i remember years ago when other youtubers use 2 hate on yammie but here he is like the biggest motorcycle internet content creator 3 years later lets goooo
Another reason to have good distance: If you don't have to slam on the brakes and you can come to a smoother, more gradual and less aggressive stop, the guy riding your ass won't have to slam brakes either if they're paying attention, and since bikes can stop faster than cars, even if you both slam brakes at the exact same time, you're going to stop faster and you're going to get rear-ended.
I love hitting drainage ditches leaving work when there is a long ass line. It brings me up to parking lots where I continue on ahead of everyone. Love having an offroad capable bike.
@3:57 I leave my shield up ALL the time and I have black tape at the lower edge. This allows me to use the edge to block the sun. I do the same with the sunglasses, a strip of black tape at the top and I can fully block the sun and still see the traffic lights. The one on the shield is adjustable, so I have two ways to block the sun.
In Houston here. It's actually in the works this year to legalize LANE FILTERING, ie: approaching a red light but LANE SPLITTING is still going to be a no-no. Talking to a few Houston Pasadena cops I was pretty much told that it's considered "LANE SHARING" and will get you a nice invitation to the local municipality to pay for said learned knowledge 😉. Meh.. I personally don't do either but hey , I-45 S has no shortage of riders that have no issues with doing it, LOL. At any rate, Texas might be the 4th state that technically legalize it.
@@jamesclifton6246 yeah, I-10 sux . I had to go from Pasadena out to Mason rd to pick up my sons boy last friday ~ 4:00. Took over an hour to get out there and 3 hours to get back to pasadena. If I would've been alone & on my bike I'm pretty sure I'd have started lane splitting for the first time, LoL.
Great tips! Backpacks are rough for commuting. We offer some great saddlebags on our Halcyon and the luggage rack can easily fit a 30-pack of whatever canned beverage you prefer 😁
On my morning commute I try not to put my foot down any more than I have to. This is aided not only by trying to maintain the space cushion, but also by using the transit lane and the bus lane wherever they are available, also filtering between the cars enable feet to stay on pegs rather than on the ground. Fortunately the national transport association sees the risks of motorcycles being rear ended as being more significant than the risks associated with filtering.
Another reason to leave a gap. You never know what's on the road ahead (pot holes, dropped car parts, etc) which can go right between the wheels of a car and if you are too close you don't have as much time to swerve around it.
It’s funny You guys always say, no one cares if you own a motorcycle. I can’t tell you how many random people come up to me and talk about my bike. Is I’m not in my bike they talk about riding and tell me how they always thought about getting one and never did, etc. It happens almost every day ~ maybe 5 times a week. I love that!
I have occasionally had old guys come up and ask what sort of bike it is at the fuel station or supermarket (Husqvarna Vitpilen 401) but its pretty rare.
Yes to all of this: mesh jacket, pants, and gloves, remove the face shield, Cardo is a really great piece of kit, long following distances, I have a trunk to carry gear in, tank bag for my water bottle, lanesplitting isn’t legal where I am, but I filter at stop lights or keep space open in front of me to escape to…. Perfect list.
Don't lane filter near a bike filtering a different lane. Nice people will move to make space by veering directly into the 2nd bike's path lol. (if people wanna get but hurt and speed up cause you passed them... pass 'em again :)
I wear tinted goggles with my arai xd4 for day riding so I can still see perfectly fine with the sun. If it starts raining I just pull my visor down and when it's night time I'll just stretch my goggles out and put them over the chin bar. Goggles make the transition so much easier between cweather and time of day.
There is no place to secure a bag on the back of my MT-07 and I bet many bikes have even fewer places to attach a tie down. I use a backpack designed for motorcyclists and it works quite well.
I brought home my current computer monitor strapped to the back of my Royal Star Tour Deluxe. If you go to Asia it's amazing what gets strapped to bikes.
I left 75 % of the skin on my back on the asphalt after I slid for about 100 ft wearing nothing but a T-shirt, shorts and flip-flops on my DL650 V-Strom. Sometimes you do slide :)
It's the middle of December my man, what about us winter riders? Edit: Also, for carrying cargo, if you ride in the winter, you'll find that it's simply easier to limit the amount of stuff that you need to carry and simply opt for a good waterproof backpack. If you pack your stuff right, it'll be bearable in the comfortable scale.
Another great vid. I have a mesh jacket that feels like it's not there in the summer. Rain and insulated liners make it 4 season with a fleece and vest. My modular helmet with flip down tinted visor allows me to raise the clear visor like the adv helmet wind catcher while the tinted still protects my eyes. Milk Crates are the official luggage of the KLR. Toss your crap in maybe with a bungee over the top and your good. Since you're in Texas maybe you could visit Demolition Ranch for a few crossover vids to top a million subs in no time.
