I am French and a little bit surprised by starting a list of medieval dynasties by Napoleon family. It's certainly a old one and still exists, but not from high and old nobility. And not truly medieval. She started to be noble in the late XVIII century and can be considered has a dynasty after french revolution. This family didn't worned the imperial eagle in its coat of arms before 1804. About french dynasties, actual capetians heirs are still alive. So the heirs of St Louis and Clovis.
Napoleon at least the “conquerer ”seems made up, Bonaparte lineage that’s another story. Someone said : “Historical events are a bunch of lies agreed upon” Also : “History is written by the victors” Then he almost froze to death with most his army and ate their horses (allegedly). Fitting! His penis was allegedly sold as the most expensive Di#k ever; per Guinness world records 1999. True story. So who knows really.
LPKensai7 I caught that as well. I also found it amusing that when he was discussing the founding member of the dynasty (Umberto I of Savoy ) a picture of King Umberto I of Italy, (a rather very distant descendant) was displayed in his place.
Vittorio Amadeo was briefly King of Sicily after The War of The Spanish Succession but he was unable to rule effectively so after getting The Austrians to help him put down Sicilian revolts a few times The Austrians took Sicily and gave him Sardinia
Dukes of Genoa Princes and such. To this day. Savoy-Genoa. I don’t understand the part where they can’t live in Italy. They do. Silvio Berlusconi, wouldn’t have been prime minister. Mussolini wouldn’t have been…period, we wouldn’t know his name.
House of Bagrationi is Europe's oldest surviving christian dynasty and one of the longest reigning dynasties as well, video about them would be nice :v
@@pdmacguire Georgia is often considered very European culturally. One of the only nations outside of geographic Europe that had feudalism. Russia and Eastern Slavs had Serfdom mixed Feudalism, Theme system in Eastern Roman Empire, Itqa in most of Africa and Middle East, Chaste system in India, etc.
They forgot to mention also well known was Catherine of Braganza who was Charles II of England's long-suffering wife. She made the best of her life in England considering she had one of the most philandering husband's of the era! She was the daughter of John IV of Portugal, who was the 1st king of Portugal from the House of Braganza after they overthrew the Spanish Habsburgs. She outlived her husband by 20 yrs, he dying @ only 54 yrs old. She never had children (2 miscarriages) and had to live in her own home w/her husband's mistresses as her ladies in waiting. I can't imagine having to deal with that nonsense, but those were the times.
Actually the head of the house of Wettin, is not in close line of succession of Britain. Not even Elizabeth II’s HUSBAND is on the list of the first 100 people in line for the throne
House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha is a cadet ruling branch of House of Wettin and so is the House of Windsor (George V, Queen Elizabeth II's grandfather) changed their German dynastic name to a more English one after WWI. So through the House of Windsor is where those in line for the English throne would come from, hence Charles, William and his children, then Harry and his children and so on. So you are correct Phillip would've never ruled as an outright King in England.
@@janicerodriguez2139 He changed the name during WW I. He feared abolition of the monarchy. This was also his excuse for failing to rescue his cousins and their family in Russia.
A short addition to the house of Wettin: In 1485 the two brothers Ernst and Albrecht splitted the house. The decendants of Ernst founded some new branches (after some merges at least Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha, Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach, Sachsen-Meiningen and Sachsen-Altenburg). There are still leaders of these houses, you only namend the leader of Sachsen-Weimar-Eisenach, the current leader of Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha is Prinz Andreas von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha and the current leader of Sachsen-Meiningen is Prinz Friedrich-Konrad von Sachsen-Meiningen. The house of Sachsen-Altenburg extincted 1991. The decendants of Albrecht became Kings of Saxony and after WWI they named Prinz von Sachsen Herzog zu Sachsen. The last leader of the house was Maria Emanuel Prinz von Sachsen Herzog zu Sachsen, he died 2012 and due to the adoption of his nephew the succession of the leadership is controversid.
At present, after a constitutional decree, the male members of the Savoy dynasty can reside in Italy. Emanuele Filiberto, prince of Venice and sole heir to the prince of Naples, got married in Rome. For what I know, the duke of Aosta never left Italy to go in exile.
The last one is my own dynasty. There is a 3rd group competing for the throne. Yeah, I have Bonaparte listed as my 5th cousin. I am sure the others are but the Portuguese one is connected twice through my father's and mother's Greek group.
Hey im related to house representatives who are descended from noble family whos historic estate has a yearly festival so their probably telling the truth
You forgot another famous Braganza -- Catherine of Braganza, "the Bat," wife of K. Chas. II of England, who exclaimed on first seeing his arranged bride, "THEY'VE SENT ME A BAT!!" because of her unusual hair style.
You forget the House of Oldenburg (former kings of Denmark), its branch Oldenburg-Schlesvig-Holstein-Gottorp (emperors of Russia that kept also the name Romanov) its branch Old.Sch.Hol.Sondenburg-Gluksburg (now kings of Denmark, Norway, Greece and - after Elisabet II - of G. Britain). The House of Capet-Bourbon-Spain (former kings of France, Naples-Sicily) and Capet-Bourbon-Parma (grand duke of Luxemburg). The House of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen of Romania, branch of Hohenzollern of Prussia and Germany. The House of [Hapsburg-]Lorraine of Austria. 1.Note that except of the offsprings of Napoleon I's nephiew, there are direct (illegitimate) offsprings of Napoleon I: see Alexandre Colonna-Walewski in en.wikipedia. 2.Note that the Portugese Royal House is of Capet-dukes of Burgundy-Portugal-Avis-Braganca. Each branch is a cadet of the previous. Also, don Duarte Pio is the male offspring of Michael I of Portugal. The two others you mention, belong to the House of Capet-Bourbon-Orleans (not to the Braganca). Pedro Carlos is of the main branch, but his grandfather abdicated from the succession line due to morganatic marriage; Luiz belongs to cadet branch, but his father and grandfather had dynastic marriages. Although they are offsprings of Braganca throught female line, they kept the surname for dynastic reasons. Please add them yo your wonderful video; we are waiting more videos, yes please go on!
