@@Jburneyjr According to my extensive research in malls and movie theaters circa 1999-2003, 90% of players are Cable mains. Except that one jerk who knows that a Magneto/Sentinel is broken and should stop being such a try hard when I’m trying to impress my date…
I grew up with MvC2 but i still appreciate a video like this as a refesher especially because it's organized and clearly explained. As always, good stuff and thanks!
Just to add to the DHC notes, it’s also a good way to tag out safer. Raw tags are very unsafe, so using a DHC is a lot safer to get another character in play.
I never knew I played a character that could trijump. Playing again I learned Tron can trijump and do some fancy combo stuff. Easy enough idea but I will def need to practice it then remember to do it in a match. The controller doesn't seem crazy since you can macro a dash button but I don't believe that was a thing in the older versions
The boomer "back in my day" mentality is going to persist until the end of time. I swear in the next 2 years people are going to compare sf6 to sf5 and call sf6 a watered down version of sf5 without actually ever playing sf5.
@@elvistwatty A lot of people at least at the arcade I was at. However, that was only as first. They were more excited to see what characters were going to be unlocked.
I want to point out that there is another way to wavedash. You dont have to go to neutral, you just have to not be pressing a down input. So instead of [loop(2PP,5)] I do 6PP, [loop(3PP, 6)]. I like this way better because i can always just start holding the direction i want to be going cuz i can just reverse this for back wave dash: 4PP, [loop(1PP, 4)]
What a great video! Please can you do more videos on mvc2 covering mechanics and even gameplay. I’m getting into this game and i also truly believe that it will be rereleased on current gen consoles. It’s only a matter of time.
I thought I knew alot bout this game tho I just learned so much. I've been playing this for 15 years so now that it's getting some love, time to go back
1. Switch character kick to cancel off hypercombo or escape from infinity physical attacks from the opponent. 2. Summoning assist or using one long range attack to block or cancel off opponent hypercombo. Then you hypercombo them while one of your characters acting as the scapegoat. 3. Using compatible characters assist to execute infinity physical attacks. 4. All the characters are to be group in ground, anti air, air, dash and etc types for character assist types and their own specialized. 5. After your opponent has finish using his/her hypercombo, you can use your hypercombo as they might be vulnerable if they don't block after that. 6. If you are able to jump behind of your opponent while they missed their hypercombo onto you, you can use your hypercombo to counter them. 7. If your opponent left with only 2 characters, when the moment he/she summoning out his/her assist, you should use team hypercombo to try to kill off his/her assist character.
Yeah the LP+HP (LK+HK) Super/LP+HP Dash system in this game makes me want to get a stick. I'm using a Sega Saturn controller right now for the 6 face buttons and I gotta do some frenzied finger yoga to combo into super in this game reliably. The hidden mediums was the most baffling thing I encountered when I was starting out
When I saw how Wavedashing was done is this video it was kind of a shock to me! For many months I was Wavedashing like this: Forward: →LP+HP↘ (repeat) →LP+HP↘→LP+HP↘→LP+HP↘ etc... Backward: ←LP+HP↙ (repeat) It's mainly because I'm using keyboard, and this method is very fast imo. I'm trying to use controller and wavedashing seems very hard regardless of what command inputs I use, because hitting LP+HP is simultaneously is hard and to do consistently. (I'm on normal Dualshock 4 fyi)
Please cover proximity guard. Its a mechanic I hate and love but mostly hate because it interferes with movement and can be used to do some really junk shit. Like using proximity guard to cancel normals faster or how it messes with things like 2 button input wave dashing so manually inputting forward forward is more consistent when there is a billion hit boxes on the screen. And I know this is more frame data reliant but why does Cable have more block stun against him? Tick throwing him has a significant different timing then other characters.
When I had the ps2 version I never knew how to do rush down with storm and magneto like how the pros do at the tournament oh I see ..I thought you can only dash in the air
Bro can u tell me how to use skill like that ? what button should i press. I've tried pressing all the buttons on the stick but I still don't understand how to use the skill 😂😂
Thanks for this... The last fighting game I've played and continue to play is Marvel Superheroes on PS2. I don't have any combos or strategies, i just play attacking anyway i can. I've been confused watching all these insane combos and thinking "damn... These guys are pressing allot of damn buttons" 😅 I'm old school, don't laugh y'all. So the heavy punch\kick buttons call assist in only now?
Thank you for this video. I started learning this game a few weeks ago, with the OGs at my local arcade. I was surprised at how scarce information is on this game. The scene should be ashamed of themselves, honestly. Straight forward info seems to be relegated to word of mouth, like we're in the Stone Age. 😅
This game just looks super hard for someone new. It looks so complicated. Its like KOF 13 I loved the game but played it for an hour and couldnt beat the tutorial. lol
Can someone explain to me why wolverine is cheeks... played when I was younger but I didn't pick based on tiers just picked who I was comfortable with in the previous games. Apparently 2 out of 3 of my team was cheeks. Wolverine Ken and Cable
hahaha yeah, before i first found out what thc was (awhile ago before this video). I was like HUH, i knew what dhc was from dbfz but didn't know what a thc was and was VERY confused I thought hmm everyone in the marvel community is potheads? Awesome where do I sign up.
@@tommyp4311 I know the annotation; and I still get fucked up, because the turbo virgins on SRK decided what them and their friends called moves was 'good enough' for a Marvel Super Heroes guide
You should make a video of MvC2 vertical assists and why they're meta. Specifically, commando vs cyclops, and why psylocke is useful for magneto. I think a lot of people see these assists everywhere but aren't really sure about the differences between one and another.
