The 85 f2 is my go to walk around lens. It’s like, creates a nice bokeh and just enough reach to get in on further away subjects for street photography.
@@AnthonyGugliotta same here. I got both with my R6 II at the end of November, such a good duo. I posted an awesome shot I took with the 24-105 a few hours ago, it’s sooooo good.
I suggest 600mm F11 for taking moon and wildlife. It does struggle at low light but inexpensive and major advantage is light weight compared to other bazooka long range lenses so I can take for traveling
I do have expensive glass and won’t deny that it’s “better”, but when I want small, light, and better than good enough, the non-L RF glass is awesome. RF 16/35/85 paired with an OG R body is my go to for travel.
This is great - for a full frame body. Everything shifts a big w/ the APS-C bodies. The 50 mm becomes the 85 equivalent, the 24 becomes that 35 mm, etc.
Good to see someone mention the focus limiter on the 85F2. That lens gets a lot of negative comments about slow focus but the focus switch makes a bigger difference with that lens than any other I've used. My go-to for most weddings is the 85F2 and 351.8. Great video.
Great combo, and agreed! It's absolutely necessary to use the focus control. Get those macro shots of rings when you need em, but then flip the switch and shoot the couple from the far aisle during the ceremony! :)
In the Canon world, the best value right now IMO is an R6 mark I paired with a 24-105 f4L, 16 2.8, and 50 1.8. Better if you can get these second hand. Use the 24-105 most of the time; the R6 low light is fantastic and shooting at F4 is no problem except in the darkest of environments. Use the 16 when you really need ultra wide coverage. Use 50 for low-light and shallow DOF portraits. This whole kit can cover pretty much all situations except professional sports/birding, while maintaining a very low size/weight profile.
Anthony my man, you missed the RF 28mm pancake. I wanna get your thoughts on that lens. For my current setup I have the RF85 and the RF16 on the R8 body. Rate my setup
Excellent review. My only disagreement is regarding your quick dismissal of the 24-105 4-7.1 STM. Yes, it’s variable aperture and not weather sealed but there is virtually no difference in image quality from the RF 24-104 f/4 L IS. I’ve done many, many comparisons on the occasions where I’ve had both . Try it.
I have an r10 (aps-c), originally swapped out the kit lens for the 50mm rf lens from canon. Whilst I can can get some great photos with this is found I really needed a wider lens, so I got the TTartisan 25mmF2. This lens isn't bad, but I find it has a bit too much 'character' for my liking.. I'd like to replace the TTartisan with either the RF 24mm or RF 35mm. Opinions??? Also looked at the F0.95 35mm from TTartisan, the price is very attractive but I'm not sure this will solve my issues with the 25mm I currently own. Anyone got any thoughts on this? I was curious as to why in this video, the recommendations for aps-c sensor cameras where the 16mm and 24mm but not 35mm. Is the 24mm worth double the price of the 16mm?
I literaly bought today a Pentacon 29mm 2.8 for 30euros... And you can get a full set for 100! 50mm 1.8. and 135mm... All cost some 30 euros. If you have nothing. This is gonna be amazing. And also interesting, vintagy! And probably better than 24 105 wich i definetly dont reconmend buying. Its big. And doesnt perfom that good. Its ok for video shooting because zoom and stabilizastion. Thus documentary work is possible. Thats it. That is literaly the only thing that lens is capable of... documentary shooting. 28-135 is as good for video as 24 105 is... but costs 1\4 ... Other than that, definetly better buying any prime lenss and not a zoom!!!
I wanna get the 50mm because of it's low light capaabilities. However, I will be using it for film making. I don't mind it having no stabilization since my camera does hav In body stabilization. would you recommend this? i'm using an APSC sensor as well so It's gonna get cropped. I wanted to go for the 35mm but its alot more expensive than the noifty fifty.
I’d also like to add the RF 100-400 f5.6-8. For an inexpensive telephoto the results are nice and it’s fast enough to track small wildlife like birds and shoot sports.. suffers a bit in low light but with the right light it’s great!
great tip - I went with the 70-200 F4 (another great option) but have tried the 100-400 and been very impressed with the image quality, especially considering it is half the price of the 70-200
When I brought my Canon R8 I immediately purchased the RF 24mm, 35mm and 85mm macro lenses as I do landscape photography but I also like shooting photos of plants, flowers, insects etc so I appreciated the close focusing and macro capabilities. I also brought the 24-105 F4 thinking I would benefit from also having a zoom lens to cover everything in between plus a bit of extra reach, but I ended up returning it as it's simply not as sharp as the non-L prime lenses despite it costing 3 times as much as one of those lenses. So I brought the 70-200 F4 instead and I find that to be a truly excellent lens which pairs really well with the wider focal length primes. With the 70mm at the wide end it also covers the gap between my 35mm and 85mm nicely and doesn't compromise on image quality.
@@Stan_the_Belgian The RF 70-200 f4 and 85 f2 are equally as sharp. It’s hard to tell them apart. If you want more bokeh with the 70-200 you can shoot at a longer focal length so it looks more like an f2. It’s a more versatile lens with L series build quality but it costs a lot more.
Hey Anthony, thanks a lot for the video is really good for begginers like us, I wanted to ask you, would you use the 35mm for northern lights shooting? 🤔
Recently got a rf 28 f2.8 pancake lens and it is really surprisingly sharp and something about 28 feels really good to shoot with. Definitely would recommend you look into it.
