Supporting others in this game called life is what I do. I appreciate your vulnerability and willingness to receive the love! Onwards and upwards. You will look back on this season with so much gratitude in your heart. Things happen for a reason and sometimes our hands are forced, otherwise we stay complacent and don't growing. Blessings brother.
Getting fired from my last job was the best thing that could happen. Spent 2 months unemployed and found an employment path that led me to a point now where I make 70K a year and am starting my side hustle so that I don't plateau. At the time I was lost and had no motivation but my wife gave me the push I needed. Anyways, a man like Terry will land on his feet and maybe this is the push he needed
Having a switch that just switches between photo and video seems super handy! Just got my A7III a few months ago, so it will be a while before I upgrade. Good to know about this stuff, though!
Nice work Terry ;) I have the A7C already and was leaning towards the A7iv for the better hybrid solution, but due to the overheating at 4k/60 and no 4k 120p, I was thinking for my purposes I might be better off going for the FX3 instead for a more long term investment... Great points you raised and all the best, Jay
You can override the overheating monitor in the a74 , I believe it virtually gets rid of the heating issue but not sure as I’m a stills shooter, I have seen quite a few A74 reviewers who are more video oriented workshop the issue. Here’s one ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7YJpykJ9OJo.html
Real talk! I never even thought about the price difference, and didn’t realize the Siii doesn’t have focus breathing compensation. Definitely getting a iv next.
Great video Terry. I just picked up the A7IV and so far have been loving it as an upgrade for my content and live demos. Would love to see a video on how you setup the A7IV for video/pic optimization. My first camera of this style and im still learning how. to use the camera for slowmo, timelapse etc.
This how I feel about my Fx3. My primary photo camera is a fujifilm x100v and a6600. But when I put the 6600 in the studio as a B cam, it's hard to pull the 8 bit colors around
🔥 video. I just got the a7iv. Really glad I did. Also, thanks for sharing in your last video. Sucks about your 9-5 but you are on to bigger and better!
Dude I came from a Nikon z6 to the a74. A74 is game changing in a lot of ways for me. Keep doing what you do and remember, everything happens for a reason.
I've had both. They're pretty similar. The SIII has less rolling shutter, the ability to go to very high ISOs without losing dynamic range, higher framerates in both 1080p and 4k, all without a crop. The IV has more up-to-date software features, more megapixels, better native ISOs for many/most users, and sharper 4K shooting modes thanks to its downsampling.
@@SuperiorityQomplex yes, turned off stabilization, bluetooth, switched to 'high' and video quality is 4k 30 fps 100 mb maximum, and lcd screen is opened. Now it works normally, but I feel like I bought Porsche, but traffic lights are red every 100 meters 🤣🤣🤣
This was a great video! I want to upgrade from my a6600 to the a7IV or the fx3 but leaning towards the a7IV now. It will give me the most versatility to make as much client $ until I can justify owning 2 cameras thanks
Agreed with everything you said. If wide angle 4K60 is important to you, you can always get a Sigma 16mm f/1.4 or something like that. I really also love the video/photo switch so you can have your punchy and fast shutter stills settings and not have it disturbed by washed out video settings with slow shutter speeds, and you can have custom video and custom photo modes, too. My R5 has the same functionality, but the A7 IV mode dial is more tactile and faster, so I prefer it. The only thing I'd add is that I really like having the locking programmable dial on the top. I really like being able to lock a certain shutter speed or certain aperture, whereas I never used it when it was exposure compensation.
Just found your channel somehow, but better late then never! The vibes THE VIBES! Love how you don’t take yourself to serious especially the comment snobs on their high horses. Haha love it man, just subbed!
Great video Terry! I use the A7C at the moment but would love to get one of these to go with it. As much as id love the A7siii i think I'd go for the A7iv
My boi, this content is realistic, informative, and best of all, you're a great narrator! 👍 glad to see you stand out compared to the waves of film youtubers who are just copy/paste! Bravo friend 👏
Terry comin' out the gate today. lol As someone who shoots with an a7Siii most of the time, I kick it back to my a6300 for stills, just for a little extra wiggle room on cropping (despite it being APS-C)-so I get it. I may pick up the a7iv to be my main stills camera and still use it as a capable second angle for video.
Yo, keep up the good work. Great video, you finally convinced me to get the a7IV. I already have the a7s3 so I wasn’t gonna do it, but I’m happy with my purchase.
Bro you are one funny dude. Thanks for answering every single question that I have between these two and for making it entertaining. I know exactly what you mean about the comments in your hundred percent spot on with what you said. Your insight is invaluable and I thank you for that I will take a a7iv tomorrow
Get 'em Terry! More and more every day I am better understanding the fact that works best for some, may not work as well for others. Everybody needs to just relax and let others enjoy things in their own way. Keep it up!
