This might be my favorite Disney song ever. As someone who has an autistic condition that prevents me from being social, preferring to be alone, and outside and away from the crowd. This song really speaks to me on a personal level, as does Elsa. Its an amazing sensation to go from being in a crowd of strangers, and going somewhere where you get just Let that fear Go and be alone.
uncensorer Its not "oh people won't like me because I have autism." Its my autism telling my brain "STAY AWAY FROM PEOPLE!" why brain? "BECAUSE! STAY AWAY!" but I want to go out and... "EMERGENCY SHUT DOWN!!!"
"A kingdom of isolation and it looks like I'm the queen" is one of the most profound verses of all Frozen songs. It summarizes Elsa's life in a nutshell, it's just perfect.
There's a word for a movie that is also a musical. It's called "a musical." Quite a few of Disney's movies have been like that. Aladdin, Lion King, Pocahontas. All of them had a strong musical side as well.
Elsa is one of the most complex character Disney ever designed. She's trying to be strong for everyone but inside she's still a little girl scared by her "curse", scared to hurt someone and to be rejected.
FearTheFluffiness That's why I love this movie so much: 1. you can't find true love in one night, 2. love between siblings is as much important 3. Feel, don't think too much and 4. You don't need anyone's strenght but yours (Anna pretty much saves herself). These are really good morals to pass to the next generation, instead of the "Leave the sewing to the women!" of Cinderella and Co.
Necrovoker Cinderella has very manly mice helping sewing a dress. :P I have not seen any of the Disney girls not fight for what they believe in. They all walk down the roads that they choose. I don't think that any of the Disneyprinces will get away with; "Make me a sandwich, woman", without getting punched in the face, hard. When saving Elsa, I kind of expected Anna to punch Hans in the face before turning into a block of ice. XD
FearTheFluffiness i think necrovoker meant that unlike other disney princess anna didn't need the prince's kiss to save her she saved herself by saving her sister, who she truly loves
Say what you want about this song, it was still awesome enough for Frozen to be the first Disney film in history to win not one, but two Oscar awards. This song literally put Disney back on top.
Not to discredit Frozen, but The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, and Pocahontas actually all won two Oscars awards for best original score and best original song. This was back when the academy considered musicals eligible for the category.
CobiVonSchweetz She means that the fact that Elsa later learns that her 'Letting Go' means that she did the exact same things she feared, hurting people. Also at the beginning, 'Don't let them in, don't let them see, be the good girl you always have to be, don't let them know, well now they know' expresses the fact that her father tried to suppress who she was, despite the fact that fer father loved her (which is absolutely heartbreaking, the fact that your father loves you, but doesn't love/fears who you are). I'm not sure what her mother thought of it, though it hints that she was afraid of people fearing her baby, thus making Elsa hide her powers "A kingdom of isolation, and it looks like I'm the Queen. Couldn't keep it in, heaven knows I've tried." Says outright that she had been trying to hide and suppress her powers and who she was for a very long time, and also "And the fears that once controlled me, can't get to me at all" and "I don't care what their going to say" Not only hints at her crushing fear of hurting people, but also people not accepting her, and she never had that fear until she almost killed her sister. "The cold never bothered me anyway" and "The perfect girl is gone" also hints severely that she somewhat resents her parents for making her hide who she was, a playful ice witch who loved the cold and winter (also chocolate), instead making her to be a perfect princess full of diplomacy and grace ("No right no wrong, no rules for me, I'm free" hints at her being disciplined to be something her parents wanted her to be instead of what she was supposed to be). It is rather sad, if you think of the lyrics and what they mean. It's rather deep for a kids movie. If you're still here, thanks for reading :P
Sorry, but I got to say this. It's just I love how in the song, each "Let It Go" is different. Like the first time she sings it she is aware that maybe her powers are worth something. Maybe she shouldn't hide any more. The second time she sings the part "Let It Go" she is amazed with her abilities, with what she's capable of. She looks at it like it's art. Thus, she begins building with it. Then the third and final time she sings it, she is accepting of herself and is finally able to put her past behind her and "Let It Go". I'm sorry this is just such a great song!
