I recommend making journaling more fun and positive by taking five to fifteen minutes journaling about good things that happened instead of the bad days it helps improve your mental health too📔

So, I'm not a bujo/journal writer and I certainly don't have the prettiest journal (although I consider it very special, because I made it myself by handbinding the signatures and drawing my own cover/backcover and guards patterns), but one thing that helps me fill my pages is doodling on them and just messing around when I feel like there's nothing much going on, like, my journal has some pages that's just me testing pens and highlighters, or simply gluing post-it notes and drawing random spirals or squiggly lines on them. It's not a big deal and certainly doesn't make my jounal look anywhere close to those of some people who dedicate their time and effort into making it look all aesthetically pleasing in order to post on social medias, but it looks very personal and fun to me.

I was always afraid of messing up my journals until I realized that my journal doesn’t have to be perfect. It is for me. Ever since that realization, journaling has come easier to me. I put practically anything in my journal. I write about my day, practice hand lettering, and tape in pictures and other things that I want to keep. I set aside a certain amount of time each day to journal. One way I made sure I’d keep up with my daily journaling is by setting a goal for myself. I recently completed the goal of writing everyday for 3 months, so as a reward I bought myself a BTS album. If you have a reward to entice yourself, it can make you want to journal more.

My tips: 1. You don't have to journal every day. 2. A quote, verse, or lyrics are also journaling- you usually pick one to jot down because it's speaking to you in some way. 3. You don't need every picture and piece of ephemera from a vacation to tell your story. 4.You don't need to stick to a decorative theme in your journal-if you tire of it halfway through, make a change! It's your journal. Conversely, if you want to decorate every page the same way (or not at all)-go for it - it's your journal.5. Don't be afraid of the blank page. If you do something you don't like, you can use pretty paper to cover it up or just leave it in its messy imperfection. 6. The sooner you use up a journal, the sooner you can get a new one!

I usually draw an illustration about what I want to say. Then just write around it as during the drawing of the image most of the story already materialized. Illustrations also help me find it later or at least work as a abreviation of the journal entry.

I’ve never had blank-page anxiety, but I have had first-page anxiety. The first page of a notebook is always so intimidating because it sets the tone or topic for the whole journal. I’ve learned to overcome journaling anxiety because really, all that matters is that you write something. If it’s just a journal for your feelings or whatever, that’s perfectly okay. All you need to do is write whatever you feel. Some entries of mine are 5 pages, others are 10 lines. It doesn’t matter the length or content, all that matters is that you wrote something down.

@fear the double bunny Do what artists do when they have first page anxiety for sketchbooks....take an idea from another artist such as havng a cover page with the sketchbook number, or just mess up the first page. Scribble on it, don't have a rhyme or reason just fill it. Though I hear positive quotes can be good...I think a nice uplifting quote or motiational quote might help with first journal page anxiety. [I usually just do a title page like a book has and that's good for me]

No, the first page doesn't set the tone for the whole book. Thinking that way causes anxiety. It's just a page and every page and can be completely different to what came before. See each page like a new day, anything can happen!

I write in three journals. One is strictly for my panic and anxiety attacks. One is more along the lines of a brain dump journal so I can make room in my brain for more stuff to dump. My third journal is where I write quotes, song lyrics, recipes, etc. I am art challenged and not so fond of washi tape or stickers so they are very plain.

@tired af I write whatever comes to my mind, if I want to curse someone I write it in my journal, if I want to express my feelings to someone, I turn to my journal and if I see or experience something new or worth mentioning, once again i write in my journal. It can get slightly intimidating when we come across people having aesthetic journal spreads with beautiful handwriting and adorable decorations and this in turn affects our interest to start journaling. This happens. The mantra is to JUST WRITE/DRAW/PASTE whatever you want to. As I said, it need not be perfect or anything but just a place where you can pour your mind in.

I end up opening my journal more when I literally feel like my head's full and jumbled up with thoughts. I don't use my journal as a planner or recorder or anything. I use it mostly to "untangle" my thoughts and ideas. Or map out what I have in mind, regardless of whether I'm going to act on them or just write then down and only imagine doing them. I use it as a reflection notebook and a little tracker too. I gave up on "bullet" journaling a long time ago since it just doesn't suit me and my lifestyle. I use it as a dump notebook/learning notebook basically 😂 just with a little more aesthetic to it. (And sometimes not at all)

I like to brand the notebook as mine and ready for writing by “ruining” before starting the first page. I bend the corners a bit, spill a bit of coffee/water on a page, or just throw it across the room. This keeps me from feeling like it’s too precious/beautiful for me to write in it. There is no ruining it if it already has character. Also, I am not afraid to end a notebook early based on life stages. Moved across the country: new journal. Or started a new job, got married, whatever was monumental enough to mark a new chapter in my life begins a new journal that suits the change.

