Sorry for the missing word at the start folks. Had to chop this one up a lot more voice wise due to flu still beating me up. Somehow I missed that one. I hate being unwell.
@@kobold7964 lol all good it's only one character. Before t7 there wasn't any 2d characters so you're right in the aspect of there not being 2d characters galore.
My favorite tier of characters are characters that "Seemed" low tier at release, but someone actually discovered something crazy that bumped them up a lot. Without a patch, even.
Carl in blazblue calamity trigger was the definition of this. went from bottom 1 to top 1 in the public eye literally overnight when someone figured out he had a universal and easy touch of death via abusing a weird system mechanic. still bad in every other way though.
Kind of like Vergil in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. It may seem hard to believe, but at the time Ultimate dropped Vergil didn’t really seem to have much to offer. Then people figured him out. Vergil became a meta-defining destroyer of teams, and arguably the best anchor character in the game. He’s the guy you snap in, mix up, hopefully open up and then kill him by ANY MEANS NECESSARY. I’m glad to see that UMvC3 continued Vergil’s streak of only being playable in updated rereleases of games and completely DESTROYING those games. It’s happened in DMC 3, DMC 4, UMvC3, and now DMC5.
Elena in USF4. Everyone, including Daigo and other JP pros thought she was terrible. Come to find out she was annoying, healing was tip of the iceberg.
Spectral Vs Warlock is hilarious. You can just hold up left or up right while in Soul Ascension the whole match and there is not a thing Quan can do about it 🤣
Quan Chi had the roughest one, seeing as every patch week, was a nerf. He was so strong first week, fast, frames, okie, grabs, etc...then they just made him so no one liked him or picked him.
Another variation that got gutted just as hard, if not harder in MKX final patch was Outlaw Erron IMO. Like Warlock, he lost his armored combo starter for the variation which was the whole reason you'd use Outlaw; the variation strings were forgettable and the stab ender wasn't really relevant when you could just end everything with command grab for more damage. So you're left with vanilla Erron with a bunch of useless strings and a combo ender that he didn't need. It's safe to say that the final patch made Outlaw worthless, irrelevant and absolutely bottom tier
While I don't have any competitive experience with MKDA, I would say when I was younger it felt that Cyrax really sucked, the damage on his strings was bad and he was one of the few characters I struggled to complete the arcade mode with. So even from a purely casual perspective you might have felt that he was bad lol.
Lol we probably have jade glow and jade being bad for peacemaker being busted in mk1 when when he came out (he has the glow, but also like insane damage instead of bad damage, full screen approach options for getting in against non-projectile keep-out, his own full screen gunshots, and a bunch of other stuff. Also the best zoner in the game isn’t completely immune to his glow unlike with Jade so that helps too).
Wow.. Baraka didn't make it. He's been bottom tier in like every game he appeared in.. aside from Deception and MK11. Guess it says something when another character in the same game is worse. Still love him though.
... Jade got done dirty in MK9. Quite sad, considering how obnoxious she was in UMK3. Actually, that begs the question - Which game was she in where she was at her absolute strongest?
She did have an infinite in 3d but ill need to find out how strong she was overall. It could possibly be mk11 due to how many people hate fighting her, but even then im not sure!
@@PNDKM ok this will be a weird answer but: MK Mobile, her assassin variation makes her one of the best fighters and the most annoying to fight against she has a weird dodge or roll that can completely avoid all damage, which is one of her primary appeals, l'd like to see you do a video about the completely insane meta of that game
I'm surprised Jade is here. I had a pocket Kano/Striker because nobody knew how to verse them (to just block online, really). Jade was another I'd use in the same regard, but she had the most reward in my experience.
It's not MK but NRS game: I remember in Injustice 2 sonic fox bringing to scene Captain Cold and literally destroy everybody with him. Back then CPT Cold was considered until sonic fox started to use it and he jump to S tier character. NRS literally nerfed it after this. Some characters just need to meet the correct player (?)
It doesn't really help your points to show footage of all these characters doing really well in game. Maybe in the future use footage of them actually struggling?
Feel like drunken master bo rai cho deserves at least an honourable mention. Poor guy has all his best moves locked behind a move that eventually STUNS HIM if he doesn't keep using it.
True, but the nice thing about DM Bo is that they gave him tons of ways to keep getting drunk. Plus, if you're willing to sacrifice some damage Scaling, he can drink after a fart and still combo.
the fact people in the comments love Kai and wanna see him again warms my heart. it's one of those MK community things that is just nice and reminds you of the unique appeal of fighting games.
