🎸 R&B Neo-Soul Course: bit.ly/42uVXz2
🎼 TAB for this lesson:
In this guitar lesson we’ll start from the definition of a I vi ii V turnaround in C major, a popular chord progression that you can find on the Real Book and in any genre. We’ll then combine various chord substitutions, from secondary dominants to tritone substitutions and diatonic substitutions to get 5 different levels of chord substitutions on guitar, from the a simple one to a chromatic cycle of dominants. This lesson is a good way to review important music theory and guitar theory concepts such as omit 5, shell voicings, chord numbers and more. As always, you will find all chord diagrams and lots of graphics on screen to follow the lesson more easily. Tabs and music notation with chord numbers and theory analysis available on my Patreon.

I found your videos about a week ago and have been binge watching all that i can. You are a really good teacher. Youre teaching what other people paywall. Thank you for the time you put into this. Its making a difference to me. Please dont ruin this channel with guitar culture nonsense, sponsor flexing, and skits.

Great lesson! I remember going through these years ago in a book called "Modern Harmonic Progression" by a guy named Allen Michalek. It was explained very well, and you just went through it in a very similar way! Subscribed! :)

i m profesional rock / progressive rock guitarist , but i study jazz , also Jens Larsen , ''learn jazz , make music '' great music theory and jazz exercises channel , he gives great jazz lessons....however....they are to complicated, your chanel is great, along side wity Jens Larsen helped me a lot, Larsem focuses more on bebpo jazz which is hard....however neo-soul , soft jaz is more approchable...i love SADE.SIMPLY RED BRYAN FERRY etc...so your chanel helped me a lot

One of the most clearly explained given on the topic of chord substitution. But the title a little misleading. Cause when I saw the word level, my mind zoom to the difficulty. This is more like 4 chord substitution made on 4 chords....and one tritone sub made on the 5th chord of the key At best I would just classified as 2 level of chord substitution cause the theory behind the tritone sub can be a little tough on the mind of guitarists.

A very useful lesson, although I still prefer the original chord progression….but any variation is good…. What about a further lesson extending the progression using passing chords….diminished etc….? 👍🍷

Playing Maj7, min7 and 7 chords was the simplistic approach to teach but when you add extensions and alterations to these, the sound builds the tension to make these substitutions art. This is where the greats ditched the basic 1 6 2 5 to create more interesting music Great breakdown 👍🏽👏🏽

Oh please, help me everyone who is native English speaker : in the first words of this video I listen "often" with a 'T', but my teachers (I'm French) always told me that in English you don't pronounce the 'T' and say something like "ofen". I've seen zillion of videos where I clearly listen to "often" with a real 'T'. Can someone explain me the two ways of pronounciation ? Is this a kind of UK vs US pronounciation ? Thanks ! Now, I can listen to the music lesson :)
