Avalon may be just a jobber, but damn if he isn’t a good worker. He really takes care of his opponents and makes them look great, and he’s so good at selling and hiding spots. That springboard crossbody Sonny hit on him is a great example of this, instead of standing like a dope waiting to be hit he staggers back into position with perfect timing and it looked so natural.
I know people find it strange but Jobbers are often the BEST wrestlers! That's why they get used the way they do, they can make people look REALLY, REALLY good!
In so many ways I see echoes of Ric Flair, not just in the look, but in the selling and how he can turn getting his ass kicked and making his opponent look like a million bucks into an artform
That's why they're usually called enhancement talent. They just got a very good way of showing the nuances of the "theater of wrestling". Very safe, can sell very well, has enough of a charm to be the "underdog" in any given match, and usually a respected member in the locker room due to experience and outside reputation.
I love that John Silver is getting the spotlight. He has always been the heart and soul of Dark Order for me ever since Mr Brodie Lee passed away. I hope it goes somewhere and he isn't only hyped for the CM Punk match.
Abadon always seems to work best with joshi's like Emi Sakura and Hikaru Shida. They really lean into Abadon being a rotting corpse zombie as the opponent. Always makes for a great match.
Im ngl, i wish Emi would go back to Japan at this point, im not saying she has to win the womens title, but for gods sake T.K do something better with her.
@@colinmathie2710 What would you have Tony do with her? She's lucky she gets on the Dark shows every week. Some of the talent you rarely (or never) see on the main shows don't even get that much. There's not much you can do with Emi as I don't think she probably speaks much English.
John Silver is the heart of Dark Order, while Stu dynamic with others fit so well. He came off as a badass, was one of the better in ring workers and is a legit tough guy. Has veteran experience and a on screen relationship just waiting for stories to develop. Probably there was no spot at the moment for him, considering the competition. While if he was staying he would just come off as overexposed (like never going anywhere). Then the pay for that kind of work would be less, and combined it creates a problem. I am here hoping they find something really interesting to put to. And he gets hired with sh*t ton of content for us to watch him in. Wouldn't say him being away for time is a bad thing for his career. I hope money wise he doesn't get much trouble. Maybe NJPW would give him time, there he could marinate and showcase the pure wrestling skill he has and then come back to AEW as a bigger thing. Of course they could have given him some feuds, but as I said before, competition is just too big. Cm Punk, MJF, Bryan Danielson, Eddie Kingston, Hangman Page, Kenny Omega, Jon Moxley. The roster is one of the best I've seen in a long long time. Good thing Stu from all his AEW run has gathered so much new fans. He can be a star in any indie show now (loved the guy since first time seeing him in PWG with Uno)
They've got better talent then they did during their first couple of years, and they desperately need to get rid of a bunch of guys because the roster is way too bloated. Stu Grayson and a few of the other Dark Order guys are good options. The truth of the matter is that nothing about most of those guys stands out. I'd keep a few of them and get rid of the rest. It was an interesting faction at first, but it's quickly deteriorated to the point where now it's just kind of there. It's a collection of job guys basically.
@@JMFSpike AEW structure is about interest. Because it's on tv. But what they also do really well, is give relatability, give a tough presentation and showcase the work rate. Which all will help the career of the wrestler when he leaves to go somewhere else. After that they can always make waves and interest is there for them to be on tv. Because it's a risk creating interest from nobody, while relatability/tough presentation/work rate showcase is less if a risk knowing those guys will put over those who already hold interest (like Danielson, Punk, Omega, Moxley). I think it's a smart way to book, and eventually guys like Stu will get much attention for the exposure they been given. While there is nothing worse for your career than to have an overexposure of a stale act. Or no exposure at all (like can't even work the indies)
It was good to see Abadon in a longer match than she usually has. Sakura was the perfect opponent for her to do that. And Deppen deserved more than a squash match loss.
I don't know why TK still books ROH names as jobbers on AEW shows, with no entrance aired. He has a responsibility (and a direct incentive) to build them as stars now...
@@tomseville2345 Remember, you never know what the long terms plans are for people. He has shown that he knows how to build stars. All of the AEW champions are people that became stars in AEW.
Swerve and Keith Lee are just 2 classics personified from the entrances to in ring work. I can't wait till they are serious contenders in AEW. They will give us a real show win or lose. I hope they both go far here in this company.
Stu needed to move on. Guy can be a star in a solo act, and he and Uno were clearly not challenging for championships anytime soon. He reminds me a lot of Ceasaro, honestly. That would be a fun tag team, actually. Wouldn't be surprised to see him again in a few years in AEW as a solo act.
totally agree, there was a comment on a older one about Abadon being a kind of Yokai companion with Emi. Suppose that may distort her own creativity but it sounded real cool.
@@w0rloko It won't hurt any creativity because odd pairings has work in the past like Team Hell No.Also a Undead Zombie in a team with Ryo or Riho could work because there are tag teams with light hearted gimmick and a horror gimmick around the world.
