guys the pureref tip is worth a bucket full of gold. thanks so much guys, your videos are really inspiring and about the best ZBrush videos I have seen. Love the simplicity and pace with which you are explaining all the advanced techniques!
Hello, can you share lightshot package file with me if you still have it because the web isn't responding or maybe it's down for some reason I don't know!
If your thinking to get multiple monitor (more than one) totally get it! I use my drawing tablet as my second monitor as its quite big and yea. I never thought i needed a second monitor until i got one. Its just so much more productive if you can affort an upgrade!
Also it is good practice to keep your backups in the cloud servise like google drive, dropbox etc. I think its essential! And second tip is: use pinterest for searching refs, its way better than google search
Just a quick tip on screenshots. In Windows, you can do a quick shot of an area on the screen with Win+Shift+S. Just draw out the area and hit Ctrl+V after that to where you wanna share or paste it. Handy for sharing screenshots quickly!
Great video! You actually don’t need to use multiple desktops and use three fingers. You can simply swipe with two fingers to switch between apps. Works the same, but without the extra hassle.
Worth looking into native features of Windows 10 that might meet your needs without the need for third party tools. In regards to f.lux there is feature called Night Light. It has schedule options and color temperature settings as well. Just search Night Light or quickly access it in the notifications center. Also native functions like light shot exist. Win Key + Shift + S. Then draw a marquee over area of interest, it'll be stored the system clipboard ready to be pasted elsewhere. For more advanced options Win Key + W, then select screen sketch.
NICE! Didn't know about the snipping tool hotkey. Thanks. I tried Night Light, but I still prefer Flux to be honest, as I find it to be easier to turn it off, as this is something I do a lot. Still, good to have it built in to Windows. I'm sure it will save a lot of people strained eyes. /H
Ah and yet another thought I like to add: I think its not too bad to have to switch from one monitor to antoher for looking at reference. I assume it triggers and trains your "playing Memory" part of the brain even more and forces you to memorize the things you see and hold onto them. : ) It might be some kind of an extra spice especially when you're learning. :P
Ah I never knew Win10 let you have multiple desktops, awesome news!! BTW, the default snipping tool has been updated to act like Lightshot. (shift, Win key, S to activate)
Believe it or not, you can actually change the default behavior of the print screen button to automatically use the built-in snippet tool! It's under Settings > Ease of Access > Under "Interaction" Keyboard and towards the bottom, Print Screen Shortcut. Flip that sucker on and no more using MS Paint to crop your screenshots!
Awesome tips as usual! A couple of extras: windows10 now has similar functionality to f.lux in the screen settings. A great alternative and amazing screenshot tool is ShareX free open source and allows for automatic uploading of images to various sites like imgur (i have set it up to upload to a private folder in imgur). And man..pureref is indeed one of the best tools ever xD.
thank you so much, i always use snipping tools before but this lightshot is realy great it really replace the classic print screen i hope windows will get this amazing simple tool.
This video is fantastic, thank you for sharing! I would suggest using ShareX over lightshot based on what was shown in this video. Can set it to automatically save any screenshot you take to a folder. It can also record gifs and mp4 videos if you are doing anything animated. Additionally, it auto sizes the screengrab area to wherever your mouse is so you can single click for a window capture, or just clicking and hold to drag a marquee as you would expect, and just so much more, really is hands down the best screen grabbing software I have used. I also would like to know if you guys use Direct Folders or anything similar to it? It is the single most time saving app I have ever used, been using it for nearly 10 years now. Every time you are importing, saving, opening, and so on, you are having to navigate through your folders to find the exact file location... With Direct Folders, when your program 'open' or 'save' dialogue box opens, if you have an explorer window open to the place you want, you simply click on that explorer window and it will update the path of the one in the dialogue box. Never have to navigate through folders again. There are a few occasions where it doesn't work because the program you are using has it's own funky shell explorer, but 90% of the time that isn't the case, at least for me.
Hey, thanks for your suggestion! A few guys have also suggested ShareX and it looks amazing. I'll definitely need to check it out at some point! :) I dont actually use DF anymore, as windows got a lot better in terms of having favorites in the explorer, but I remember that it was the most useful thing ever. Might do a new video showing that! /H
Instead of using Lightshot you can use the Snipping Tool in Windows that comes with it by default. I just found out about this today when i was telling someone about Lightshot xD
The Snipping Tool is pretty handy, but I like how immediate Lightshot is, as it's mapped directly to your Print Screen key. I use print screening a lot in my work, so having super-quick access is important. Good point though!
