5 Essential Natural Cleaning Agents!
My five essential ingredients for making natural household cleaners are:
White Vinegar, Bicarbonate of Soda, Lemon Juice, Washing Soda Grains and Dr. Bronner's Liquid Castille Soap. These ingredients can be put to use for washing every area of the home.
Lavender Vinegar - Place your Lavender buds (Fresh or dried) into a jar and cover with white distilled vinegar. Leave to infuse for 4-6 weeks and then strain. Discard the Lavender to the compost heap and use the Lavender Vinegar for washing mirrors and windows, to clean shower doors and for adding to laundry or to any washing water.
Bath and Sanitary Ware cleaner - Half fill a small tub with Bicarbonate of Soda. Add a good squirt of lemon juice and mix well. Add a capful of vinegar and stir well. The mixture fizzes and foams as the chemicals in the lemon juice, vinegar and bicarbonate of soda react together. Then add a squirt of Dr. Bronners and mix until you have a thick cream cleaning lotion. Use a small amount on a damp cloth to clean the bath and basin. This can also be used on any enamel ware or on kitchen sinks. Removes dirt, grime and grease.
I also use the Washing Grains in my laundry, for cleaning drains and for washing wood work and floors.
Thank you for watching and please leave a comment. What do you use as a natural cleaning agent?

I owned a green cleaning service for 20 years and when I transitioned to plant based cleaners, I lost the older clientele that didn’t feel that their house was clean unless it reared of bleach. Everyone who comes in my house tells me how good it smells…of course the handmade soaps and herbs contribute to the wonderful aroma 🌿🌸🌼💚

I love the idea of the lavender-infused vinegar! Our windows don’t tend to get very dirty, either but I’ve never been able to get them free of streaks. Over the past few years, I’ve slowly been switching our household to more environmentally-friendly cleaners. This might just be the year to go diy. Thank you for the tips!

I did that yesterday. I had an old Lemon that was too old to use but I didn't want it to go to waste so I chopped it up and put it in some vinegar and let it soak for a little while. I used it yesterday to wipe down the light switches and the door handles. I am going to try soaking some pine and see what it will smell like.

You are so right, I haven't bought commercial cleaners in years. I also use Dr. Bronner's to wash my hair and rinse with a dash of vinegar in a quart of water. My hair is over 36 inches long and I wash it twice a week. A bottle of Bronner's will last for months. My scalp feels better and my hair stays cleaner longer.

Fantastic video. Just a quick note. Try water with washing soda or bicarbonate of soda also the Castile soap as they are alkaline when you add vinegar which is acidic you neutralise your cleaning agent. If you use water in the mix then clean you can use the vinegar to help rinse as it then will send a ph neutral waste into the water ways. Also Dr Bronners is pricey, you don’t want to lose any of its effectiveness xx

Hi Everyone! Because I cannot find washing soda in Ontario, I decided to find out how to make it. Sharing this for all my lovely new friends. DIY Washing Soda Use a large baking pan, like a glass cake pan or a deep cookie sheet. Set your oven to 400 degrees F. Spread a thin layer of baking soda in the pan. Bake for about an hour and mix it, then, bake for another hour. There are sites that say it should only take about an hour but when I checked mine, it wasn't done. So I baked it for about 2 hours total until the color became a bit dull. Note Apparently, if you use a glass pan, it will take longer. If you use stone or metal, it will take less time. Chemistry Explained💋 Simply, when baking soda (Sodium Bicarbonate) gets heated, it turns into washing soda (Sodium Carbonate) + Carbon Dioxide + Water. 2NaHCO3 + Heat ==> Na2CO3 + CO2 + H2O That's it! See how that works? Easy peasy. The washing soda is now more granular and not as fine and powdery as its former life. You can tell the color has yellowed a bit too and when you rub it between your fingers, you can feel the tiny granules, unlike baking soda. Add 1-1/2 cups epsom salts to 1/2 cup soda.

I have finally just made a batch of my very own laundry liquid using your easy peasy recipe. As i live a little out of the way of decent shops, ive had to rely on online supplies which took nearly two weeks to assemble. I had to half the quantities, and I used lemon balm essential oil. It has made my washing so soft! I don't usually use fabric softener, (my daughters suffer with eczema) so I'm used to crispy clothes😂 this is a pleasant surprise, I have to say, we are farmers so our clothes can come in a bit stinky! So I doubled the dosage for our work clothes just to be on the safe side. I love this stuff! I'm looking to make your wonderful hair care recipes next, so I'm very excited about that! I'm currently enjoying the misery that is covid😢😂 So when I'm able to stand up for more than 5 minutes without fainting, I'll be getting on with that. Also, my own cleaning solution, too. I'm so grateful for the time you take to share with us all Terri. Thank you so much!❤ oh by the way, a couple of years ago,i did make a similar vinegar to the one you made, but i used orange and lemon peel instead of lavender!