It's one thing being vulnerable and having to fight for a win against people like Archer or Wardlow. It does Keith Lee no favors to look vulnerable (not completely unbeatable as you put it) to guys on the level of Isaiah Cassidy & JD Drake.
Alright, Abadon getting prepared to go upwards. Longer fight than usual. Love her, even though cant see her going for a belt, the act deserves a little push. Tagteam with Julia Hart maybe, make Julia completely go heel? Heel Hart, Bunny, Abadon triples i can definatly see.
It’s great to see Tony Deppen on aew. I agree with a bunch of other comments though, he deserves way more than just a squash match. Guy deserves to be signed. He has had top tier matches with a bunch of guys on the aew roster. It’s irritating that everyone Deppen wrestles ends up signed and shines like gold but then Deppen gets the shitty end of the stick every time.
Time tf out. Abadon v Emi? Were putting on a women's match where I can't just pick out who's winning based on "do they work here or not"? Let's get more of this. Put abadon against stiffer competition and watch her flourish and evolve.
The crowd reaction to Sonny was nuts!! Hopefully bigger and better things are coming in the immediate future for her! And that Abadon and Emi Sakura match ruled hard! What a crazy rivalry that could be!
I really love the commentary by such respected pro's like Mark and John, they know their stuff, and their banter is legendary! Loved the match between Abadon and Emi, was waiting for Abadon to get a bigger match.
If a crowd starts singing parts of Keith Lee’s theme song I’m going to freeze he just sends chills everywhere to me and everyone let’s hope to make it happen 🔥🔥
AEW Dark Elevation Ep 62 0:31 Eight-man tag team match Ryan Mooney, Diego, Josh Fuller & Brandon Scott vs Dark Order's Evil Uno, Alex Reynolds, Alan "5" Angels & 10 w/"The Queenslayer" Anna Jay 7:04 "Living Dead Girl" Abadon vs Emi Sakura 14:35 "The Concrete Rose" Sonny Kiss vs "Pretty" Peter Avalon w/"The Hollywood Hunk" Ryan Nemeth 22:20 Tony Deppen vs John Silver w/Alex Reynolds & "The Queenslayer" Anna Jay 29:45 "Limitless" Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland vs The Factory (Nick Comoroto & QT Marshall) w/Aaron Solo
Abadon vs Emi Sakura, definitely what I'm looking forward to watching. Dark Order in 8-man Tag action, Sonny Kiss and Johnny Hungyyyyy in singles action, and Limitless Swerve vs The Factory: Round 2, this time with QT Marshall and Nick Comoroto stepping in. Been loving this show since it's very first episode.
The woman vibrating with joy to see Sonny Kiss. the little girl all smiles beside her mother with his entrance. the boy singing his song and feeling represented. sonny means so much to so many people. I wanted to see aew investing more in it
I love Keith Lee's feats of strebgth, they make a pleasant change from all the smash mouth that goes on, and this applies to both male and female wrestlers who are doing irreparable damage to their long term health.
Keith and Swerve have such good chemistry with the power agility combo. They both can worth the crowd and we get excited to see them set up power move with high flyer team moves. Even if they never really chase gold as a team, they are exciting to watch how they might innovate their move sets to compliment each other
I heard about this type of match called a "captains falls match". Based on the description it seemed like a nice alternative to standard tag rules and would seem to be an ideal fit for trios matches and 8 to 10 man tag matches. The objective as listed in Wikipedia is to pin the captain of the other team in order to score a victory, typically by pin fall, submission, count out or disqualification. So when I heard about this, I got excited because this match seems like an ideal fit for AEW that is pursuing matches with larger teams. But I couldn't find any examples of this kind of match that was in alignment with what was in my head. Are there actual examples of this kind of match anywhere on RU-vid? I can imagine that not only could a team win one of these matches by pinning a captain or making a captain submit, but the opposing team could even pull a captain out of a ring and prevent him from returning to the ring by the end of the 10 count. Or, if members are eliminated over foreign objects, or incapacitated, it would be possible to see a double or even a triple pin fall or submission move. Has anyone ever seen a "captains falls" match like this?
CMLL has these type of matches, along with numerous Mexican promotions. You may want to peruse the CMLL RU-vid channel (VideosOficialesCMLL).....it may take some digging, since the company has mostly morphed the channel into post-match comments and match snippets -- not entire matches/shows.
AEW Dark Elevation match card : •Swerve Strickland & Keith Lee vs QT Marshall & Nick Comoroto •Ryan Mooney , Diego , Josh Fuller & Brandon Scott vs Evil Uno , Alex Reynolds , Alan Angels & 10 . •John Silver vs Tony Deppen •Sonny Kiss vs Peter Avalon •Abadon vs Emi Sakura
It's odd that she only appeared at these tapings on the stage for the D.O. men's matches on Elevation. She wasn't even on BTE in their segment this week...
I have nothing against John Silver, but Tony Deppen is one of the best wrestlers in independent wrestling and deserves more than a squash. I also can’t believe he lost to the airplane spin gimmick.
