I went pretty hardcore on the minimalism. Sold everything I own except for 4 suitcases of stuff (for my whole family) and moved out of the country. Felt good getting rid of so much junk, now everything that I own has a purpose.
@@Danijanet this may sound weird, but we divided mementos into two categories. High value and low value. Low value meaning things that give us a smile and bring back memories when we see them, and high value meaning an important part of our history, something we could never part with. We took the low value items and took good photos of them, sometimes video if it made sense. And the high value items we put into a couple of storage totes that we left at my parents house. I think it worked well for us, but might not for others.
"Don't sacrifice what you have for what you don't need." So good! contentment frees you up to enjoy what you already have instead of missing what is right in front of you.
The only thing I'd add, I agree to your point about a goal being short enough to not get discouraged, but I'd take that a step further and say just commit to doing it today. Then tomorrow, commit to doing it that day. The "one day at a time" mentality worked wonders for me. Solid video as always.
The fact that you believed in something enough to try it for 90 days created a habit (formed in 21 days) for you in that area. It's not really tricking yourself if you believe in what you're doing. Kudos to finding what works for you! And - someone who works a FT job and takes time to do things on the side to better themselves is NOT lazy! Keep on keeping on!!
Habits don’t form in 21 days. Formation of a habit works off of two primary factors: 1. How difficult the action/proposed habit is, and 2. How often you repeat the habit (a habit will form twice as quickly if you do it twice a day).
Concise, to the point, and actually helpful tips with change in mindset. The energy of your content shows how authentic you are, not a gimmick for views, but what you truly are living.
With your wife and kid permission “ I love you” you are awesome. I have learn a lots from your journey. Inspiring! Looking a life from a different perspectives.
I wouldn’t say I am a full minimalist, however I have always been good at understanding and accepting delayed gratification. This allowed me, on an average salary, to retire at 49. My income now in retirement is the same or better than my post tax/savings income when I was working and I’m good with that. I don’t need or want the latest handbags/shoes etc, and I live a much simpler life now… I loved hearing about essentialism from you, which I see as more of who I am. Thank you for your videos.
Saving money while raising a baby is almost a miracle. A single bachelor can do extreme things like living out of a car and using gym membership for showers etc but living relatively “normally” and pull this off without resorting to charities like going to the food bank and eating in various soup kitchens doing it with dignity is a method I like in your approach
Understanding personal finances and investing will most likely lead to greater financial independence. By being knowledgeable about money and investing, individuals can make informed decisions about how to save, spend, and invest their money. A trader made over $350k in this recession influenced market
Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. Bloomberg and other finance media have been recording cases of folks gaining over 250k just in a matter of weeks/couple months, so I think there are alot of wealth transfer in this downtime if you know where to look.
The best course of action if you lack market knowledge is to ask a consultant or investing coach for guidance or assistance. Speaking with a consultant helped me stay afloat in the market and grow my port-folio to about 65% since January, even though I know it sounds obvious or generic. I believe that is the most effective way to enter the business at the moment.
@@smithmurphy My advisor is ‘’JILL MARIE CARROLL’’ she’s highly qualified and experienced in the finan-cial market. She has extensive knowledge of port-folio diversity and is considered an expert in the field. I recommend researching her credentials further. She has many years of experience and is a valuable resource for anyone looking to navigate the financiial market.
I love your “Mondays videos.” This one was great. So many great topics that I am going to implement on ny current journey to freedom (financial and overall). The quote “Don’t sacrifice what you have for what you don’t need” is just priceless. I am grateful for your channel.
We switched from a pellet stove and are saving a lot of money, plus our home is warmer. We go out once every few weeks, rather than every Friday. We are buying clothes only when we need them and buying from BJ'S rather than local grocery stores. I suppose we save a few hundred every other month. I work from home which saves a bunch of money. I work out at home...no gym fees. I'm not antisocial...just trying to be more efficient. I cut way back on sugar. We live quite comfortably on very little money. Daily I declutter half a dozen or so items because space makes the house look bigger.
Really enjoy your videos. So happy u embrace this lifestyle. Things r just innate objects. Money is just a vehicle to freedom. Having no debt own home is a true blessing. Being a prisoner to debt because u want stuff is crazy.
Who said don't follow your passions? Bless their hearts and have compassion for their limitations and lack of faith in theirselves. FOLLOW THAT HEART!!!
I've just moved and am starting to unpack boxes, some of them have been stored for almost 2 years. I've been watching your videos to motivate me on clutter. I was able to let go of a few things & keeping them out of the landfills and passing them along to benefit the Senior Center Thrift store. Yea!🎉
Awesome video! I tried not to order take aways or going to restuarants this month. We used to do it twice a month. But it's tough because i sometimes get tired of cooking.. that pizza looked great! Wish i had a pizza oven!
Fantastic video Gabe :) I instantly subscribed! I can say without a doubt that Minimalism has improved every aspect of my life. I have more free time, my relationships have better boundaries, I have more mental clarity, so many benefits
Scenario: Friday Morning. Having breakfast. 10 minutes before my first morning meeting. Your video hit me so hard! So glad to realize that A LOT of things I can relate already (luckily). Cheers!
Nice Pizza Gabe ! Seems like we have the same passion :) Next step for me was planting my own basil and tomatoes, I think that also shapes minimalism. Good luck with it bro !
