Great advice but very misleading title. I thought you were going to call out 5 specific “Hot Toys” figures. It should’ve been titled “5 types of sixth scale figures to avoid”.
my biggest problem with collecting has been thinking like a completionist and not a fan. i was obsessed with buying EVERY marvel figure to create the biggest MCU display i could but i didnt even enjoy some of the figures i was buying, so i decided to switch it up and start collecting purely the figures of characters i really liked and i'm much happier for it
Does Endgame really need more than four figures max? Thanos, Cap, Thor and Ironman. Those are the only figures I needed. So I agree, only buy characters that you have a real connection with.
I bought Heavy Mando because of everyone hyping it. Ended up being my least interesting figure in the collection, sold it off last month which feels great. That’s a lot of people’s no.1 figure, but not for me!

Mostly due to many wanting many pieces and even going for a companion piece for the collection,(i.e how I got my 1st hot toy which was obi and them saw Cody and bought, then anakin, etc). It can be tricky to manage at times but if you just do the ones you actually like then that's cool
I can’t say I agree concerning no. 5, at least for my own collection. If you have a very specific Star Wars themed display and you suddenly decide that you want to display a Captain Jack Sparrow among the clone troopers, the yes of course I see what you’re coming from. But my collection is such a hodgepodge of different styles and themes that I feel like nothing is out of place, because _everything_ is. in my upstairs room I have most of my guitars on the wall, a couple Hot Toys Jack Nicholson jokers, a 1/6 Michael Jackson, a wooden Black Pearl ship kit, life sized versions of George Clooney Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Jack Sparrow, Boba Fett from The Mandalorian season 2, Iron Man Mark 1, 3, 6, 85, some Ghostbusters props and hopefully soon my Michael Keaton Batman. It becomes less of a collection display per say, and more of an amalgamation of all my interests

Good advice, I actually had to leave collecting for a bit cause I was in too deep. Now I’m back and I make a list and try to weigh out if I really want it or nice to have and space I have.
I’ve been collecting Invicta watches for about 10 years now, sold off most of my collection besides my Star Wars themed ones. Got lucky and snagged one of the limited Kylo Invicta watches at celebration 2019 in Chicago.
I never understood the “what figure should I buy” question. These are high end collectibles. If you’re indecisive and don’t have one or two figures or characters that immediately stand out to you, then maybe you should not collect these or wait until you’re certain before blowing a bunch of cash.

You’ve seen some of the same things I’ve been seeing on Mercari… Figures I might have missed out on, and at a decent price. Well, I pulled the trigger on a few of these to expand my Star Wars collection, first release Mando, Endor Leia, DX16 Maul… And they have ALL turned out GREAT so far!!! I would say if you’re skeptical, Mercari is great for handling that.. Message the seller! Ask for a couple extra pics if you want. It can pay off. 👍
Yep, don't distrust everyone who's new on Mercari. That was me a few weeks back and I offered to show more photos to prove I was legit. That's exactly what the sellers asked for and now I got some good feedback on there
Yup this is definitely great & helpful advice! It’s common sense but sometimes in the heat of the moment we do make dumb decisions based off of FOMO or impatience 😅

I have learned to control myself through time, but I must confess I still struggle with choosing a figure that is the right piece for my collection and let the OCD take over and get everything 😭😂🙊 We definitely must learn to prioritize and look after what we believe we like the most 😉👍

I think a common mistake is ordering too much too soon without getting a few in hand few to see what/if these appeal to you first. I bought way too many 1/6th before I found I much prefer 1/4 statues for most. And multiples of same character that are wasting precious space in my cabinet now that I'll lose money on moving out for characters I don't have now.
I'm definitely considering that last point on my scattered Marvel pieces. I've only got a handful compared to my Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, DC, and even Spider-Man pieces. My random Avengers seem kind of inconsistent and if I were to depart with them I might be able to add more to those collections that are more rounded out.
I literally just did this last month. I have mostly Sh figuarts for Dragonball, but I got a hot toy that doesn’t fit what I collect. However, I just absolutely loved the way the hot toy looked.
Something I generally avoid now is pre-ordering. The time from pre-order to the actual release is long that sometimes I don't want it as much on release. Sometimes when I see the prototype I get so excited how good it looks that maybe it's just hype. So I wait until it releases to see if I still want it. Also sometimes the sculpt isn't as good on release. I have a few figures that looking back at them I am not happy with the sculpt or I got them on an impulse buy. For example I wanted figures from Spider-Man No Way Home, I did not pre-order them. I'm happy I didn't because I don't like the sculpts for Doc Ock, Goblin, Andrew and Tobey. I would like AOTC Anakin, but hopefully the sculpt is good, then I will order. The whole Ahsoka line is good, but wondering if it's just hype and see if I will still want them by release.
Hey, don’t disrespect Sideshow Rex! 😋 It’s still got great shelf presence in 2024 right next to Jedi generals. (But yes, nowadays just get the latest HT version) Good advice all around. I personally go with figures I feel an attachment to, and know I will enjoy for years to come.
Not sure if it's a figure to avoid, but the figure that's almost what you want but not exactly, like a Phase 2 Rex instead of a Phase 1 Rex, and you sit there going back and forth wondering if you should just pick that one up, or hold out and hope the version you actually want will be released some day
I agree with all of this except maybe the last one where a figure should fit in your collection. Now if you are talking space then yes that’s an issue. But my collection is a mix of things I love. I have Hot Toys, Neca, and a select number of statues all from different properties I love. I don’t stick to just one or two properties.
Loved the video and sound advice, would love to see you talk about the 6th scale figures that have blown up in price since they were released like the Jedha Patrol troopers (all three variants MMS 386, 392 and 394 are all going for stupid money mow), and figures like the much older Sideshow Gamorrean Guards that are now going for 1/4 scale prices these days and are crying out for a Hot Toys release...

