@@ebassguitar He's the one I studied as a young bass player. I lived in Cleveland and the Detroit Motown station was broadcast from across the Detroit River in Windsor, Canada. They didn't have the broadcast power restrictions the US had and, as a result, in the Cleveland area we heard the latest Motown songs the day they were put out. CKLW radio. The US had a 50,000 watt maximum whereas Canada had 100,000 watts.

The amazing thing about Mr. Jamerson was that he didn't just play "riffs" or patterns, but a lot of his best work keeps changing and giving a different feel to the tune, harmonizing with the melody etc etc. It's very contrapuntal, like baroque music.

Got here because of James Jamerson, but got hooked because of his eyebrows. I mean seriously, is that even real?! My wife is gonna envy him, she may wouldn't have to pencil her brows anymore if she got that kind of brows. Nice playing btw, imma got my bass and practice.

How are you keeping other strings from ringing (muting) when playing a note? I see you don't use the floating thumb technique with the right hand and the fingers of your left hand don't look flat enough to the strings to stop ringing either.Are you using the 3rd finger of your right hand? I've been playing a couple of years but still have trouble stopping annoying string ringing at times.

My muting is a combination of left and right hand Most of the heavy lifting is done with the left hand... yet when I’m play a d g strings I rest the plucking hand thumb on the e string Make sense?

If your thumb is on the E string when playing a G string note that won't stop the D string from ringing.So your plucking finger must hit the D string after playing the E string note.Right?

@@bassforkids4504I use my third finger to mute the string above the plucked string. But it’s so momentary and subtle I didn’t even realize I was doing it for years! Sometimes it’s my pinky on my fretting hand(left). But very subtle. If you’re not careful and quick enough to get it out of the way, it can end up being an inadvertent harmonic played!

Yep I B and a Cb are the same pitch. Look up enharmonics and it’ll give you the theory behind that choice :-)

Another great lesson, but for the love of God get a P-Bass, put some heavy flats on it and put your plucking fingers up by the neck, as if the pickup cover was on there. Great channel!

With all due respect, you speak so fast and the sound is so unclear, even through headphones, that after listening about 10 times to understand what you said it was easier to copy the notes by ear than to figure out if you had said D or E or G. Seeing the TAB (without having to subscribe) would have been great. Sometimes giving away something little for free gives you much more in return. Cheers!

Hi Franz Thanks for your feedback. I’ve had a listen to it and to me the audio sounds clear and I’m just speaking at my normal pace. In recent videos we’ve using on screen tab more. 200 videos in on this RU-vid Channel I’m comfortable I’ve given plenty away for free and continue to do so every single week. Exchanging an email is a small thing to do in return to get something is obviously valuable to you and ultimately means we can build the rest of the business. Without that it would be impossible to give away the quantity of free resources we do.

Obviously the content is valuable to me being a beginner bass player and it was the first time I stumbled upon your videos. I'm not aware of how much you have given away for free. My experience teaching classes in three languages is that sometimes one's pace is too fast for others and you are building an international business. Your customers might be translating in their head while trying to understand your class... It is simply meant to be constructive criticism. Cheers and good luck!

All cool! 80% of our market is North America. We do get students who first language isn’t English... but my experience has been that music is quite a technical subject so their level of English has to be good to begin with. Good luck and please enjoy the rest of the channel :-)

As an ardent observer of acoustics and clear communications, being a sound engineer as well, intelligibility is crucial in my world. Cadence can make or break intelligibility many times, but here, I would say that our caterpillar browed friend is doing a fine job. He even takes the time to explain each and every note, at least once usually, and even the relative cadence as well, and on top of that, he does it in a way where most people wouldn’t be getting impatient and waiting on the next part. My advice is to take advantage of this new technology we have at our disposal, the future world of “replay”. Be careful though. You can’t go back and slow down before that cop catches you doing 110mph in a 55mph zone, the classic double double nickel, my favorite daily exercise. You also can’t unspeak those words in anger, nor re-choose who you fall in love with, nor which world leader/despot (in your mind at least) that you assasinate, so Lee Harvey you cannot be, but a bass pupil you are. Absorb and relish the knowledge forthwith. Lest ye dawdle upon the miscarriage of observation through thoust haste. Fear not, for rhythm and blues is within, release the treasure from your own heart. Patience is for the learned. The tempest knows only woe.