I Allways wear my gear. Midsummer when it is hottest, I use ventilated (holed) leather boots and gloves... but I have a kevlar forresters shirt with shoulder, elbow and back protection pads. I also have a pair of kevlar denim pants with hip and knee protection pads... but honestly I sometimes ride in normal denim jeans when it is really hot. At the beginning and end of season I have a leather jacket, some other boots and gloves that provide alot more wind protection. Besides that I have a heated vest powered by a powerbank that I can wear under the jacket for colder days or nights, it feels like having heated seats in a car! :D If really cold I just layer up with long undies, sweatshirts and scarfs etc...
Main tip in UK ... watch main roads with lots of give ways!! They turn in on you or they turn right while you filter (my left arm snapped like a twig). Can't wait to get back on.
Best Thing for transporting stuff: a Tankbag! Just put the ring on the tank, and klick the bag on. Very easy, and safe. And don‘t use bungee cords on a motorcycle!
I used bungee cords to transport a box of moonpies home from a good distance. Let's just say I was constantly having to reach behind me to check my cargo.

Bungee cords are fine so long as you make sure they are TIGHT! I was a courier for thirty years and as well as top box and panniers I carried plenty of bungees for anything oversized or awkward. Several times carried a 15KG gas canister strapped down with bungee to my home but learned to carry it upright. First shot tied it on its side which makes cornering interesting as fluid gas moves about in the cannisters! Stay safe....
No lane splitting or shoulder travel here in Washington. Some HOV shoulder travel is legal in limited spots, but never splitting. Besides, cagers here driving beaters love to throw doors open or swerve to force you into other vehicles.
Crazy that I live 20 minutes from Windsor castle, my mum was a nurse and once had lunch with the queen at Buckingham palace a few days after finding out she was pregnant with me, my dad is a delivery driver and had a delivery of fresh salmon for the queens chef at Windsor castle, the chef had over ordered and thus I ate salmon that was meant to be eaten by the queen that night for my dinner, the chef had to get the queen to sign to declare that my dad was allowed to leave the premises with the salmon, RIP queen Elizabeth II
#6 Get your hands on an electric motorcycle; no heat generating combustion. My Zero is truly point and shoot; no gears, no clutch. 0-60 in less than 3 seconds. No vibration and I can hear my music without blasting my eardrums. Hits highway speeds easily and always has a full charge in the morning. Down side, doesn’t like the cold. PS- motorcycling ain’t cheap!
At 04:43 after all this talking about safety and heat, you show that you own 3 BLACK helmets. Not only are they far less visible when you are in traffic between cars they are also much hotter. The sun radiates ca 1300 W of power per meter square. A black helmet heats up much faster.
To be fair it doesn't show that he has those helmets in black because none of those pictures are specifically of his helmet. I have the Bell Mx9 mips and they had like 10 colours when I bought it.
theres no winning with gear, you'll end up with more than one jacket eventually Ill be sweating my ass off during the day but then when the sun goes down I'm shivering and riding full tuck at the speed limit to try stay warm
Having a backpack makes tucking super awkward because your helmet will hit the top of your backpack and make it hard to look up. But my backpack does have an integrated cooler
Stuck a bag of chicken feed and a bale of straw on my Kawasaki vursys 650 got the 4 miles from the shop to my house, need a car license as well as my bike one 😂
Ok lov everyone, but the backpack lore here is either fake or ignorance. All you have to do with literally ANY backpack on a motorcycle is loosen the straps and just ride.. USMC infantry. Carried a lot of pack, vouch for this. Just loosen the shoulder straps and ride
I can do Music with a 30 dollar cell phone without cell service and a 15 dollar bluetooth helmet speaker set. I also get Free GPS based speedoneter/odometer and GPS navigation. If you get an old phone no one wants for zero you can do this for 15 bucks. No Cardo needed.. way too expensive.
Vizor off? -I once took a bat to the face while doing 40mph... I am talking a flying animal bat suddently turning straight into my face out of nowhere. Slapped me so hard I almost crashed the bike. Without my vizor I would have had rabies teeth imbedded in my face!
bruh no. never take off your visor. just yesterday a car in front of me in the city launched a small rock and it hit my visor and made a scratch. that would be my glasses or worse, my forehead. im never riding without the visor in traffic again
I really disagree with the bungee cord option. I met someone who lost the vision in one eye from the cord snapping. I did a little research and found that injuries from bungee cords are not that uncommon. I use Rokstraps which are easy to manage and I think are safer.
Bungees, I’ve bungeed 50lb iams dog food, a case of Kirkland toilet paper, and a case of Bang to the bitch seat of my America for a 6mi ride down I-5 and a couple miles on surface streets.
