your Q-PON pronunciation would be incorrect and sounds distinctly wierd. Since it comes from the French '"couper" meaning to cut, it's correct pronunciation is 'coopon' (as you write it). Sorry for the pedantry !
I joined a local "buy nothing group", so when I declutter I just give my items to my neighbors. I've met some pretty awesome people that way and it's nice to know my items are going to a person or family that will enjoy them.
Hi Melissa! I appreciate your smile, positive videos and enthusiasm! Motivation on decluttering is why I turn to you! I have filled my home up for 30 years with new crafts, towels, sheets, collections and more! I also have the items that have been precious to my Mother ! At 92 strong all of her items are precious to me! I am working with your suggestions with all of these items! I now have a family "joke" going on that all of these items are Family Heirlooms! I say to my two daughters, daughter-in-law, son, two son-in-laws, 5 grandchildren! I start with " I have something special for you" and one son-in law says in his funny voice " I have saved this for 30 years for you". Everyone laughs so much! I wanted to suggest a video for you, a way to save/store/give away Family heirlooms!

I need help decluttering EVERYTHING. My family doesn't help out at all with cleaning, let alone throwing out old things. SOS! LAUNDRY ROOM/JUNK YARD I have a good sized Laundry room with oodles of space to utilize for pleasant laundry doings. I need help turning my junkyard/laundry into a organized space where I no longer dread sifting through mounds of endless dirty laundry (on the floor) searching for specific items to wash because we're out of towels or need work clothes done asap etc etc... I've also used it as a storage of junk I cant seen to part with....

My biggest decluttering dilemma is anything paper! Mail, important stuff like bills, event flyers, invitations - it never ends! Any clever ways to hang on to the important stuff so it won't be forgotten? And what to do with the stuff I'm working on now - but didn't finish because the phone rang, it was time to start dinner, or my dog wanted to play? Working from home means lots of interruptions, consequently, I become a stacker. Not good. Love your videos - you two are adorable! Yes please! More decluttering. What we need most decluttering help is probably garage. With 4 kids we have many hand-me-downs that we just can't get rid of, boxes of half-saved things, things we want to donate but can't - the goodwill won't take (for example a recliner?) etc. Though we have the mail buildup, the clothes buildup, and books we just can't get rid of too. Also though we do a 'sweep' of our kids toys, there always seems to be more. ;)
BUT I- I WANT TO KEEP ALL THESE MEMORIES.. I organize the clutter and whatever, but it still looks messy, so I decided I wanted to get rid of items. Once I got to it, I didn’t want to throw anything away because I either received them as gifts and it would be rude to throw it away, or I just cherish them.
The thing you didn't address in the bedroom, (I didn't realise how ambiguous that line was, Sorry) was, for some people 'getting rid' of 'stuff' is actually painful! I don't know why but knowing the tricks, tips and strategies:- 'Get Rid of it if you haven't worn it for a year'. 'Every Time You Buy A New Item, Remove An Old One' (sort of Item In/Item Out idea). Understanding what to do and doing it aren't always as easy as Natural Declutterers like yourself seem to think.
I bought your Clean My Space book. So thorough! After folding my clothes the KonMari method (with a few tweeks for my bigger cube baskets), doing the Spark Joy! categories, organizing with A-Z Storage Solutions, all I have left to do is to figure out how to put wall cabinets on my bedroom wall so I can place my big D-ring fitness notebooks there (above my desk). I need to buy my daughter the Clean My Space book also since it has short and long versions of touchups and charts in the back. Thanks for your simple organic cleaning recipes; I needed those. My daughter has homemade recipes for almost everything.

I say "cU-pons". And, I need help decluttering everywhere. I do it often, but results don't last. I find decluttering my kids rooms/ closets difficult. There are sentimental items they dont care about, and Mc Donald's toys they want to keep. It's all good. But, their choices would include throwing away all dress or new looking clothes and opting for drawers full of comfortable pjs and worn in clothes. LOL
How about a video of decluttering a SENIOR man's home including the logic and blueprint of what and how it's done. Seniors clutter because of low energy. disabilities or worse yet, depression. Tough project.