I love this song because it shows Elsa letting go of her powers and beginning to stop being afraid of them. The lyrics are meaningful and beautifully sung. The graphics of the scene were excellent. The ice and snow were animated so beautifully. Thank you Disney for making a musical that wasn't trash and reminded me of classic Disney movies.
@@nitpat929 that comment was written before hamilton came out, and also the only reason hamilton is on disney+ is probably because lin manuel miranda has worked multiple times with disney.
"The cold never bothered me anyway." Well, Elsa, I wish those of us who got hit by the polar vortex last year and earlier this year could say the same.
In a parallel universe where the movie is based around Elsa plunging the world into eternal summer, I'd be saying the same as you about the heat since I live in Australia, where you can fry an egg on the middle of the road.
Couldn't stop smiling at this scene in the cinema. Idina is amazing, definetely the perfect choice for Elsa. and, is it just me or do I think that if Elsa met Elphaba they would be best friends?
Personally, I couldn't stop crying at this scene in the cinema. Frozen is one of the (if not the) first animated movies to actually make me cry... more than once.
This song is so great!!! It really shows her feelings of how she felt. She was finally able to let her powers go and didn't have to hold her powers back anymore. I loved when she said "the cold never bothered me anyways" she looked so badass. When she transformed to her true self too, she was so beautiful!!!
Elsa is my favourite Disney princess ever. She feels like the only one that had insecurities. The others aimed to prove themselves worthy, save their family, help others or live out their dreams, which are all noble aspiration and I admire them too. But Elsa struggled with issues ever person faces, accepting herself for who she is, especially for everything that made her so different. It felt like looking at myself in the mirror. This song is so powerful.
@@AdolCoffee The "Disney Princess" label applies to the female protagonists of Disney feature films, royalty or otherwise. Mulan (1998) is not a princess.
***** I say Wreck it Ralph was disney's best animated movie while Frozen is the best musical. But the best animated movie at least to me- Rise of the guardians.
I had to burry my dog yesterday and I needed a movie to cheer me up. So I went to this. When this song came on, it gave me hope, inspiration and happiness. It put a smile on my face after burying my beloved friend. As much as I will miss St. Paulie, I have to let it go and look forward to the future and the past is in the past. thank you Frozen:)
My outlook on the movie the first time around: Before song: "Oh great. She's scared of her own shadow. That's the most likable kind of character; said no one ever." After song: "Best character ever. 10/10 would totally favorite her."
Well the thing is that no video's on the internet work and that netflix... let's just say i dont use netflix that often and finaly the cinema's dont show the movie anymore however as soon as i can i will
Watch32.com also has this movie for you to watch. The quality is pretty good although it won't be to the standard in theaters. But yeah, the reviews really praise this movie!!
I love both versions, While Idinai's version does has so much power and emotions. Demi has a similar past connections as Elsa, so when she sings you can sense the power she gives off when singing.
Yes but she HAS to put emotion in it becuase it's for a musical, and she is singing as her character. Demi didn't have to do that. Ps: excuse my english
MegaFriendlyCreeper Oooh we could have Elsa as like Iron Man(cause the both shoot out stuff from their hands I guess) and Rapunzel as Captain America!!
Frozen Heart is probably up there for me, if only because I wasn't especially interested in seeing the movie (went because family went) and starting with that one really just got me into it instantly.
I think people have got so annoyed at the memes they have lost sight of the issue. The song is NOT bad, it's the fanatic fans that are being a pain. Stay on target and know where to direct your anger. Or alternatively you could just ignore the memes and enjoy the film on it's own merits?
I'm not even aware of the memes. I watched this movie for the first time a few days ago and LOVE it! So you're exactly right. People can't let others ruin things for them.