FlippedNormals yes, i put the snipping tool in the taskbar for immediate access. Just one program less running in the background^^ i use alt dragand flux tho☺
While Windows 10 does have a built-in night mode. I still like flux since it changes color temperature automatically. Also, for artists that need accurate colors, it's not advised to use Flux
There is another cool thing in Virtual Desktops: You can turn off sliding animation while you switching desktop which makes it instant. It's very very helpful for me .
Hey guys, does LightShot works for you when the ZBrush window is active? For me it doesn't and I always have to click elsewhere (like on the taskbar) before being able to make a screenshot with LightShot...
I find Kuadro to be more useful than purref. Each image is its own separate window, they can be scaled, rotated, etc, and individually selected for "always on top" "locked" and even transparencies so you can trace over them. With purref, everything has to stay within that black window, and I feel that's very limiting.
Mouse with zBrush? think again. You need a tablet not a mouse.... and what politics? Just looked these mouses up, why would you ever use something like that? If you cant navigate then you have to change not the whole software. I'm sorry I dont get it.
Why did you flip out? and why did you delete the original comment? Go figure... Yes you need a tablet. What exactly are you going to do with it in zBrush thats so important accusing Pixologic for politics? Maybe they don't see the point as I do? Care to explain instead of rolling your forehead on your keyboard? Thanks.
I was close then. Sorry to the Norwegian Guy. I guess from my name you can tell i'm Danish. I speak Danglish compere to you guys. So what is the story behind you? Could be nice to hear about your background. Thx. for your answer. Keep up your good work!
As the Norwegian guy, all is forgiven! We met during our studies in Denmark, and we started FlippedNormals back in '13. We've been working on it ever since, where we've really ramped up the free content in the last month or so. Next to FlippedNormals, we are working as character artists, making creatures and other nasty beasts for the film industry in London. Our goal is to share what we've learn on our journey :) /H
Nice where did you studie? Truemax? FlippedNormals is new to me.. Don't know how I haven't found you before now. I have been on Truemax and now 'im working hard on my showreel. with brought me here. But I will take a look on your content. When I start to go a bit back to Zbrush in the future. I really like you are talking to each other in your videos, I think it makes the tutorials more interesting.
The Animation Workshop in Viborg :) And thanks! We also have so much more fun when we do the tutorials together and I feel it makes it more vibrant. We've done a lot of solo-stuff in the past, but we're making them all together from here on. We wrote some articles about making a reel which might be interesting btw! flippednormals.com/blog/the-creative-students-handbook-reels-portfolios/
I have one quick question if anyone ever answers this I want to start a CGI cartoon using zbrush what would be a good 3D animation software a good one but easy one I'm not sure what am I asking but there it is
thx guys - thats some great stuff. Did you know about seers 1218.io/seer/screenshot.html ? Its a quickview for Windows basicly copying the Mac feature - cant live without it
Another great tool for reference collages is Kuadro: kruelgames.com/tools/kuadro/ Also the introduction by Michael Pavlovich at the bottotm of the site gets you startet using it in no time. It seems similiar to pureref. It also has the ability to make reference collages on one screen and save them as sets for later reopening. (Which pureref might also have, but Ive not used it till now, but will try it out for sure, thanks) There is also yet another tool called "XnView MP" which enables you to quickly browse through your vast collection of pics, when you're not crafting a particular character or thingy but instead need to browse through a lot of different images for anatomy practice for example. It is basically one of those common image viewers, like an advanced windows Image Browser like former picasa, only a bit better imo. You need some minutes to get into it but its highly customizable and well worth it to get you organized with lots of images. It mostly enables you to set them up and organize them exactly the way you like for very quick navigation and access at any time. It also saves like sessions where you can have multiple tabs of pics open and start with them next time you open it. As well as it also has some basic (well working) image manipulation tools for quickly desaturating an image, enhance contrast or brightness and so on. Link to XnView MP: www.xnview.com/de/
Not till now, cause I did not try PureRef till now. I will let you know if I find some as soon as I get to try pureref. hate flux. cant deal with the yellow colors, makes me wanna puke. luckily i dont have issues with the so called blue light, can sleep as soon as i put my head done no matter time of day