I'm growing Lavender from seed for the first time this year and I can't wait to use the buds in the vinegar; great idea. I think it's spiritual to use the plants and spirits of things from your own land. I smiled when you made the soda mixture for cleaning the porcelain. My grandmother and mother used that for years. My weather station states the wind gusts are up to 50kph today so it's an indoor planning and cleaning day. Thanks for yet another wonderful video.

This is inspiring! The toxicity of cleaning agents seems necessary, and yet it isn't! I will try the bath scrub. Using cleaning products hurts my throat and makes me cough. This will be a blessing. Thank you.

Lovely video Terri, much better to use natural ingredients... I shall be harvesting my lavender to put in the vinegar from now on... I haven't used Dr Brunners in a while so I will order some. I've even in the garden for a bit today marvelling how things are springing into life again. Hope you have a good week too x x

Hi Teri, great to see you and thank you for sharing. I have been using this bicarbonate and vinegar for a long time to clean..my mother thought me in Belgium. I even put some drops of peppermint oil into the water so fresh!! And the bugs + mosquitos don't like it..so much better than Handy Andy . Or mister muscle.. ok..take care .

Just to let you know my partner & I just realised we haven’t seen any of your videos come up for a long time so we had to search for you. We are subscribed. We like watching occasionally in the evenings, we find it nice easy watching. As you are not pushing big pharma and using wild remedies they are not going to make any money from natural remedies so I presume that’s why you might be getting harder to find.

Thank you Terri for another great video! Thank you sharing your ideas with us, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, your viewers, fans, like myself. We very much appreciate it! Always looking forward to watch your videos, admiring your beautiful, peaceful, healthy place and your adorable dogs.❤️. Just cleaned my bathrooms using your “recipe”. It works! Of course. Why wouldn’t it?? For my daily cleaning I use in a spray bottle, 3/4 vinegar, 1/4 water and tee tea and peppermint essential oil for bathrooms, and for kitchen worktops, table, I use lemon, orange essential oil. The same vinegar and water for windows, but now I’ve tried citronella essential oil instead of lavender, hoping it might help with keeping flies away. We shall see if it works. As for floors, yes, I use Dr. Bronner Castile soap, again, with some essential oil. I use to wash all types of flooring. It works for me, I like it. And yes, I can’t find “Elbow Grease” anywhere, either. Global shortage of it! Looking forward to your next video, Terri. Thank you.❤️

Thank you for another wonderful video Terri - I think many people forget simple natural ingredients with a touch of elbow grease are just as and often more effective than the chemical brews one can buy in the store . I use vinegar for laundry rinse ,windows and vinegar mixed with bicarbonate of soda I use to clean my sinks ,tub etc - I use lemon juice and salt to clean my cutting boards but I haven’t tried your recipe for the creme cleanser so I will try that today - the sun is out and I am doing a bit of spring cleaning and planting more seeds . I use Dr. Bronners soap for just about everything and love it - even the dog gets a periodic bath with it🥰 Have a great week Terri !

I love the soap recipe. I got so fed up with the smears and hard work in using bought window cleaner last year but then I remembered hearing about vinegar and gave that a go. I haven't looked back, lol. It takes a fraction of the time and my windows are sparkling! I also use soda to pour down the basin plugholes and in my washing machine, so I've already got the two main ingredients. So it looks as though I won't bother with store bought cleansers anymore. Thank you, I'm so enjoying your wisdom and your lovely home & garden. :)

Thank you for sharing these. Newspaper does still work great with vinegar if you use the black & white sections for windows (the comics/ funnys leave streaks). I also use white vinegar & peroxide to clean the shower.
@DanusIrishHerbGarden
@DanusIrishHerbGarden 2 года назад
Yes, black and white is ok. I think I heard that they cleaned better when they were the old fashioned inks. Just discovered peroxide - it is not really used as a cleaning agent here.
@jenniferbriski567
@jenniferbriski567 2 года назад
@@DanusIrishHerbGarden when you combine peroxide with white vinegar it makes a temporary bleach (the hydrogen peroxide still breaks down into oxygen and water) and will discolor dark fabrics and whiten whites, but also works amazing on hard water stains.
