Sorry this one took a while longer to create, I just finished doing a bunch of prep work for college which affected my time to work on videos. Though, as the saying goes, better late than never! Next up will be the Douglas A-20 Havoc
In the Solomon's the 37mm cannon from crashed or unusable P-39's were prized finds by US Navy PT boat crews who mounted them on the bows. These proved very effective against heavily armed Japanese transport barges.
Nothin like a 37mm Slug to ruin someone's day. . .or boat. Given that the 37 was surprisingly accurate despite being slow firing, I'm surprised they didn't make a dedicated version of the 37 for PT boats.
Kennedy had a 37mm on the bow of the 109 when it was sunk - but - (iirc) this was an anti-tank gun. Kennedy's second boat, _PT-59_ , had the torpedo tubes removed and had them replaced by machine guns and 40mm cannon as a Barge Hunter. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrol_torpedo_boat_PT-59 .
11:33 - I agree. It's looks weird. Thank you for this video. Stick with it - keep up the quality and I am quite sure your sub numbers will rise strongly. ☮
To my knowledge no, though my knowledge on Air Racing aircraft is very surface level, and as there were plans to adopt a Merlin to a P-63 during its development I wouldn't be surprised if one engineer was successful in adapting it later on in life.