I lived through the Frozen craze of 2013-2015. I get the frustration with the movie being overwhelmingly present in popular culture and merchandise. It really was everywhere, there was no escaping it. It becomes a bit grating to watch the same movie over again, and hear the same songs. And yet, ten years later, I can actually appreciate it on its own merits, outside of its initial popularity. It's a pretty good movie. I know it's a bit of a punching bag for people who prefer "underrated Disney classics" and the Renaissance films (cough Schafrillas cough), but the movie was popular for a reason: it's really good. In music, animation, character, voice acting, and themes. It's a bonafide Disney classic, as is this song.
I know how you feel. I only watched the movie one time. Good one and done. But i still respect Disney for giving us a magical love story between sisters. The craze wanted me to let it stop. In spite of Olaf's Frozen Adventure, i didn't feel motivated to continue as a fan of Elsa and Anna. But i already loved Let It Go before seeing the movie.
Every time I listen to this song, I cant help thinking how trapped Elsa must have felt in her own castle and now she's finally free, but also, she never even considered being with Anna again because she was so afraid she would hurt her little sister again and had decided she was going to live all alone in her ice castle :'(
well all i mean is her frozen castle represents her isolation she imposed on herself from her sister. so it's tragic and lonely but also beautiful, considering the beauty of her power. so in the end she's able to live with both the love of her sister and the beauty of her powers which is a happy ending, but the ice palace is a mediphor for her isolation, considering she says herself that she is the queen of a kingdom of isolation, and she literally has a castle of isolation
if theres one thing i loved about the movie, is that it breaks away from the idea of prince charming and works more on the true idea of what true love is...family. if people cant understand that...i feel sorry for you :(
chipper9898 i think that's the point. Disney almost always does a movie version and a pop version of songs. think Reflection where Lea sung it as Mulan and Christina sang the pop version. Idina being the movie version, it HAS to have more emotion to tie in with what the character was feeling at that moment. the pop version has to survive outside the movie storyline.
TheGlacier05 But Christina sang the song with emotions too, just the lyrics were different, and that is with more pop versions of disney songs. There are just few ones without the deep emotions, and I think the lyrics are enough for this song to stand in it's own feet outside the movie too. It has his own storyline.
Elisa Arnarsdottir You shouldn't really roam RU-vid or Tumblr cause you're really gonna stumble on SPOILERS because they are everywhere. Why were you reading the comments anyway? o.o
My favorite is that instead of using the 'guy saves the day with true love' they actually had Elsa's true love for her sister to break the frozen heart. Personally my favorite ending to a Disney movie.
I love how she's finally a character that had immense power, and after hiding it all her life and trying to be normal, finally says to herself "You know what? I'm a BAMF. To hell with everyone else, I'm gonna do what I want. I can literally kick ANYONES ass, why should I have to take shit?" Also, she used the word fractals. That was the nail in the coffin.
OMG I love this song! Loved this movie. my Husband and I took our son to see this movie and we were so into this movie. We cannot wait until the Broadway show opens!!! I am hoping it will open next year!
Dear God...that scene in the movie...Just watching Elsa build her Ice Palace and sing her little heart out gave me chills and the feels....the whole plot around Anna and Elsa's sisterly bond is just heartwarming, heart wrenching, and tear jerking...and I have yet to see Frozen Fever. Beautiful song.
What I love about this song is it's so triumphant and exuberant, but at it's heart ultimately flawed. She literally builds a castle of ice and makes herself queen of a wasteland, totally oblivious to the damage she is causing, or that there is any option between absolute control and total abandon.
I don't really think it is ultimately flawed - yes in the sense that she's being triumphant by hiding away in a frozen wasteland, but that's her way of coping with her powers without losing control. plus the whole reason the kingdom froze was because of her freak out before she left, not her letting go and building her ice palace. The way I see it, it's her agreement with herself to start anew in a new place, and letting herself embrace who she really is. She's running away, but she's standing up for herself and that redeems the flaws for me.