I shot nothing but film until a few years ago. I have a used R6 and a new R8. I have the 24-105 f4L which stays on my R6 most of the time. The R8 I switch lenses quite often. I have the 16 f1.8, 50 f1.8 I recently bought a used 100-400 EF 4.5-5.6L USM IS. The 16 and 50 are excellent lenses if you want to do more post-work. I still use my Mamiya RB67 medium format camera. It will be a long time if, ever I will be able to afford a medium format digital camera. I do not shoot professionally anymore I am getting ready to retire and might dip my toe back in when I have more time. The review of all of these lenses are spot on. Just buy the body and get one or two of these lenses and you will be happy. I will back up what he says about the 24-105 f4-7.1 kit lens do not waste your money on it.
hello i have a cannon vixia RF80 and i shoot myself talking.. religious educational videos... 10 ft away and need a lens to get waist up.. im 6'3" also i can only get chest up right now using a 0.43 lens....Please any help !!! Im old and this is very difficult for me lol....thank you
Hello Master: Please help and give me some advice, The camera I am currently using is Canon EOS R10, The kit lens used with it is (RF-S18-150mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM) My main subject matter is toy photography. The secondary shooting content is street photography or portrait photos. Now I want to buy new lenses, after watching your video, Want to be in Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM and RF85mm F2 Macro IS STM or RF 35mm 1.8 STM After making a choice, I would like to ask you to give me some advice on which lens is more suitable for me? Thank you.🙏🙏🙏
I have the canon R50 and I’m confused between the 24mm and 35mm lens. Any suggestions? I like the 24mm FOV on APSC but I’ve heard the 35mm is a better lens
35mm on an R50 is a great all around option. The 24mm is better for tighter spaces, but yes I’ve also heard the 35mm is better. Plus, the 24mm is bulkier.
I just upgraded my self and bought canon eos r And I want to start taking jobs What should i buy? A new rf 24-105 f4 or old 24-70 mkii with an adapter? I would appreciate it if you could respond with a short
Hello Anthony, Great and informative video, please I would really appreciate it if you read my comment and reply. I do cooking videos and I would like to find Sony camera lens that is able to take 4k image to a cooking pan from about a meter away to avoid the heat and the splashing oil but at the same time to be able to zoom very close to get a micro image to the ingredients. I would really appreciate your help.
Hello Anthony, Great video! Would you be able to suggest me a lens for my EOS R50. I need do video interview and some event photography and I am kinda on a tight budget. Thank you,
Canon 85mm f1.2 is useless bokeh what we have done with tons of bokeh😅 for the colseup totally over bokeh every RU-vidrs tasting on f1.8 f2 f2.8 y ? Becus the f1.2 is useless only good for full body shots & cowboy 🤠 shouts.
I treated myself to the R50 for my birthday and to tell you I'm lost is an understatement. I've never had a camera with a detachable lens. I'm going traveling for 9months and I'm wondering what lens would you recommend for night time shoots and wide angle as I love city/landscape photography?
For me, I have the 15-35mm as you have, but on some travels I really feel like a 24mm (I like the wider angle) will be enough, so though I'm not really on a budget I do want that 1 lens I can easily travel with (in terms of weight) but I do wait for a sale on it lol. And your video helped me be more sure that I do want the 24mm, Thanks!
Can someone help me decide between the R7 and the R8? Mostly going to be doing street photography and family / vacation use? And no, I can’t save up for the R6 II with a $21K lens lol
I currently have an APS-C DSLR (250D) and want to buy new lenses but I also want to be able to upgrade the camera body later on. So my questions is : do you think I have to worry about investing in EF lenses when Canon seems to have stopped DSLR production ?
Hey im looking for a reliable hight quality lens for vertical video specifically reels for a social media content job i own the 50mm f1.2 prime but looking for something wider which one would you recommend im using a canon r50 btw i know not the best 😅 looking to upgrade my body in the future
I am looking to upgrade my camera kit sooner rather than later, and if I compare this video to your recommendation for photography beginners I see that this one is for Full frame cameras(as the RF series), though most of your canon recommendations in that video were for the APS-C camera series. What would you recommend in this case? I am stepping up from an EOS M100 with 2 kit lenses. Thanks!
I love the Assertor as it gives off that feeling of an actual battleship with it being covered in gun battery clusters and the layered guns on the superstructure of the ship, I can just picture this ship moving into a group of smaller ships and just wrecking them with overwhelming fire from every angle as both port and ventral sides are almost equally armed.
Im in a position to upgrade from my Canon M50 MII kit lens. Im looking for a lens to record haircuts and vlogging. What are some good options for those still shot videos and/or vlogging? Thanks.
The video was really helpful thank you! When you said that 35mm was giving that really "natural looking" vibe were you talking for both sensors or one in particular ?
I think this year the thing I'll spend some real money is will most likely be new lenses. I'm currently running with an M6 Mark II and love it! This video was helpful for sure though. Gives me a lot to consider on what to look into.
Urgh still tempted by Red Ring but even for EF adapted its still very expensive! Working towards two camera body with probably the 85 and 35. Oh and anyone have any thoughts on the RF28mm pancake?
Question, how good is a 24-105 f4 on a crop censor… I’ve been reluctant to buy it because it’s f4 and I feel any low light situation will give me crap results. However f4 on a range that would be 36 to 150 in full frame is quite exciting.
If the price is right I'd say go for it! I shot with an old EF 24-105 (non-L) on crop DSLR for a season. My only regret was not having enough on the wide end, but I was primarily shooting subjects that were far away so it worked for me.
The image quality, focus speed and build quality of the EF 24-105 L ( I have the mark ii) are very good. The only negative is the size is a bit long once the adapter is added.
What would you recommend an intermediate to professional photographer looking to commercialise his craft? Is the Canon R8 enough or shall I go with the Canon R6 Mark ii?
I know pros who use the R8. I would honestly try picking up both in a camera store. The R8 is a smaller camera which some people like and some people don't like. Also decide whether or not you need IBIS (the R8 doesn't have IBIS)
