5 Minute Gunlance Guide | Monster Hunter Rise | No Nonsense Weapon Guide Series

I prefer either Wide or Long Gunlances because Long is balanced while Wide is all about the shelling and the stunning Wyrmstake. Side note: If you have Charged Shelling over Blast Dash, you can charge your shell and after doing so, you can press the analog stick (left side) down and press A (at the same time) to pull out the Wyrmstake faster than doing the Triple A shelling. Useful for abusing the Wyrmstake (especially Wide since it can stun monsters in the head). Edit: You don’t need to fully charge your shells to pull out the Wyrmstake. In fact, you can even pull out the Wyrmstake at no charged levels (albeit a bit tricky since timing needs to be a bit precise). Just do one charge and then pull out the Wyrmstake.

Together With chargeblade, I will now be a Gunlance main too

This is seems like the closest to the combo I want of Insect Glaive and shooting weapons, so no because of of this video it actually seems fun.

hail cutter is also a good one. it lets you unload endless amount of wyvernfire in the face of magnamalo.

MHR is my first Monster Hunter game, I'm at MR70 now and up until this moment only played IG and a bit of HH, so I wanted to give the other weapons a try, I really liked the lance, but I gotta say... GL is a mess, not because of the damage, don't believe the metaslaves, this weapon has really good damage, comparable to all other weapons. You will not get attacks with Big Number™, but DPS is just as good. However, the inputs and combos are really badly designed, playing it is a confusing mess, not because they are hard or difficult to memorize, but because there is literally no clear pattern, like some moves have several ways to be activated depending on the way you started the combo, it is not consistent in movements and inputs like the other weapons and that really takes the fun out of it for me

The reason I love using Lance/Glance is because I feel monsters feel disrespected after they do fancy schmancy super mega ultra moves to try and one shot you and after the smoke clears, you're still standing, in the same spot, unmovable, its a giant middle finger to their efforts and much funnier

The Shell differences are: Normal for Full Bursting (shelling after an overhead slam to release your entire clip). Wide for stronger shells, charged shots and stunning wyrmstakes. Long for range and all-rounder play style

one important thing you didn't mention is the quick reload after and attack or shelling, you can press ZR + A to load all your shell at once very quickly, but this won't reload your wyrmstake now combine that with normal shells and you can chain slam attacks into full bursts like a madman

Thanks for this quick guide, made it a whole lot intimidating than the 20 - 50 minute guides out there lol. Picking this up to start with the PC release, previously played SnS and Hammer on the Switch version.

The rocket move is the only reason i play gunlance.

A note for shelling, if you are using Normal Shelling with 6 shots, there's a fantastic infinite loop you can do if able, or just a strong 4 part combo for good damage before dodging. X (single sweep), X+ZR (quick reload, only reloads shells not Wyrmstake), X (downward slam), A (Full Burst unloading all shells at once). Combo ad infinitum and since shelling damage is true, your quickly depleting sharpness isn't much of a factor.

Thats cool it can fly but theres no theres no bug friend (kinsect) so im not using it

I've never played any of the (gun)lances because I was intimidated with other weapons that just don't go "Bonk!" Or "Cut" lol but it definitely looks interesting! I might have to give it a shot!🥰

What's so confusing is for people who play on PC with an xbox controller, every guide out there has the buttons wrong. for some inexplicable reason nintendo decided to put the A where the B goes and the X where the Y goes on the switch.
