I'm a breakdown driver for all the major clubs (Agent). I always tell the members to look at your channel or better still get the garage to look. Amazing how many outside temp faults there are. Love this channel keep it up.

Not all angels have wings, some come with oil stained hands and a mobile mechanics van!! You are a legend and saved over £3k not having to get new injectors and dpf filter as some garages were telling me when in fact some guitar wire and a can of dpf cleaner sorted the faults as it was just a blocked pipe to the sensor. Great Vid 👍 The Adblu/Urea system needs the Outside temperature in order to monitor cold freezing conditions and to know if and when to heat the Adblu supply line pipes which have an heater element wrapped around them. This stops the Adblu from freezing in the lines. I ve had a few Reno/Vauxhalls which have had this heater element fail .........forget which codes it puts up but the dealer usually keeps the pipe in stock as its a common failure.

I'm trying to learn about modern cars as I'm old school mechanics and been out the country a long time, this gives me more confidence on fixing modern computer designed, total insanity, systems, and I'm an aerospace engineer hahahaha ,, Big thanks

Great video. I particularly liked the demonstration at the end of how the sensor in the mirror affects the system and makes warnings appear. Very useful and helpful.

Most don't know that pretty much 99% of all diesels trigger heated mirrors and rear demist on every regen, coded in, good indication when it's regening and won't stop until regen finishes. This must have something to do with the ambient temp sensor on the mirror surely. Great work

Youre videos are unbelievable, you narrate and work seemlessly..i just bought a trafic. 16 reg sluggish from a cold start. No faults what so ever shown on dash. Not the battery or altonator.. any ideas ,?

Love Renaults for their insane wiring problems. Had a Megane that wouldn't start, spanner light on, the passenger window, blower motor and some other unrelated system didn't work. After spending hours of head scratching and dismantling/testing it turned out to be the wiper arm stalk that was faulty, even though the wipers still worked! swapped it out for a new one and hey presto car started and everything else sprang back into life!

You are the Best! Unfortunately we cannot buy Launch UK DPF cleaner in Europe sold only in UK so I try to use Motip DPF cleaner instead on my Suzuki Fingers crossed!

Mate I absolutely love your vids, first class and really informative, I've been watching loads as I've a perplexing issue with the DPF on my XC-60, but this mirror temp sensor needing a new mirror sounds nuts to me... Even in the Volvo a new sensor from Volvo is £23... That's a huge amount to pay for what is a £3 thermocouple... I'm thinking of swapping the Volvo mirror sensor now as everything else looks fine, DPF 10mbar DPF temp looks like its working, Soot level is 51... but P2463(86) won't clear. 😕

Ambient air temp is needed by the adblue to trigger the urea feed pipe heating I believe because adblue can freeze and even if it only partially freezes the concentration will become higher than the required 37.5%

That's nutts to have to change the whole wing mirror to fix it ... These car makers need a slap how can replacing the whole mirror assembly be echo friendly for the sake of a £20 sensor... ..

The ambient air temperature looked like it worked. But there was a temperature difference of 10degree C.

In short, for the technicians....The oil dilution that often occurs ultimately leads to a shorter life of the oil-lubricated engine parts. In the truck sector, fuel is usually injected with a separate injector placed in the exhaust to carry out regeneration. They do not have the problem of oil dilution and shorter engine life..

I follow this channel everyday. Garages are having a field day charging customers whilst guessing what the fault could be. Rileys do not come to London. Do you know of a garage where they have simiar knowledge in London. We are at our wits end with our Peugeot Expert Van. Thanks

Customer picking up his van with an engine problem, to be told, all done we changed your door mirror, must think he's been taken for a mug

I have just had the check anti pollution warning light and solid amber engine light on. The van runs fine. Took items garage they told me it needs to have glow plugs and new oil/filter fitted. It was serviced six weeks ago... Any way £360 glow plugs new oil/filter fitted, warning lights were off driving home. Next all back on. Took it back they put the Snap On computer back on it. So they said they need to research it... I doubt they will comeback to me.... What happens if you just carry on driving it? I think I will by a Mercedes Sprinter when I save up, an old one... This Vivaro 2016 has been nothing but trouble... Ive had to fit a new, engine, new turbo, new injectors along with a load of other stuff... I would never buy another one..... (Ive just tried the oil change on the stalk but I dont have a OBD2).