I specifically remember playing him for his design on MK4 when I first got it on n64, but he was also fun to play with for me. I liked the detail that his weapon changed to Raiden’s staff after you complete an arcade run with him. Just a nice little addition they didn’t have to put imo. I’d be very interested to see how the character’s gameplay and fireballs could be handled if translated to a modern MK.
that's how tragic Kai was tbh, and idk if this is just a personal experience or something that everyone experienced when playing MKA but Kai's AI for the arcade ladder is really aggressive, for an unsafe character lol (and he LOVES spamming Rising Heel because that's pretty much the only decent move he has, but even that is unsafe on block)
Kai could have been an infuriating noobkiller if nrs reintroduced him as their capoeria guy. Also he should have been the shaolin rep of the kombat kids.
@@kombatant2154 he was already supposed to be the liu successor in 4 before they completely dropped that storyline. Deserved a second chance imo. My kombat kid lineup would have been Cassie (SF), Kai (SM), Takeda (Shirai Ryu), and Frost (Lin Kuei) to get a new gen rep from the 4 major heroic earthrealm factions, giving Kai and Frost a do over in the new timeline.
@@bbbbKeJodddd o personally dislike that they had to give 3 members of the special forces kids, I think takeda and cassie should be the only 2 true kombat kids and have kai and frost be how you described
Capoeira would be better for someone like Darrius, the black dude from the Orden Realm (MK Deception) I want to see characters from other realms like Orden and Chaos Realm.
I am still mad they didn’t bring him into the fold for either DA or deceptions, you would think Liu Kang’s student would want revenge for his death or try to stop his zombie form from rampaging in deception but no dude was forgotten
Kai's kit would actually make him a perfect zoner in the MK reboot trilogy with his fireballs and crouching uppercut kick The problem is he was introduced in the 3D arena fighter era of MK
How is Kai low teir he has plenty potential but they choose not to develop his character he had full potential to be a kombat kid they brought in fujin in mkx and mk11
I always loved the concept of Bottom tier characters in the same vein as Top tier characters, in that it's intriguing looking at how "what about them makes them so terrible." and just how extreme that CAN get. Like with Kai and his fireballs just....Not working Although, I do tend to find that people who main these characters seem to get oddly defensive about the fact.
Hey I just wanted to say thank you guys for the great videos! I'm not even really a big fan of Mortal Kombat, but the passion for the subject and detail in your videos makes them engaging regardless! Keep it up and God bless!
Still to this day, I want to know what idiot thought it was a good idea to make grabs blockable in MKDA. That's the entire point of a grab. On a side note, Quan Chi's warlock variation is the only one I play with him. Sad that its so bad though
Ahhh yes... Jade Kenshi matchup in MK9, I think the very first 9-1 matchup I ever found out existed. I vaguely remember an event where a Kenshi player (Pig of the hut?) Played like 5-10 Jade players that just struggled so so hard to even get a single round between them.
Well I looked for a link or something to the stream, but for the life of me I can't find it. However, ,more details for those interested. It was Pig of the Hut as Kenshi, in a first to 5 against 5 great Jade players (RunwayMafia, STB Goldfish, Mr. Mileena, STB Espio, AestheticLove). Pig went 25-0. He lost 4 rounds total.
im actually surprised jade was on the list in mk9 she was one of my main go-to characters in that game. but then again i dont understand all of the frame work and just play for fun
Say what you want about Sheeva but that UMK3 macquette is one of the best clay puppets I've ever seen. I don't know how much cleanup they had to do as far as the digital side but it looks like a living thing.
12:37 GOOD that`s what she gets for being a cheater in Mk Trilogy. Everytime I fought her she would use her cloak and charge at me and keep grabbing me but there`s no way to avoid her.
Kai (AKA Carl): It's finally my time to shine! Jokes aside I feel sorry for Carl. I think the devs gave up with him as you can see in his ending in MK4 Btw, in case you are wondering why I call him Carl, it'd because of the guy from the Simpsons. I have calling him like that for many years xD
@@ImperfectD I also called him as Carl because of CJ from GTA 🤭 When I was little playing MK4, I always found Kai very forgettable and lame that's why I decided to calling him like that. It is like stop calling Superman 64 as Superman 64 when in reality is called just Superman. And besides, I like dark humor 😆
I love how this video was all about how weak these characters are, but the clips used usually show them wining or at the very least doing decently well.
The Prima guides were actually not good at all. Ketchup even made a whole video about it. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5sMdLM7-OUE.html