Community calls them anti air assists and they’re good because they’re hella invincible and assists are very spammable in mvc2. The strengths of each are: -psylockes sets up combos and incoming guard breaks - Cyclops is a much better overall character than psylocke or capt commando so if the rest of your team dies he’s more likely to get a come back, while still providing an invincible assist. -captain commandos assist is actually broken and the best assist in the game by a lot. It’s huge, very active, and absurdly invincible. Downside is captain commando as a character is one of the worst characters in the game.
@@Nether2342 captain comando AAA Assist is no way invincible. The first 4 sprite of his startup which take 9 frames maybe invincible but the rest ofhis startup have hitboxes that can be hit which is like 4 sprites 20 frames before corridor cones out. That's why doom or tbon couter him or even fast characters like magneto can stop him before CaptCom hits the ground.
I be here cause the AI is so cheap 😭💀 Like I'm enjoying the game, but I never seen AI play like online players like this before. Almost wanted to delete the game after Bison ran away from me for 45 seconds to win the round 😭

The fact that there's only 1 defensive option turned me off. The game boils down to "who hits 1st, wait for the combo to drop", but that's a big issue when infinites are easy. I genuinely believe the game is burned with nostalgia, because it's not fun. Which sucks because it looks n plays awesome, but u don't get to play. Lol
I know a lot of people complained back in the day about the game only having 4 attack buttons, that it made it too simplified. But imo, there’s just something so satisfying about pressing the same button twice in a chain combo, especially at the speed you can chain one normal into the next in MvC2. There really hasn’t been another game before or since with a similar feeling from just pressing buttons. You have some pseudo Target Combos in MvC3 that kinda does the trick, but it’s just not the same.
funny how mvc2 got shit for allegedly being too simplified because they have 2 less buttons, and then when mvc3 came out people complained that that game lacks the complexity mvc2 had some things never change
You might like Under Night: In-Birth. Those kinds of combos are usually called "rekkas", and UNI has a million of them. Very different game, but rekkas are just as satisfying.
@@kekker_ I actually don’t jive with UNI at all. I generally don’t like games where each individual hit is low damage, and thus requires really long combos to do any significant damage at all. It’s why I like Marvel: big damage up front, even from stray hits, then squeeze out extra damage if you can and want to put in the effort (I don’t). Also I just don’t like the general feel of combos in UNI; there’s just something very unsatisfying with how juggles work, dunno what it is. Not hating on the game though, it’s well put together, and I get wanting more people to try it. And while I know UNI has Rekka characters, I’m unsure what that had to do with my original comment; maybe I wasn’t clear what I was referring to. I was talking about Normal strings that cancel into each other via double button presses, like Medium to Heavy in MvC2 being on the same button, or Dr Dooms M-M arial string in MvC3. And unless we’ve learned very different definitions (which is certainly possible), those aren’t Rekkas.
Some characters have supers that cause a "DHC glitch" where the opponent will be forced into the dizzy spin out regardless of current combo or damage taken. Then the next character's super comes in and does massive damage due to the damage scale resetting.
Thanks so much for this JM. Like many others right now, been inspired by the freemvc2 campaign to give this game a shot. Very surprised to have found such a lack of learning resources online. So this video is hugely appreciated. Would love to see more mvc2 content like this!
I know this video is old so maybe it'd be nice to remake it when the collection comes out but I think mechanics like Snapbacks, Alpha Counters, Push Block, Guard Breaks, Flying, and combo limits are a lot more important to know for players looking to improve their gameplay. Maybe a video going over beginner, intermediate, and advance mechanics?
I need to find a discord to play people. I feel the easiest way is to get someone to get parsec and play through there. Only the truly dedicated will get nulldc bear or flycast.
Took me way too long, but I finally subbed. Your relaxed, laid back style with very direct and informative delivery is dope, and I've used many of your tutorials over the past few months. Thanks so much for the great content.
I knew about ABC, launcher from mvc3, but I never knew about the LLMMHH series in mvc2! You've increased my enjoyment of this game by 300% and I can't wait to go back and try it. Universal LMH Launcher, jump, air combo was a godsend for mvc3. THANK YOU.
Hey JM! I've been looking for a video explaining the most popular teams. like the composition and what their game plan is, or the individuals tasks and I haven't been able to find one! Do have any plans for something like this? I can't believe after years of mvc2 that's just something that can't be found out there
This information is online, its just kind of obscure nowadays. I believe it was called the alpha-ism podcast that skisonic put out 10-12 years ago. He did an episode with Viscant years ago where they broke down most of the different top tier teams. Let me see if I can find that on RU-vid and link it
The Marvel vs Capcom series was great back when most of the Marvel vs Capcom games were in good old-fashioned 2D instead of 3D. I would stick with X-Men vs Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom 1 and Marvel vs Capcom 2 and avoid Marvel vs Capcom 3 (Original and Ultimate) and Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite (aka Marvel vs Capcom 4).
What up JM! love your videos. Big shout out to you and max and jwong for keeping the 90s/2000's fighting games alive. I think your youtube channels have made a major contribution to the fgc. Would you ever consider doing a tutorial on doing infinites in Xmen vs street fighter? I love that game but I stink at it and I wanna be able to keep up with the really sick players and hopefully get more attention paid to it. its an oldy but a goody haha