Hey great video. We have the same car with the same error after 3200km up zo 4000km, oil delution and dpf. Was the error just the sensor from the mirror or in combination with the pipe you've cleand. Sorry for my bad english. Greetings from Germany 😊

I cant understand how the car manufacturers and designers would relate the air ambient to oil issue. why did they do that? any technical reason? you got many temperature sensors are already at the engine area and inside cabin I think.

Nice little earner for the manufacturer's, having to replace the entire mirror assembly to resolve a sensor failure! What a scam. How difficult would it not be to make just the sensor replaceable! Actually, I'm surprised an aftermarket supplier hasn't jumped on this yet.

Well you should always expect the unexpected with a French heap.. I run a vivaro/ traffic. It’s nothing compared to my sprinter van. Done 70k and gearbox bearings front timing chain cover leak, boost leak, new air con pump. The sprinter that does all the towing and graft = 130k and nothing apart from an air bag recall

Well done on fixing problems, got a 2012 vivao cdti that had oil dilution code even after oil change wasn't till my local garage looked into it they found someone had turn off service intervals in the comp as soon as they got it back on at set to 10,000 I've not had that code come back, keep up the good videos

I do quite a bit of work for lads that are on DPD & DHL delivery vans & I can tell you the wing mirrors are one of the first points of contact haha yeh seen this normally about 3 weeks after the mirror was the first point of contact. Owner?Franchisee of the vans didnt believe me at first until I said "humour me and see how it goes" been happy ever since

Really! This is crazy, someone smashed my wing mirror off, I taped it back together while the insurance company of the driver who did the damage prolonged the repair. They finally agreed six months later to repair. During that time, I had both turbo’s replaced, DFE cleaned twice, both Nox sensors, and about 2 other seanors changed and this could have been caused by the wing mirror! Wing mirror has now been changed but now I need a new EGR valve! I’m giving the insurance company a call back today! 😂

The only other thing I would have done would have been to check the wires from the ECU to the ambient air temp sensor had good continuity and no resistance. I’ve seen the wires start to break between the A post and the door on some cars. Spot on otherwise 👍👍

I've often thought this with Diesels, it would be so handy as a driver to know if the vehicle was in the middle of regen, like a symbol somewhere on the dash. We could continue driving then for a bit just to make sure it doesnt stop half way through etc.

That poxy exhaust back pressure sensor pipe is a pain in the arse, guitar wire is exactly how I do it 9/10 it works , I had a pipe right out of the manifold but the carbon build up in the pipe screw hole was like concrete I ended up with a tiny spike to knock it out. Bloody stupid idea really all the 1.6 Nissans the same. Cracking video 👍

I cleaned the dpf on a customers suzuki yesterday - that much black crap came out the exhaust, the ground behind looked like a warzone, lol. Seeing how many you do Jimmy, that little lay-by must look like the slopes of Vesuvius.

The airbags are being deployed?! 🤣💨 Really sorry but automotive software engineers smoke what kind of mint?! 🥴 Absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable programming. An ambient air temperature sensor has absolutely nothing to do with engine management. (For people who don’t know this. Air intake systems on modern card usually have 2 air temperature sensors.) Implausible signals from those sensors are relevant to stopping self regeneration, but not a thermometer that measures how warm it is outside. Great diagnostic skills. 🙌 Even a skilled mechanic would not directly make the link due to the very unlogical programming if he has no experience with these vans.

I tried doing this on a 118d 2014 temperature of exhaust was not rising at 3k rpm before particulate filter no clue what the problem is, but would get up to temperature when driving

Hey Jimmy, love your videos mate. I’ve been watching them to diagnose a dpf issue diy. I’m getting 0mbar of differential pressure and 0mbar offset at idle and suspect this is abnormal. Can you confirm if I should have a reading at idle? Suspect cracked/holed sensor hose or faulty sensor is not prompting car to regen. Thanks

Still mystified with the logic on DPF!? The system is supposed to be there for reducing emissions and yet I’m told to blast my van up the motorway burning up fuel to stop it from clogging up! I have a Renault trafic and admittedly I only do short local trips with my business. I’ve had nothing but trouble and heartache with DPF.

Vauxhall has just charged me £360 to diagnose and update software, they told me to drive 25mls vigorously I’ve travelled 300 light still on. The exact lights jimmy has just shown us, I’m buying a new wing mirror tomorrow 🙏🏻
