This is very helpful. Just purchased this pedal to pair with my timeline. I know very little on how to work these types of pedals so this was incredibly helpful. Excited for all the presets which makes things easier on me. Mainly using pedals as a writing tool for inspiration. Thank you!

That was an excellent 5 minute, okay maybe 12 minute video. :) I’ve been looking for a video where you could actually see the interface, someone describe how it functions and your video was perfect for that. I’m in the market for one of these and wanted to understand how I would use it live, manage patches, use the switches. Thanks so much.

Like to see more about that heel toe pedal option- I have this unit and love it but dont know how to save my favorite presets and call them back up. Love some tips for live stage in that area- as it is now I just mess around and find my sound per song in real time at home and vibe out- but get confused between value knob and one next to it (delay) because they seem to do the same thing at times? Even you touched it and it moved seconds the same?

Wish you could do more demos on Strymon because this is the most understandable one I have seen! Thank you! Question. Does turning the TYPE knob affect the preset or change it to a different preset?

Great video man! It was clear! I'm about to buy this pedal and I was like ''Where do I start?'' haha A lot of times during the video I was like ''Ahhhhhhhh...THAT's what this parameter is for'' and so on haha I'll still have to play around it..like a lot, but I'm pretty sure I'll find some sounds that I like pretty quickly! And just a question..so you can store preset on A, b and C? How you do it?
@kiesshauer
@kiesshauer 7 лет назад
Awesome, glad to help! It's easy to store -- you just hold down the middle button (between all the voicings) it asks you to save, and you just click a preset. Easy. The manual will tell you that, though. :)
@bengirard1984

Thanks! Actually I bought it earlier tonight and brought it to our jam space! :D Maaannnn....best gear purchase I've done in a long, long time...I just scratched the surface of what this pedal can do, but it sounded amazing! It's a keeper for sure and I think it's a great investment for the money...yeah it's expensive but I don't think I'll need another reverb pedal for I don't know how many years!

3 minutes on it where the demonstration really begins, though there is an explanation of the cab switch (thank you) about 30 seconds before. I feel like the three switches must do more than switch between presets and turn on one effect using A. Id havee liked this explained more.
@kiesshauer
@kiesshauer 7 лет назад
The three main switches? They just turn on and off each preset. You press A and B at the same time to bank down, and B and C at the same time to bank up. Also, one of them has an infinite freeze/hold function when you hold it down -- C, I think.
@ai4nlp

Is tone knob a global-eq (acting on both clean and wet signal) or is a high damp only for wet signal? Thanks!
@kiesshauer
@kiesshauer 6 лет назад
Pretty sure it's just the wet signal, but not 100% sure.

Question, if I save a patch (overwrite) and power down will it power up to the same bank I'm in? How do I know what bank i'm in when I altering a patch?
@kiesshauer
@kiesshauer Год назад
The bank is usually displayed on the screen, so that part is pretty easy! I can’t remember if it powers back to the same bank…could be a setting you choose.

Hi Ryan, have you been able to try a Boss Rv-500? How do you think these two compare?
@kiesshauer
@kiesshauer 6 лет назад
Briefly at NAMM this year, yeah. They have the same basic functions -- obviously the algorithms sound different, and the interface is different. So to me if you like the sounds and interface on both, then it's just down to a budget question!
@rocknroll3214

Hey so I noticed you are plugged left in right out. I’m having the issue that left in left out lowers the volume when the pedal is on and if I do it like you it doesn’t. Is that your reason for having it like that?
@kiesshauer
@kiesshauer 3 года назад
If I did that it wasn’t on purpose, haha...I think left in left out is how it’s labeled for mono. I’ve never run into a volume issue like that...but if you found a way around, go for it!

@kiesshauer

I think you're just asking about the stock sounds that come with the pedal...if so, then yes a factory reset will give you all the presets the pedal ships with when it's new.