Izzie Bloomfield But she isn't in control. The kingdom continues to freeze because her power is radiating unchecked. That's what the line, 'Let the storm rage on!' is about. She's letting her power out to do what it naturally does. She can direct it to an extant, but it remains something that she fears, distrusts, and believes is beyond her control. That's why despite this song the ice later turns red and spiky. Her power is controlling her rather than her controlling it.
Eric Taysom when she loses control and lets fear take over herself, she loses control over her powers like we saw in the red and spiky ice when the guards came. When she is confident and free she can use them as she wishes, such as building her ice palace and doing all that stuff at the end like the ice rink.
A friend of mine shared this song to me. :) Even tough I Heard this song Before, I never really realized how deep and meaningful the lyrics are, it's truly a beautiful song! :D
I've been thinking the same thing. I like to think of her starting to embrace her powers, instead of hiding from them, the way she has her entire life. It's a real turning point.
Comparing this with Demi's version is a lot like comparing Gary Jules' Mad World to Adam Lambert's rendition of Mad World One is a better singer in the conventional sense, but the other just puts so much more emotion into it
I have no shame to admit that I love this song! Heck, I even sing along to it. The context behind it is very emotional and relatable and Idina sings beautifully. It's really the fans who are being a gigantic pain in the a**.
I enjoyed "Frozen" a lot--it reminded me of the classic Disney movie musicals I grew up with in the '90s and it was wonderfully refreshing to see that Disney's starting to get back to its roots as storytellers. With all this said, though, am I the only one who thinks the plot could have been a bit stronger? This song brilliantly sets up Elsa finally releasing her power and learning to have fun with it, ultimately deciding not to go back home . . . and then almost immediately, she gets captured and brought back home anyway. I think it would have been much more interesting if she fought off the soldiers and became the villain of the story, sort of a Scandinavian Morgan Le Fay, if you will. And since the tale is obviously set in a Scandinavian-inspired land, how cool would it have been if she got to the top of the mountain and met some of the fair folk who were more along the lines of the original, shady characters from Norse myth? She could start off happy and positive, as this song illustrates, and then the fairies corrupt her and she becomes the baddie. Like I said, I enjoyed the film as is, I just think some parts of it could have been stronger.
I think they were about to do something like Elsa being the antagonist in the story, but they changed it heavily to let Elsa be understood more: specifically how she trapped herself in the room on purpose, and why she ran away. The ending became a lot more interesting though I must say. The original idea + script was developed in the 90s along the lines of what you were thinking of, besides the shady characters you mentioned. But I found the idea of Frozen very interesting, rarely you see a movie where you sympathize with both sides as much as Frozen. The twists in the movie were pretty unexpected for a disney movie though, I don't think anybody expected the twists in the movie, which is what made it very unique for a disney movie. (not saying any for spoilers) IMO I would've preferred something much more darker than the usual Disney movie. There are a lot of points where they could have taken advantage of the plot to make it turn dark and genius Disney movie.
I love what they did with Elsa. I like that her powers were connected to emotion; if she got too angry or excited, they popped out. It makes them much more interesting in comparison to how Disney has handled magical powers in the past, that they're tied to wands or potions. The twists in the movie were great, but I just think they could have gone even more with them. But let's face it, "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" is the darkest Disney ever dared to get.
I haven't seen the movie yet but I'm LOVING the soundtrack, its taking me back to growing up in the 90's as well. That Disney magic is back, Little Mermaid, Pocahantas, Lion King, Aladdin LOVED THEM ALL!!!