The A7IV's highlighted focus features would be game-changing for me if I'm just using the flippy screen and it's too far away for me to see what's in focus normally.
Yessir, thank you for the info! Got the A7iv and loving it. I also think it might be the right camera because you can find it. It's a little tough to find a A7siii these days.
I am already making a switch from a7siii to a7iv. Because a7iv is great with apsc lenses that I already have, also for the newest autofocus features and last but not the least that new photo, video and s&q dial.
For the average consumer, the A7iii is a better camera than the A7IV. When someone is serious about their hybrid work photos and video, they should go to the A1. For video, go with the A7siii or fx3.
Question: what's so special about Dat Mode Switch? On my a7S III, I have Memory recall for video saved on #1 and photo on #2. I just switch between those 2.
Having the mode switch means that you have two sets of memory recall, one dedicated to photo, one dedicated to video, it's pretty handy. A pretty common video memory setup is #1 24 or 30fps, #2 60fps, #3 120fps, so having a set for stills is great and super easy to switch to at any time.
I bought the a7siii for 2,100 , I was debating on the a7iv that cost 1,900 . It was a deal that I couldn’t pass up now I’m thinking about sending my fx30 back
Lol appreciate what you have; I have a Sony A7sii I’m just casually watching these videos to see what I’m missing out on. I’m still getting some good footage out of the A7sii not sure if I’ll upgrade yet. Besides with the chip shortage, it’ll be a while before I could get my hands on one of these cameras lol.
you're right. After i got the a74 i've been bringing it way more than my a7s3. I feel as if my a7s3 is now my specialized camera now and only need to bring it out when im doing mainly video work. But i do think my 3rd camera will be a a7s3 .
I recently got the A7IV and it’s a huge upgrade for me. The only real camera I’ve ever owned before is the Canon M50. However, I’ve been reluctant to use the crop mode because I thought it might reduce the video quality. Do you really think the quality is still good in crop mode, despite losing pixels or whatever? Obviously I am just a beginner and hobbyist…
You aren’t losing pixels at all. The sensor is almost 8k it just samples the 4k out of it when in full frame. There really isn’t a loss in quality tho. You will be fine.
@@Ishmael77 Aha! Thank you. I have a 24 mm lens, and I have been thinking about getting a 35, but I guess I can just use crop mode and get a 35 field of view without buying the new lens.
I can’t stand to lose the breathing compensation, soft skin effect, direct live streaming with 1080 60p, new modes switching dial, flippy screen that won’t get loosen over time, APSC mode , variable shutter, and animal eye autofocus in video under A7IV, if I switch over to Sony A7SIII.
I have the a7c....I do mainly family portraits and single portrait work; a few weddings on the side and XV's. Should I make the jump to the a7IV? Edit: I don't do any video work, so I would not use it for video.
As an owner of the Sony ZV-E10 and the Sony ZV-E1, I would upgrade to the Sony A7IV as a hybrid for Photography and Videography. 33MP is good enough for both and I know that some cases the Sony A7SIII would be better, but does it have Gyro Data. Not sure but I know the Sony A7IV has it and it really does give you gimble-like footage after being processed with either Catalyst Browse (free software) or with Catalyst Prepare (subscription) as I have used it with the Sony ZV-E10. I know it's an extra step to process that many don't want to use but that buttery smoothness is a game changer for me, and it's only a 10% crop. Plus the time to process the clips can be used to make your thumbnail or think of a title for your video. I just like the quality plus I don't have to worry about a 40% crop trying to use Active Stabilization. What do you think?
@@theoccidentalyogi8276 I really like the ZV-E10. It's small enough to hold with Sigma Lens! My hands shake as well but I process the video using Sony's Catalyst Browse or Prepare. Puts a 10% crop and the footage is compared to gimble-like smoothness. Hardly any shake! Hope this helps.
The 24-105 f4 is the Sony video shooters dream lens, yeah it's not as fast as a 2.8 but it is ALMOST parfocal, it is FAR lighter, immensely cheaper, and more durable then sony's cinema zooms. That thing a dream to shoot with on the a7SIII and the a7IV.

Do you think I would notice a big quality bump from Sony A6600 to a7IV? I’m looking to have better video in a poorly lit room. Plus I’m thinking IBIS might be better with A7IV.
Hey TST, good job! Question about the a7IV: I know you can have different settings between photo and video, but can you also have different settings between video and S&Q? It seems like the video settings carry over when you switch into S&Q and vice versa. You said you don't use S&Q much, but maybe you know the answer anyway?
Real talk man you might have to look at reviewing more than Sony! I know you have to do what you can but diversity is the truth! I shoot Film Leica SL2S, M10R and Canon R5. To be great in my opinion, you have to teach and preach! Stay Blessed!
