The key to increasing the H_index is publishing review articles because these kinds of articles receive lots of citations in a short period of time.

And scales once they use your scale especially in social sciences you got a quote/citation. Second, open-source papers.

Okay, so people reference Einstein all the time, but they don't cite him or his article or book, doesn't that mean Einstein has a low H_index? And if so is it worth anything to say someone has a high H_index?

Thanks for sharing, I'm about to start my PhD this month, I was also wondering if you could covering something on the ground of how to network effectively as a PhD student with employers as well as other academics during your PhD

Can't help but opening RU-vid almost every hour. Thankfully got rid of Facebook habit. Should work on the RU-vid one too.

I am about to collect my data and have undergone the path and some of the things you discuss here. Keep doing this as I find what you share here precious to any student. Thanks and happy new year

So so valuable…especially comparing myself to those in my cohort. It has strangled my progression and confidence so many times. Thank you!

Hi Andy, I wrote a similar comment before, but I think it did not show up. I'm essence, your channel is great, yet as a suggestion, maybe you could bring on other guests now and then (even if it's via Zoom). For example, it would be nice if you could interview other PhD graduates or soon to be graduates. The more perspectives the better. I think it would really expand your channel and give you more content to delve into. Thanks. 👍

Sometime you don't have much freedom to fail or to make mistake critically.

Wish you can explain avoiding emotions more thoroughly in anii dedicated video as emotions are the one that makes us feel ecstasy or depressed

Avoiding emotions is a big part of what gets you into depression.

I'm English. I don't do emotion. No one to compare myself with is a huge problem, not an asset. (No idea what an 'H' ibdex is). Working in a vacuum is really hard. What to avoid? Avoid doing something else, about covers it!

I have a supervisor who doesnt do any sort of personal chit chat to get to know one another, every time we have supervision he just launches into work-based conversation and I feel weird that we dont really know anything about each other outside of what I've been working on in the last week.. feels like talking to a robot! Any tips on getting them to be a bit more personable and chatty?😁

He probably had a very bad experience when relationships started to get beyond professional. In the long run, i personally agree with this approach. I think you should respect this and find another outlet.
@sirmclovin9184

Yes, he may not feel comfortable with non-work-related conversations. You could go meta and ask kindly if there is a reason to you only talking about work stuff.

He wants to keep it a purely professional relationship, respect that. If he wanted to know about your personal /social life he would have asked.
@novpriory6624
@novpriory6624 Год назад
@@francishunt562 I understand, but I suppose I believe that there's a part of the supervisory relationship that should be pastoral to some extent, a PhD can be so taxing on (and impacted by) your personal life that to completely ignore that part of it seems risky.

Dr Stapleton, how much time do you recommend spending on revising/rewriting fellow PhD student's academic papers where you are listed as a "cheese author" (i.e somewhere in the middle). Do these papers improve my academic CV enough to warrant spending several working days on them? Or am I better off worrying primarily on my own research activities? Would love to know your thoughts of wisdom. Thanks for all the content.
@DrAndyStapleton
@DrAndyStapleton 2 года назад
Great question. Even "cheesing" on to a paper counts towards your H-index so it is worth spending some time helping to get it over the mark for publication. However, the 1st name/corresponding author papers are mush more valuable to you. I like to help when I have a spare hour or so to provide feedback etc. But do not allow it to take away from valuable time on your own work.
