James, I really appreciate your reviews. Your much better than others. My only critique is your testing environment. BLACK background, BLACK table, BLACK dish, even the handles of many of the scoops are BLACK. Everything seems to disappear into themselves. But I really love yours and Brandon's reviews.

Well it did demonstrate the issue with how you're supposed to use it. Once the ice cream gets low, it's hard to use it as designed. I own it (wedding gift) and for the first few scoops from a container it's amazing! As it gets lower, you have to use it a little more traditionally and it's not much better than the 2nd most expensive.

I would also factor their construction (solid, hollow, hollow with weight) and material (full stainless steel or part plastic)
@jennywren76
@jennywren76 5 лет назад
Definitely, I don't want a cheap one that flakes off into my kids ice cream. I also want it to be solid so I can just throw it in the dishwasher. The ones with rubber/plastic handles tend to get water inside the handle after washing in the dishwasher or if it's in a sink full of water while hand washing dishes. It's pretty gross. I'm going to give the expensive one a try because I have wrist/thumb problems and it doesn't seem to have a handle that will harbor dirt/germs.

It seems the 35 dollar scoop was at a disadvantage based on your scooping technique. I understand you want to get a good shot for the camera but it looks to be designed so you thrust it in from above using your entire arm's force and then scoop the ice cream out of a container that is stable and flat on the table. I'd like to see another with the antifreeze liquid filled, heated, and don't do the scooping in the same order as before. Then a throwdown, the top two of this round, top two of each other round, and just getting ice cream over a series of days, and not all in one shot. The final throwdown can be like the revisit episodes you do where you revisit products months later.

@Kinkajou1015
@Kinkajou1015 5 лет назад
@@bloodman098 I'm not the professional reviewer, James White is. Scientific or not the product should be rated on it's merits by using it according to it's directions. I'm concerned the product was not reviewed fairly and I think Midnight Scoop is as well considering their messages on this video. Would you say a motor boat that you only paddle with oars isn't a good boat because the motor didn't do its job when you didn't even try to use it? No you'd actually use the motor, and then if it failed to perform you would complain about it.
@Miheyu
@Miheyu 5 лет назад
@@bloodman098 it might be just an ice cream scoop, but how can you give a product a bad review when you can't even follow the directions on how it's supposed to be used?! There are too many "review" channels on RU-vid for this kind of bullshit and i'm sick of people just letting it go! Why should we give his opinions any merit when he can't be bothered to research anything or learn how to use a product that he OBVIOUSLY feels entitled enough to voice his opinion on?! I miss the days when content creators actually had to take pride in their work. The days when quality content and dedication to their craft was how we measured success. But maybe I'm just old fashioned
@bloodman098
@bloodman098 5 лет назад
Okay like I said if you don't like his review you can do it yourself or better yet just not watch this channel. He's literally reviewing icecream scoops and you two are bitching about how he didn't read the directions or didn't use them properly. This has to be the absolute dumbest argument I've ever had with someone. Bitching about a video and or a Creator and how they review a product because they didn't do it to your standards is probably the dumbest thing you can do even if this video wasn't about something as trivial as icecream scoops. If you really want a better more scientific review on something this clearly isn't the channel. This platform is huge I guarantee you'll find a better channel with more dedicated people reviewing items. If you still can't then make your own review. That's the problem with people now a days they just bitch about how something isn't up to their current standards and don't fucking do anything about it.

I’m a 71+ year old woman and I have to tell you that I have your lowest rated opener (mine is two-tone lime green) and I can open really, really tight soda bottle caps with mine. I just move my hand up to where the lid fits and it works. Also, I have a small hand and some openers are just too wide. Only once did I have to ask my hubby to open a pop bottle - and even he couldn’t - so he went for the channel locks - worked like a charm. I need to remember that when he’s not around. And since I’ve become so wordy I will also say that I can open almost anything if I just give the top a couple whacks in the floor or counter - breaks the seal and all is well. I just discovered your reviews and I love them - you do a super job! Thanks.

I know it sounds nuts, but scooped ice cream just tastes better! Oh, I have your $35 scoop beat! I have the Pampered Chef scoop and it is the absolute best! It's got liquid in the handle which heats up the scoop to melt the ice cream as you scoop it. The best ice cream scoop you'll ever own. I'm the sort of person that doesn't mind investing a little in a product that'll last me a long time. That $35 one looks like one solid piece and performed noticeably faster and easier than the kitchen aid. Not only that it did seem to sit in your hand better. It's obvious you don't need to use hot water with it or any other sort of trick and it even kinda seems like the sort of thing you'd eventually pass down, almost like a good set of cast iron skillets. It may seem silly to think such things, yet I'm sure we've all had some little thing passed down to us from relatives that's been kept around simply because it works super well. I've never liked the idea of electric scoops, having to warm the scoop, etc or having to wait for my ice cream to soften and I'm more than happy to spend $35 once on an item that'll last a lifetime if it works as well as it did here and is as solidly made as it appears to be. So many items these days seem to be cheaply made trash that you replace every couple of years at most or you just end up suffering through them having worn down and work less well, that $35 scoop does not seem to be one of those.