Good demo. I bought a Bigsky and I think it is defect cause the footswitch AB/BC way to change the banks presets are not working. The only way to change banks is by turning the Valu knob... Help

I've been carefully listening about you talking about the Strymon Bigsky. I guess the Nightsky will be more versatile in terms of ambient making. My question is straight. What you think about the Nightsky ? Is it worth me putting 600 bucks on it ?
@kiesshauer
@kiesshauer 3 года назад
My 2 cents is that it totally depends on your context. From what I've seen watching NightSky demos (not played one yet) it seems better at making sounds that are a little more out there, whereas the BigSky is more straightforward.

Unless I missed it here and the other 2 dozen videos, i am yet to see anyone demonstrate how to SAVE, name and put it some where where it can be easily found. I scan save to say button 1 but its 50/50 to find it again. I can save and then put it at bank 1 number 1. Finding it again seems to be a pita. Renaming I can get 3 or 4 letters in and then it stops???? ------- Also say you are at the plate reverbs. When you spin the wheel it changes to the next type. No! I want to just scroll through the ton of Strymon plate reverbs without going around the wheel. How? Thanks.
@kiesshauer
@kiesshauer 7 лет назад
If you ask me, the best way to manage presets is to use their software -- either the Strymon Preset Librarian (the older more stable software) or Strymon Nixie (newer, beta software that is still being developed and crashes sometimes but still works). Both are free, and just need a MIDI interface to connect to your pedal. Inside you can rename, reorder, save, backup and do pretty much anything to your presets. To your other question -- the BigSky comes pre-loaded with 300 of Strymons presets, some of each type. There isn't a way to quickly get to all of the built in presets that use the plate setting unless you use the Nixie editor -- that would let you go in and rearrange all of the plate presets (they're color-coded) so that they are next to each other if that's what you want to do. Make sense?
@JIMJAMSC
@JIMJAMSC 7 лет назад
Not really. You would think you could turn the type to say plate and then scroll though the hundreds of factory presets. Maybe there is??? All I can do is go around the wheel and come back to plate and see what the next one is. Repeat. Then I guess if before you wear the rotary wheel out and find one you like, maybe tweak it,save it. So far I have saved to a bank and set it at ONE so I can find it. Occasionaly I run across it so I am making progress. But YES, *I need to find out what I need to run to my computer so I can do all this via a mouse* as I have already got the Big sky onto a table to save my already failing back. *PS* Found the Roland UM-ONE MK2 USB MIDI Interface
@kiesshauer
@kiesshauer 7 лет назад
Yeah, there's not a built in way to do that. :( The only way would be to use the Nixie software that I described. And yeah, the UM-ONE is one of Strymon's recommended interfaces that works well (that's the one I use also) and it works great. Go mess around with Nixie and then you can organize and rearrange and rename to your heart's content via mouse and keyboard on your computer. :) Hope that helps!

Hey Ryan, I have a BlueSky and trying to decide whether or not it's overkill to upgrade to the BigSky. I love the sounds I get with the BlueSky, but I like the idea of being able to have three sounds quickly accessible with one click. I also play directly into Garageband currently for practicing at night and I like the idea of the cab filter. Just wondering what your overall opinion of the sounds and ease of dialing in good sounds is. I know a lot of people say the Timeline is more complicated to use than simpler pedals like the El Cap and Brig, but I tend to disagree. I love how easy it is to recall and tweak saved presets.
@kiesshauer
@kiesshauer 8 лет назад
+Kristopher Kinzie Yo man! Here's my 2 cents: YES. Of course it's more complicated than the Blue Sky, but it's more complicated to learn not more complicated to use, and that's a big difference if you ask, me. I wouldn't shy away from something that is better just because it takes a little more effort to learn. Plus with MIDI capability you get way more practical access than 3 presets (you get 300), and the sounds are amazing. Also I practice through headphones a lot these days (kids and such at the house) and the cab filter is honestly great for that. You're not going to go "it sounds just like an amp!" but especially when you're playing along with something else, it sits a lot better mix-wise and your drives do sound a little more amp-like. If that didn't sell you, I don't know what will, haha. :) All kidding aside, for me it was worth the investment.