Maybe you will feel more comfortable and inspired to write cause you are not blaming yourself for not making progress. Also, don't pressure yourself to write. Remember it should be a fun activity, not something you are chained to. Your diary will always be there waiting for you to trust your daily life once more, it won´t judge you for being lazy hahaha actually, you can write about how you are feeling about your laziness. I never could figure out what to do with washi tape, but now I know a thing: use it to tape off a boundary after finishing an entry. It can be used to divide a page into small entries without wasting a lots of diary dates. And it can focus your attention on a finite writing field. Even taping the borders of one page can limit your focus to only that page.

I really enjoyed this! As an avid journaler, one tip that has helped me a lot when I want to get away from the long-form journaling style is creating mind maps. I love these! It keeps my journaling practice going yet it feels a lot more dynamic than writing out my day in a traditional way. I put any topic at the center of the page, some examples are what I'm grateful for this week, things that I'm learning or what is present in my life right now (this one is my favorite), and I just draw, straight or squiggly coming out of the central theme and write all around the topic. I add color and images and do a lot of fun things with the lines.

When I was in middle school I kept a diary and was pretty consistent with it- then one day when I came home from school and my mom asked me a question about something she'd only know about if she'd read my diary. I found my diary on my desk (not where I'd left it), and immediately hid it in a box in the closet and never wrote in it again lmao.

I've been keeping a diary/journal since I was a kid and only now have been making an effort to make my entries more visual and aesthetically pleasing, if only for me. What I used to do in college was print out lyrics from songs I loved and paste them in the pages so I wouldn't have to copy them down by hand. These days, I love the deco papers I get from Yesstyle and the sticker flakes from Jetpens.

I've started journaling (for last few years) on loose leaf paper. It means I don't have the pressure to keep going and fill a book. I use it particularly when I have problems or something is bothering me in my life and just write out how I feel. Then I put the sheets in a ring binder. It's really interesting to look back and read what was going on in my life and what I was thinking and feeling about it at the time and how that might be different to my recollection.

I’ve been journaling every day for 51 yrs. What got me going was someone asked my opinion. I add whatever comes my way to make the pps interesting and attractive but I don’t worry about it, just fill. The main thing that gets written is my “stream of consciousness”. That way I never get writer’s block. I never leave it out so others are not tempted to trespass and my 438 volumes are now being held in the Archives of a local university. It’s such a good habit. I call it my mental health journey in writing. ❤️🥳🇨🇦🌷😀

An undated journal has been the way to go for me. No pressure to write every day and I can write as little or as much as I want to. If it takes me 6 months or 6 years to fill the journal up doesn’t really matter. Its the experience when I do write that counts. This year I opted for an A6 hobonichi notebook, I will most probably use it next year as well and that’s ok. Another thing it to always bring the journal with me, that way I can write when I get a time gap.

I took an old planner (Happy Planner) & used white out on the dates. I go in when I remember & when I am inspired. I draw (my stick figures lol), glue down beach parking passes/movie stubs/hotel receipts, or use text stickers to decorate. Then I write around them to remember how I felt about whatever it was that I put down. Sometimes I will write quotes & then explain why they are important, or make lists. It's a mix of commonplace & journal. It's what made most sense to me.

Three things that have helped me keep a steady journal habit. 1. Don't worry if you miss a day, or only write a sentence or too. (Some days an entry is a quote, a poem or a song lyric I want to remember.) 2. Keep the journal a low cost option. Spiral bound notebooks, composition books, notepads, and etc. Only important things is its a good paper for writing, and it is bound. 3. Dedicate a pen. I select one or two pens that stay with the journal. For my current journal I have a 0.7 mm black ballpoint, and the old school four colour ballpoint pens.

I started keeping a dream diary when I was 12. I was having nightmares and when we were talking to other parents during a popcorn selling program one of the teachers made us do an hour before school started we spoke of dreams we had. Somebody elses parent kept telling me to write my dreams down because I remembered them so well and to face the nightmares. I did, because dreams work on our problems and feel pressing. They aren't just random. It is your subconscious speaking to you the only way it knows how. Anyway, what is cool is that the adults spoke about haven taken dream workshops back then and as an adult looking to expand my dream deciphering I started reading books on dissecting dreams and came across Robert Moss. He lived by me back then and he used to host those workshops. Now he lives on the other side of the world.

I got pulled into the whole aesthetic BuJo thing a few years ago. I kept it for a while, but never finished 6 months. I wanted to get back into BuJo as some serious life changes necessitated a daily to-do list that was more than a small notepad. I ended up finding a nice planner that had monthly spreads, daily entries, and a list of boxes for daily tasks. I love this thing! Simple to use, just enough space to fill for daily journaling, ready made to do list for up to 10 items a day, it's made life and journaling a lot easier. It was predated though, so I had to wait to the beginning of this year to use it, but I'm still going strong after 3 months! No more aesthetic stuff for me, it just bogged me down with needless details.