In the case of the Brazillian Imperial House, the legitimate head is S.A.I.R Dom Luiz de Orleans e Bragança. The eldest son of Princess Isabel of Brazil renounced his and all his descendants rigths to the throne so he coul marry a low noble woman (according to the Brazillian rules the heir must marry a rulling dinasty). All other claims are not recognized as true heirs to the imperial throne. Ave Império!
What about the House of Stuart? The claimant to that House is very well known and considered by Jacobites to be the true Monarch of Great Britain. Forgive me if I am misusing words when describing this royal house....although I am very interested in European Royal Families, I find it hard to keep up with proper nomenclature. Too much for my aging brain ;)
DlchMcV the true monarch of europe are those chosen by the ppl and government, the German house of Hanover was chosen and they are the rulers End of the discussion
He sort of did in this video. Since Salic Law does not apply, decent can pass through the female line. The Jacobite Stuart claim passes through Charles I's daughter Henrietta Anne and granddaughter Anne Marie of Orléans to the House of Savoy in the person of Charles Emmanuel IV of Sardinia. His granddaughter Princess Maria Beatrice of Savoy married into the house of Austria-Este and her granddaughter Archduchess Maria Theresa of Austria-Este married King Ludwig III of Bavaria who as the video notes was a Wittelsbach and the great grandfather of Franz, Duke of Bavaria the current head borh the House of Wittelsbach and the Jacobite House of Stuart.
Oh! You mean Bonny Prince Charlie and his father James Frances Edward aka The Old Pretender. Well after James II and VII of England was exiled his daughter Mary and her husband William III Prince of Orange (son of Mary, sister of Charles II & James II) became rulers. So it went from the Stuarts to the House of Orange-Nassau. Since those two had no children things got iffy because while it went back to the House of Stuart with Queen Anne (James II daughter) ruling she was from his 1st marriage NOT from his last which was to Mary of Modena. Here's where the Old Pretender comes in. He should've been the one to rule considering he was #1 a son to James II and #2 from his last marriage while James was king. They bumped him & said nope we want his eldest Protestant 2nd born to rule after her sister. James Frances Edward was Catholic so there's one of the reasons. His son Charles Edward did try pretty hard to fight for their right to rule with the Jacobite Rebellion with the help of the Scots, but they had a huge loss in Culloden so that was that.
Interesting. I am a descendant of the Doria and Lebolo families from Genoa from a mixed marriage of some of those nobles. We still own a lot of real estate there & even in Colombia.
Correction: The presenter got it correct. The Savoy dynasty had control of Sicily but only briefly. Look online: Savoy dynasty look under countries. You will see the emblem for Sicily.
Geez to be able to figure the whole situation out you need to take apart every royal house and dynasty in europe and start there and then take apart every dynasty bit by bit, every royal house in the world is more or less family, they only married within the aristocracy and nothing else was allowed. All to gain power and protect their own and/or for land. i think that most royal families are related one was or the other.
Thank you for your excellent pronunciations - too many of these videos don't even pronounce these family names properly. Good job. I do wish you had a better piece of artwork however. :D
The house of romanov once died and simply re-created. And before that it was Germanized and basically ruled/dominated by German houses who've kept the name of Romanov for the house.

House of Welf; House of Leiningen? Btw . The members of House of Wittelsbach are all Members of the Palatinate branch...not the Bavarian branch. The Bavarian Branch ended hundreds of years ago.
Actually the House of Windsor aka Saxe-Coburg-Gotha is/are the House of Wettin. They still hold the thrones of Great Britain and Belgium. Why are there two claimants to the Italian throne? Prince Vittorio Emanuele is Umberto II’s son, but is it because he married a commoner and his cousin the Duke of Aosta did not?
Yes, It seems that Umberto II Never accepted the marriage of his son to a "commoner" (even if he loved him as a son), so when he died the royal sigils and symbols of house Savoy were buried with him and not passed to his successor. So now the title is disputed with the Savoy-Aosta branch.
I descend from a captured Hessian at Trenton in the American Revolution.Ok and behold, that family is related to the British Crown and Marie Antoinette. Is 23&me accurate ?
You should archmandes dynasty is still exist abd now the archmanides still at my country as sutltan of malay, srivijaya dynasty from 1st dynasty of parsian, and maybe have related alexander the great

Wettin is legitimately of Medieval rulers as is Wittelsbach. and Savoy. The Bonapartes and the Braganzas are not from Medieval rulers. Simply having ancestors is not enough.
there is plenty of capetians, come on. the duke of luxembourg, the bourbons, a lot of italian families related to angiò ( anjou ) and bourbon, and of course all of these families, even if they don't call themselves capetians, are all from hugo capet and from the robertingians- carolingians.
