That's so great to hear! Thank you! So, in terms of choosing a lightbulb, of course it'll be a little guided by the lamp - however, you'll always want to go for a bulb that's labelled as Warm White or Soft White, to get that cosy, inviting look. Also, going for as low a wattage as the lamp can handle will always mean for a slightly less harsh look - less light, but more subtlety, which personally I much prefer!
Love these tips for cosy cottage , love modern country, any interiors advice good to watch is great..ive got grey in my lounge but want to add some of the brown warmer tones that are back in for 2023, any ideas how to do this wihout getting rid of all the light grey walls thinking of adding warmer wood furniture and accessories and art work..but im going back to beige and brown tones for my hallway...
Hi Caroline, Thanks so much! Yes, definitely you can warm the grey up by adding wooden furniture and more textural pieces. I'd also consider adding another colour to anchor the scheme and blend the grey and brown wood tones. A deep olive or rust colour would be excellent for this! Good luck!
@@Tobyshome Thankyou Toby, il try that adding small touches of green . I also have a leather tan colour small sofa too that has tan rust tone... on one side of room already, so maybe im on the right track, im enjoying moody tones and have cream arm chair too..love your style..of interiors and have been moving more towards antique wood, and wood pieces.....myself for the last few years...woll be interested to see mpre of your interior vloggs...
thanks, toby! great suggestions. completely agree with you about using warm lightbulbs. i try to find the amber ones if possible, especially in winter. they give such a warm glow. as for foraging, i am a great forager, especially in the autumn when grasses and flowering plants are drying. my rule is that i can take whatever is on the ground but try not to cut anything if possible. we have lots of fir trees in our area so pine cones (and sometimes even pine branches) are abundant. i can get a fresh supply every year. really enjoyed this particular video and am now going to contemplate curtains as i need new ones this year!
I'm so glad to hear that we're on the same wavelength - I do exactly the same! Oh yes, in the autumn it's absolutely the best, isn't it? I try to do the same, as so much. has already fallen! Thanks so much for watching along!
I really enjoyed this video Toby, we are looking to buy a new home soon and it gives me some tips to consider when decorating the rooms. I love your cottage ❤️
Yes, please, to lightbulb recommendations for lamps. I understood there was a drying process you needed for things like branches and cones? Could be wrong, of course. Also never heard of 'preserved' foliage - could you explain a little more. I love your home and your videos very much. The only thing I would say is that it would be helpful if you provided links to things or when you're talking about the living room curtains perhaps insert a picture at that point so we can see it.
Hi there, of course. Absolutely I'll be making sure images are included in my next video of this kind! Preserved foliage, essentially means flowers or stems that have been treated with something to make them last for a lot longer - almost indefinitely. I have had bunches of preserved eucalyptus, for example, that have lasted for years. With regard to Light Bulb, always go for a warm white - to get a cosier feeling. A low wattage will also stop the lamp from being too bright in the space!
Great video Toby! Thank you for sharing your tips ☺️ Where did you buy your curtains in your kitchen? (Behind you in the video). We’re struggling to know the best place to buys quality Roman blinds xx
You're so welcome Grace - thank you! The blind is actually from John Lewis, though they're discontinued. I actually got them really affordably a few years back. I'd personally say Blinds2go, as a large supplier, is your best bet. They have such a great range, and I've used them in 4 other rooms in the cottage and much prefer them! xx
Hi toby, i struggle with lighting areas could you do a video on that so i can get an idea on shapes, size, colours etc as i dont think out of the box and at this time only have overhead lighting x
Of course! I’d really start with lighting dark corners using lower level lighting, like table lamps. Add them to side tables, consoles and anywhere else! X
I wouldn't say so, if dressed properly and on the right window. I personally don't love the vertical-kind, but horizontal can still look great in the right setting!