These youtubers let you know that when they get a new revenue stream, they suddenly have another expensive collection they want to expand to. It's either coffee, liquor, watches or cars. They think we care when all we're here for are for the toys.
Do you expect them to start separate channels for each hobby so you don’t have to hear about it? Would you like a warning before each video that says “warning, this video may contain content that hasn’t been entirely tailored to your particular interest today, watch at your own emotional peril.”?
It feels like Hot Toys is starting to lose it’s popularity due to their over reliance on Marvel and Mandalorian and third party companies are becoming more popular
I Definitely don’t buy based on what other people like or what any channels like yours say. I do use them to get a better idea of a figure I was thinking of ordering or already have on PO but not in hand yet . Perfect example for both of us is the Punisher War machine, I had it on PO remember watching your video on it and u gave it high praise, which it fully deserves. But yeah I was super excited for that figure, never really played the game but 1: I enjoyed the comic run a lot, punisher is one of my top 3 favorite characters and gave us cosmic ghost rider eventually 2: is an amalgamation of all amazing things, Punisher obviously, then if like me and have a good amount of iron man figures. Which HT makes a new one every month so I’m assuming they sell good and also every HT collector has 2-3 iron mans. He is The Godfather of the mcu, and then of course war machine aspect which is always been one of the most aesthetically awesome/ badass characters. Been enamored with him since I 1st laid eyes at the arcade playing marvel capcom and he came out with huge shoulder cannons. So to a few other points u made I one thought was going to sell out and fast and two go up on secondary. Neither happened, that was what 2 years ago at least and it’s still available sadly. Was an amazing figure, if you do have an iron man display/shrine like iron patriot or another war machine breaks up the display a little while sticking to the armored characters, adds contrast. And just a great Frank castle head sculpt all the weapons. Yeah a figure I love and wanted from day one but apparently me and you are the exception on that guy.
Definitely dating myself with how long been watching you for, a few years now. I remember I found gems channel first then you then Justin way back when I was still frugal and only window shop mostly. Now u guy’s created a monster lol
The third suggestion in this video is spot on. There are some collectors here on YT that hype every figure like it's the greatest thing ever made and it's gonna sell out in 2 weeks if you do not buy now.
Justin, Jedha, The hot toys “wizard” all of them are part of the problem. They all created that bullshit and now have slowly started to backtrack. Granted Jedha backtracked first a long while ago and props to him for that
I remember when I started saving up for the raiders Indiana Jones hot toy figure I lost the passion for it and decided to buy the Batman returns Batman figure instead because I liked the character more, I don’t regret that. I plan to pick up the amazing Spider-Man 2 Spider-Man and raimi Spider-Man.
I have a rule. I see a lot of figures that I find to be ones I want. LEGO as well. I wait, a week a month before even considering getting it. I find that way I know it’s because I want it and not because of any of your 5 reasons.
Great advice bro👍. I've made everyone of those mistakes. And still make them except it's me dealing with myself.But I gotta say I wrestled around with getting Venom for a couple weeks. Probably shouldn't of got him. Way over paid ( I did it in trade ) Not cash but I gotta say it's now probably my favorite 1/6 in my collection. 👍

I blew my rent on a dx 08 and dx 11 joker 😅 I make good money so I knew I'd be ok to pay it late but still was definitely a wake up call that I need to be smarter with this hobby or else I'll get in trouble and I'll lose my enjoyment. This video is great 👍

All of my hot toys are women. Now I’m afraid getting a male character will ruin the flow 😅 I want The Batman, Endgame Captain America, & Helmeted Thor from Love & Thunder. I have a Stormtrooper but I just imagine it as a female trooper