I agree with you. The soundtrack is fantastic. And even though I had a lot problems with 3D animation movies, thanks to Frozen I might change my opinion. Of course it depends on what follows^^
Agreed. What's so great about this movie is that it basically is a traditionally-animated film in 3D's clothing. And the 3D here was used to tell the story and it was beautiful. How they were able to make the ice look like actual ice was gorgeous. It didn't feel like past 3D films where it seemed like, "Yeah, we COULD make this as a traditionally-animated film, but why? 3D's all the rage now, so we'll make it 3D and throw in all kinds of unneeded effects just to show it off. Who cares about story anymore?" The music is fantastic, too. This song in particular sounds like a traditional Disney character, not a song written for a famous singer that just happened to get stuck in a Disney film. Or even better, it sounds like a song from a Broadway musical, I've heard that there are plans for a "Frozen" stage show. If that's true, I can't wait to see how they do that. Imagine ice shooting up all over the place as Elsa uses her powers. Wow. I don't know when the show would be, though. I just read in an article on Playbill.com that next year, previews will begin for the US premiere of the stage adaptation of Disney's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame". As cool as "Frozen" is (no pun intended), as a massive Victor Hugo fan/fan of the Disney version, I'd love to see "Hunchback" come out first.
Amazing scene in the film. Great fusion of story, character, song and animation. All elements come together at this point in the film and ....wow...the artists hit it out of the park. I was in tears.
So just walked in on my 3 year old with her arms wide open and spread singing the let it go part and it was the cutest thing i have ever seen. Went from laughing to tears. Good stuff!
Not in the shower, I do it when going for a a run outside in the middle of winter at night barefoot in a t-shirt, though I'm not a vocalist, so I can't tell you how well I do or not.
Smuggs You go for a run in the middle of winter at night barefoot in a t-shirt? You got guts... unfortunately my bed claims me during the night. We're quite the couple. ;) :D
So I just come to realize that let it go wasn't just a song to vibe with when I was younger, I didn't know the message not until I grew up and realize that it's a song that is trying to make us appreciate and accept ourselves, and not be afraid to show our unique abilites because this could be something worth
I don't even want to hear this other version. Still I'm a bit angry that Demi's version has more klicks. That bothers me. ugh. Such a powerful voice. Demi could never sing it like idina. She'll never know Elsa as much as Idina does, I think. neveeeeeeeerrr.
Its okay that you dont think Demi's version will be good but dont criticize it especially if you haven't heard it. The composers of the song chose Demi to sing it for the album because she also over came her own internal struggles such as Elsa did in the movie. Although I do agree that Idina has a stronger voice when singing it, try to understand why maybe Demi has more clicks than Idina's version.
There are a lot of people that frown on this song, but the reason why it is popular and there is a great amount of people who enjoy or appreciate the song isn't because it's Disney, isn't because they love princess's and it's not just because of the video. Many appreciate the song cause they can relate to it. For anyone who has ever found themselves changing for other people so they can be accepted, for those people who grew up with parents that always wanted them to be better, for those that have disabilities and find it hard to move forward sometimes; that is what the song is about. It's about being yourself. How many of us have been told "quit acting like a child and grown up." How many of us have had people look at them and either make comments about their personality because their geeky/nerdy/a jock/smart/artistic/skin color/religious/spiritual/ ect. The list goes on. But people say things to others and that does effect us and some of us change who we truly are just so we can fit in. We want to be accepted, we want to be wanted and loved. This song is for those people have gone through it. It's about realizing you need accept who you are, and be yourself. True you don't want to have a cold heart in the end and push others away, but you do want to live your life to the fullest and be true to yourself. Be a free spirit. We all have meet a free spirited person in our lives at least once. Some have been laughed at or bullied; but they move on. It's cause they "let it go". Those people laugh, they glow with life and they bring joy to those that allow them to cause positivity is catching. This is my opinion of the song in general. But if you just listen to the lyrics and forget about that its Disney, forget about who sings it and forget about the video; then you can maybe appreciate the song cause you can relate. If not; well not every song is for everyone. If we all liked/loved the same thing, then how boring would life be? Peace, Love and Happiness All. Hope you have a great rest of the weekend and your weather is good to ya =^_^=
This song is so inspirational to me... it's everything I feel about myself. I need to just let all my fears go and embrace myself and who I am. I just saw this today with my boyfriend. LOVED THE MOVIE!!!
My school would NOT STOP PLAYING THIS SONG in the hallway during the passing periods.... it was torture. But I got my Disney fix in every day so.. I guess it wasn't so bad.