Keep it fun. You're more likely to keep at if you're having fun and not dredding it. This might be with a daily prompt (you can find tons of lists online) accompanied by trackers, a space to draw in or add small pictures and trinkets, or fun pens and mildliners with stickers and washi tapes or sticky notes. Make your journal your own by customizing it. Whether you're drawing on the cover, adding stickers or a book mark, you can take more pride in it. You don't have to finish it in one go. Try to write every day. If your schedule is constantly changing from day to day, make it a goal to dedicate at least 15 minutes to your journal. You can keep it simple on days where you're short on tiime and be more elaborate on days where you have more time.

I love the idea of journaling but get so intimidated by a big blank sheet for sure. or even pretty stationery!! but at the same time, pretty stationery motivates me to use my supplies more lol. I think it helps to clarify what I want to fulfill with my journaling habit. am I tracking my progress on something? am I cultivating a habit of feeling gratitude? am I creating a diary that I can look back on? what is realistic for me based on my other responsibilities and amount of free time at this season of my life? and finally... what journaling style (or product lol) sparks the most joy and excitement? ❤️

I too was a serial notebook/journal abandoner. I have a stack of blank notebooks I've purchased over the years. I finally figured out what I needed: A diary with pre-printed year-months-days. This has given me the kick in the butt to write every day. I bought a 2024 AT-A-GLANCE Standard Diary and haven't missed a day since. At first I was taken aback by the high price, compared to blank journals I've purchased in the past, but it was totally worth it. For one, it is a very nicely constructed hardcover book with quality paper, and the pre-printed dates on each page have been been a huge help in motivating me to write each day because if I skip a day it's gone, unlike non-dated journals. Also, I was initially a little intimidated at writing a whole page everyday, but as it turns out I end up filling them easily. Most days I could write even more but having only one page has forced me to to be more concise. One more thing, I have tried many different pens and the best one I've found is a Pigma Micron 05. I find it perfect for writing in my diary. It's lines are not too thin or thick, the ink flows evenly, and best of all it never smears. As a cheaper alternative I would also recommend a Pilot G-2 07. Although it will smear much more easily than the Pigma Micron 05, it is a good inexpensive pen.

I used to journal in a Leuchtturm Master Slim notebook, which is A4+ size... so yeah, I did often feel intimidated by the large empty pages and felt like I never did enough to write reasonable chunks of text. For the past two years, I have had an off-on love-hate relationship with journaling and abandoned the practise several times. This year I have picked it back up with a new sense of pleasure in my fountain pens and inks and journalling awakening. I felt this probably could use a new journal to go along with this new sense of enjoyment, so I chose a smaller size notebook this time to pick up keeping a diary again. I first considered the A5 size notebooks from Leuchtturm, but while I love them for bullet journaling, I don't feel like I can really write full sentences very well in it. So I went with a less conventional size, the B5 is bigger than the A5 but smaller than the A4. This one I feel is very good to journal in, the size is large enough to not feel cramped when writing full sentences, and I can usually fill out at least one full page, which also makes me feel accomplished. I think it's a pretty good, if not perfect size, for regular journaling.

I used mine as an art journal. Every time I get some new art supplies from one of my art box subscriptions, Jetpens ;), or from the art store, I would write down my experience with them whilst practicing my cursive. I would draw, stick postcards, sticky notes, washi tape, and anything to decorate my pages so they won't look drab. I would write in different color pens, markers, and other writing utensils because I lose interest easily with writing with just one pen in the same boring color.

Personally I find the opposite works better for me. Don't make yourself write every day, just when you feel like there's something you want to express, record or reflect on. And don't limit yourself to a page a day. So if you want to pour your heart out for pages on end on some days, go ahead, but not writing at all for a while is fine too. I guess just try different ways and see what's right for you.

A trick to those who don't really like sticking to the same thing: try a binder journal with small pages, there are a lot at amazon, shoppe and aliexpress, and you can always change the size, color, texture and even the format of the page, just by having a hole puncher. This helped me keep with my journaling habit and, in 2 years, i've fullfilled about 4 journals and couldn't live without one. Hope my comment helped 🙂

My tips: 1) first of all it's your journal you can write whatever you want like bad experience, short stories, any life lesson(not everyday) for that you can read books to get an idea 2)write daily (even in two to four lines )like what you did, what you wil do tommarow, any life quotes or lesson from book. 3)if you want to use visuals do it (it's your journal).according to my 2years journaling experience 😊
