I've got the Black Aluminium DeWalt 7" / 177mm imperial Black Rafter Layout Square. I got it when Dewalt where doing a promo. So many speed squares to pick from, get the one(s) that suit you, sometimes the feel of a tool can be just as important as the features. I use it for putting up really cheap shelves. I know a lot of people will claim that a combination square (with spirit level and scribe which I do have too) is the better tool (all depends on the job/task at hand). But the speed square is my goto as you don't have to worry much about where to store and handle it (within reason). You can't have enough tools. *Knowing that you have the right tool to best implement and complete a task or job is priceless.*

The demonstrations of four of the five tips were excellent. The demonstration on using the protractor was faulty because, although finding 30 degrees was found correctly, the wrong edge of the tool was used to strike the line therefore it wasn’t 30 degrees.

What edge should be used?

Oh my goodness, you're right! I should've drawn the line along the opposite edge of the square. Thanks for catching this error.

Not that it matters, but I figure the line drawn in the video at 1:07 must be -45 + 30 = -15 degrees. 🤔

When you marked 30 degrees you marked the wrong edge of the square

Oh my, you're right! I should've drawn along the opposite edge. Good catch!

3.5" is the width of a 2" x 4". OK.

AFAIK, 2 by 4s are not 2" by 4"!