While still a decent brand. They’ve gone way way down hill over the past decade. They have some great stuff but a lot of it is just meh now. And they have some absolute stinkers. This isn’t the kitchen aid my grandma use to use.

They're all being made in China now, same with Farberware. Almost everything is made in China now and the quality, or rather lack thereof, has suffered greatly.

In the future if you are going to do something like ice cream that gets easier and more melted over time it would be nice if you reversed the order on the second ice cream so that the most expensive was going first.

I have one I bought at a grocery store about 10 years ago that works well because it's pointed on the end so enters the ice cream pretty easily. Think it was in the "good cooks" line but could be mistaken.

I got one like they use in most ice cream shops at a restaurant supply. No plastic handle or seams and if you warm it under hot water it works just like they do in shops where they do the same thing.

I ended up looking for ice cream scoops a couple months ago. Ended up getting a gas coolant self-release scoop for $10AUD ($7USD), and it's the best scoop we've ever used. Easy to scoop, easy to create ice cream balls, and self-releases.

we got a filled scoop for my parents cafe yrs ago and I went use anything else. they have liquid either water or antifreze type agent in a cast aluminum body with a plug at the bottom. mine has no name on it anymore. but I have seen the same type sold other places. I have severe arthritis and it still is no problem my 10 yr has cerebral palsy and can use it as well. please try those.

You should have the scoops in a bowl of warm water, and give them a quick shake in the warm water after scooping.

My family has always used a zeroll 1012 with the warming oil inside. (often called antifreeze) They have been used for literal decades since my great great grandmother's diner. They last through everything and have been dropped, beat up, hammered, and washed half a billion times. We have two and the size 12 is our favorite and a quick shake to get your body heat to the oil quickly lets you scoop hard ice cream and sinks into it like clay.

We have 2 styles of ice cream scoops at home. One is a similar style to your dollar-store special, but with a stout wooden handle (it was a wedding present 35+ years ago, and is still my favorite); the other (also a gift, but more recent) has a pliers-type handle, and the scooping end is in 2 sections which fit together puzzle-piece-style when the handle is gripped closed. I'd like to see something similar in design to that 2nd scoop of mine in an "Ice Cream Scoops Part 2".

I'd say my wood-handled scoop is probably closest to the KitchenAid scoop you liked so much (although I'm sure it wasn't a KitchenAid).

I've tried all the different styles. The ones with the steel wiper were worn out long before the the lever ejector style which you did not review. I saw you using your finger to get the ice cream off the spoon style scoop which is why I don't use them. The hemispherical lever scoops produce a nice round scoop suitable for cones and a pleasing uniform appearance in a dish. A bowl of hot water does help but there are extra steps (heat the water, dip the scoop, clean the container).

the scoops shaped like the dollar store and the kitchenaid scoops are meant to scoop on the side of the scoop not the front. the second scoop should also be from the side the bar is on that pushes it out. you should run them under water and dip regularly for easy scooping. you should know these things having worked at an ice cream place. my dad was a soda jerk in the 50's, he taught me how to scoop ice cream.

The biggest criticism I’ve had on ice cream scoops is that when serving a family, the ice cream doesn’t release from the scoop after it’s been used a while. Rinsing with hot water helps, but the heated or liquid filled get the job done quicker.

I worked before in a restaurant. The chefs used a non stick scoop the price is 7.50 on Amazon. Put to hot water before to use and your job is easier whit this. Do not try to grab a whole ball. Just create little shavings like a roll inside the icecream scoop and it is will be make a ball shape. Ok, for this need a little practice but who are eat often icecream is quickly realize how it works. Easy can do for a chef because a chef many times to do it daily. The safety shoes tests are great. So informative about which shoe never by. Thx.

I’m an Okie and we have a dairy in Oklahoma that also has a chain of ice cream and dairy stores in Oklahoma and a few other surrounding states. It’s called Braum’s. It has my favorite scoop. I moved to Arizona in 2010 but a few years back after being disappointed and dissatisfied with all the other scoops I tried I made it a point that the next time I was in a state with a Braum’s I’d go by and pick up a scoop and bring it back with me. I’ve seen scoops that look identical to it but they never work quite as well as the one from Braum’s. Also they have my favorite ice cream that I can only get when I’m in that area.

Although excessive, I think you should have one whole thing of ice cream for each scoop and take them out of the freezer one by one for each test. Ice cream melts fast, and it gets softer by the second.

I have a Faberware one but it has a push mechanism inside that pushes out the ice cream better from the scoop. It's probably not the basic model though that you had during your test and can't remember where I purchased it and for how much (it was many years ago). That being said, I never really use the scoop since I never eat ice cream myself, but it's there if I ever buy ice cream for any guests. I do leave the ice cream out on the counter for at least 5 minutes though to allow it to soften just enough for easier scooping. Now I feel like going out and buying ice cream... go figure lol :D Love your vids!

The quick release scoops were really used for precise measurements of food not always ice cream. In fact I used it for mashed potatoes and cookies often enough when I was working as a chef