I truly love all your principals and outlooks. I struggle now as a stay at home mom who once worked multiple jobs but now stays home with a toddler and another on the way. I don't feel I have anything that excites me enough or a passion that drives me to turn it in to something more. What work can I do to find those things so that I can feel more satisfied and have passions that can make income?
I have a bunch of hobbies that help me disconnect. Snowboarding, fly fishing, biking, archery. I don't really want to monetize them because my wife and I already make a high income, but they all give my life purpose
For the past year, I haven’t worked (long story). I found I can do with about twelve items of clothing. It is soooo liberating. I have three colour standards to coordinate with; I have warm and cooler options. Twelve pieces. Saves on laundry too. I’m just… not into clothes.
Even trying to monetize your hobbies or small loves will always show someone their capabilities. So there is nothing wrong with trying. If one can find the game or challenge of selling oneself as fun then they can succeed in self making or self business. Slowly learning marketing for my sewing stuff myself, so taking it easy while learning.
Gabe, you packed quite a lot of excellent insights into this video. I found it to be really inspiring. And from a filmmaking POV, you did a nice job making it a pleasure to watch. This is another of your videos that I'll share.
I like what you said about spreading yourself too thin with too many things to do. So a person will have more success in what matters to them by becoming a specialist and stop being a generalist! Thanks for your support and suggestions to us!
Hi! I found your channel about a week ago, and am already making several changes in my life, inspired by your wisdom. Thankyou so much for your videos! This in turn will make a difference in the lives of hundreds of the poorest of the poor here in India where I live. This is my story in a nutshell: Seven years ago I was homeless, living in my car. I had lost everything in life. I got a job as a hotel housekeeper and was making barely enough to survive. I lived in coffee shops after work, since I had nowhere else to go. One day I was in a bookstore and I picked up a book about Mother Teresa and started reading. I thought, “Surely I can do something for those in India whom no one cares about!” I bought a plane ticket and flew to India for the first time, even though I was still homeless. I had only $55 in my pocket for my whole trip when I stepped into the airport. I traveled all across India, looking for where God would lead me to start. I got married to an Indian who also had no money, but shared the same goal of helping the poor. We now have a ministry serving about two hundred families of the homeless, beggars, and leper colonies of India. Could you recommend someone who could help me create a better website and youtube channel page for our ministry? God bless you! Hi, new to your channel, old video I know. I quit sugar 5 years ago and I wish I did it decades ago. I also quit meat a year later and they were the best things I ever did for my health. Loving your content, and congrats on your babies and successes.🤠
love your videos Gabe, you’ve really helped me kickstart and stick to my own frugality/minimalism journey! dropping in to say you guys literally have the CUTEST baby of all time 😂❤
Cold showers - not. Short showers, yes. Cut on food? Nope. Menu planning and prep.and cook in advance: yes. Less clothes. Expensive brands, but second hand. I have jeans ( second hand) that are looking great even after 7 years! Eat out less but healthy food. No coffee. Water take away with me.
I am so content that I have a scholarship for the next year at least and yes, I love living a minimalist life. Happy that I found you and I will pursue my RU-vid journey now as well.
It’s hard to simply have “self discipline” all by itself and to rely on willpower. It will fail. Based on several of your videos and books you have read, I’m sure you understand the concept of building “good regular habits” instead of just trying to rely on willpower. Even James Clear talks about this. You make new habits and then these become your “normal behaviors.” You develop discipline because that’s what your habit is and you don’t have to try to rely on willpower or “feeling good” to get things done. You become the type of person that does these things. Eventually you don’t have to think or get stuck making decisions to do what is good for you. You act. Your habits ARE your discipline. They become more normal with time, then you don’t need to think about it, it’s just “what I do.”
Hi, I love your videos, and they’ve helped me in my struggles being a single homeowner. I’ve made poor financial choices in the past, but I’m working my way through them. It’s hard! I have a question though, I hear what you’re saying about being satisfied with the salary you have and learning to live with what you have, not needing to make more and more money. However, in today’s economy, everything keeps getting more and more expensive as my salary stays the same, so as a result I keep getting poorer and poorer. What is your advice about that if what you’re saying is that we don’t have to keep trying to earn more to get by and be happy?
Definitely not saying you shouldn’t pursue earning more and learning new skills. I’m just saying there’s a point where the returns become less. I’m all about earning as much as possible in a short a time as possible which really revolves around learning skills that make more money.
@@GabeBult thank you. I’m trying to find ways of earning more without working 24/7 so I can retire in 3 years! Thanks for your reply and your fun videos!!
The sugar!!! I didn’t cut sugar out but reduced the added sugars for a while and I can’t even eat anything with a lot of added sugar anymore because it makes my stomach hurt now. Crazy. I grew up on oreos. Now they make me cringe so much lol now I definitely dont drool over carrots but cutting sugar has been amazing. Also increase your water intake, drink at least 5-6 water bottles in a day. I did this after realizing I drank 1 bottle the previous day and it felt like I had an IV in. I didnt feel tired and I felt like a different person, no exaggeration.
Time is money. You have to make a calculation that if you are saving $50 finding second hand stuff and wasting 5 hr for search, bringing it home, etc, then you made $10 an hour doing that transaction. Think if that transaction make sense to you. If it does, go by all means.
