One of my favourite bits of advice about gift-gifting: gifts fulfil their purpose when they are given. So don’t feel the need to buy something someone is going to treasure for years or something that will change their life. The act of giving makes a gift special.
Love the idea of people giving my kids the gift of treat ownership! Mostly because of the lesson I get to teach them about taxes when I eat 10% of it. ... And then 15% of each treat over the equivalent value of 100 m&ms. We're very advanced in our lessons about wealth management.

Love this! For friends who live farther away, I like to make a small donation in their honor to an organization in their area - local food banks, humane society, after-school programs, diaper banks, etc. It’s meaningful, they don’t need to know how much I donated, and there’s no shipping costs or wasteful packaging!!

To go along with the baked goods, you can include a jar of home-made cocoa, there's all kinds of nifty recipes you just pour in mason jar and print some instructions (luckily, most of them are just add hot water/hot milk).
CHEX MIX 🤤 Bakin homemade chex mix is a family tradition of ours-it would make a great gift!! We also make peppernut cookies-teeny tiny, which makes em so easy to gift, and the stores haven't seemed to catch on to the recipe yet! -Hannah 🌻

Yes!! Kids are the best to buy gifts for because they're SO EASY TO PLEASE. One year I got my nephew (7 at the time) a can of black olives for his birthday-told me it was his favorite gift. Ate the whole can that night. Didn't share with anyone. It was one of the most satisfying gifts I've ever given. -Hannah 🌻 (For the record, he lovvvvves black olives. Were cutting right back who were gifting to, were doing hampers of home made food and wine to close family, I'm hosting an "anti-Christmas party" for friends, all homemade food (and anything they don't scoff we can have as lunches and sacking off the works secret santa and the "I don't even really know / like you why am I buying you a present again?" People! My bank balance is already thanking me!
DANG. That is quite the shift! But WoOoOoW, I imagine your wallet *is* sighing a huge sigh of relief. The holidays are a magical time, but part of that "magic" is how the money mysteriously disappears with ever coming holiday party and gift you put under the tree, am I right? 🤣Now that I'm budgeting specifically for the holidays all year round, I actually feel GREAT spending my money on gifts and traditions because I know I built it into my plan-a BIG shift from my feelings in the past when I didn't budget year-round for the holidays. -Hannah 🌻
It just so happened that I bought a bottle of Barefoot Bubbly pink moscato for my mom's birthday. It did not cost $5.99 😢 (wine and other alcoholic beverages carry significant sales taxes where I live, and I assume the bubbles made it cost more, too).
If you give a plant, be sure that it’s already potted or in whatever container it gets to stay in. The gift of “now you have to go buy a pot” is not a good gift.
