Low, Fast, Loud, and expensive...right? Turns out being super low isn't always super bad. From entering and leaving the car, to going over every day obstacles like speed bumps. Sports Cars don't nearly struggle with as many things as the General Public still thinks they do! Liked this video? Go subscribe and watch more like "5 Gamer Misconceptions About Cars!" if you like cars and car culture, perhaps any of my other Car Enthusiast and other STupid Things Car Guys say videos will be a treat to watch! Why does this part of the description seem so shoehorned and ham-fisted? Well it's because the algae rhythm (Apparently I can't say the actual word, otherwise it thinks I'm criticizing it, but just say those two aloud) likes it when I shove as many keywords into the description as possible, AHEM, Noob Enthusiast Misconceptions About Cars, uhh sorry. COUGH 10 Words Every Car Guy Must Know! Non-car Guys be like, oh wow, what a strange cold. I'm just shouting Video titles...ACHOO 5 Car Enthusiast Misconceptions from Non-car People. Wow, what a mouthful.
Also that Honda Fit and Civic be slaying
RIP that RX-8. Maybe your Apex Seals rest in peace.

Half the weight, and 60 years old. Back in those days 50 hp was fairly fast for pretty much everything with that weight (for a European like me at least). Look at any Nissan S car from the 90s and you'll probably be equal to faster in them. It's something called getting with the times, not even a Fiesta ST is slower. A reason I'm glad about the release of the GR86. Because they fixed a car that comes standard with frickin Prius tires.

Another huge misconception is that if a sports car is "slow," there no way it could possibly be fun. When I was shopping for a Miata i had people genuinely warn me not to get one because they're slow, boring, wouldn't be like how you'd expect, and that I'd end up wanting to get rid of it (even though I had driven a Miata and fell on love with how it felt). I ended up buying a real nice green 1997 M Edition and guess what? I love it! I love how it takes corners, I love how you can feel the road when driving it, I love how light it is, I love how small it is, I love how responsive the throttle is, I love how zippy the engine is, and I love the convertible top. I could give a crap less if a Honda Accord can beat me at a stop light, I'm having fun! Also, if you ever drive a Miata, it feels faster than it actually is. Its almost like driving a big go kart.

@@dbabu51 It's how low it is, the perspective makes it feel faster than it really is. Add some real torque for a kick in the pants (not found in a Miata) and people think you are absolutely flying. Driving my buddy home from the bar, passing a cop right after getting on the highway (and also looking for our near immediate exit) and he's going "slow down, slow down, cop!" and "I'm like dude I'm doing 45 and this is at least a 50, anything slower and it'll be suspicious."

6:45 I've noticed a lot of people think a performance car variants (excluding dodge) are only as good as it's 0-60 times. But I believe that handling is infinitly more important then flat out speed. I own a WRX and sure she's not the quickest off the line but she's a joy in the corners. I'm not gonna hate on you for liking flat out speed, just be aware that speed isn't the only factor to a sports car.

For me it's all about character. New cars feel like soulless machines with so much tech they practically drive themselves (or actually do drive themselves.) I like older cars that had more personality and made you feel connected with the car through the transmission, the engine, the sound, and just the way the cars drove. You were in control of the car, they didn't have a bunch of computers to save you. Because of that I mostly only like cars from the early 2000s and before.

Thats why there was a massive jump from the C4 to the C5 Corvette… the C5 was the first Corvette that was seriously raced in Sports Car racing. Its so cool seeing the Corvette evolve over the years thanks to the Pratt & Miller team’s commitment to domination in GT1/GT2/GTLM and the upcoming GT3 Pro. Thats why the Corvette is what it is now. Two things I wanted to point out, and perhaps someone could help. 1) About sports cars scraping less nowadays, I assume law also affects it. As time passes, the requirements for roadworthiness are refined, as happened in my country about a decade ago (all cars are requested the lowest point of the vehicle to be a least 10cm above the surface), so perhaps higher ride height has been included. 2) Rally cars (most specifically WRC) all have or had VERY low power for a race car (back in 2010, they were normally capped at 270hp i think) and still could accelerate extremely fast while still bringing insane handling. Sure, the standards for the WRC are completely different from Nascar or Stock cars, but they are all very intense sports nonetheless, and you could DEFINITELY have a lot of fun in a low power car around a track.
@IR-xy3ij

For me the most importante thing are: handling, weight and acceleration. You don't need much hp when your car is slim. Also tops speed is irrelevant. In my country even on the fastest motorway the speed limit is 140km/h (85mph). So even an old crappy car can go that fast, you don't need 800 hp for that. That's why I value more the handling of the car.

True with the “sports cars being a waste of space” argument. If the new technology cannot perform well at its best (sports cars), then why bother putting it on a car that can’t handle its maximum at all. It’s like all those motorsports, they are all testing grounds for new technology to see if they can work on the road-going cars you see today.

F for the RX8 Also to the point of MPG: There is a point to be made about every car having it's "optimum" drive train as I call it, where the performance is good/acceptable without having too much consumption compared to the other engine options. My friend who's big with 3 series said if I'll get an E46, i shouldn't get a 320i but at least a 325, since the real world MPG would potentially even be lower than for the 320 when not driving like a grandma. Seen this myself with my old 1.6 Hyundai Getz vs. the 1.3/1.4 version. Both even have the same( or the 1.3 slightly less, not sure anymore) mpg on paper, just that one has 105hp on 1050KG and the other 82 HP on the same car. The 1.1 with 54 HP even has worse MPG on paper lmao

Sports cars are awesome, and if you get the right one its sweet. So i have a BMW e92 with a 220 hp N/A 6 cylinder and bmws xDrive system. Gonna get tuned and build over the comming years, but goal is 300 hp. However it has awesome handling, where i have run with mustangs and bigger cars, who have 2-4 times my power and they struggle to keep up on a twisty backroad. On the other hand it will fit 4 full grown adults over 6 feet without issues. And doing all this while having a 440 liter boot, which is more than the estate version of the previous generation. Untill i get a kid, its the optimal car as i can load it up easly and with more than most hatchbacks. Except for the fact that the cats and sensors in them just took a massive crap so looking at a nice bill to replace them due to BMW building them into the headers, so need brand new headers.

I will always remember this one time I raced an Impala SS along this waterfront road near where I live. I had an FC RX-7 with 146 horsepower. He had his 5.7. He would get 3-4 car lengths ahead of me about 3 seconds after the road straightened out, but at even the slightest bend, I was right up his exhaust once again, and this happened at least a dozen times before we ran out of road and had to call it

I totally agree with the point about some cars not being a "real sports car". Especially as someone who owns an Acura RSX. I had a coworker look bummed when I told him it was a 4 cylinder but it's the most fun vehicle I've ever owned because I can give it absolute hell (revving to 6k almost every shift) and by the end of it I'm doing 75-80 mph. It's a blast! Driving a slow car fast is a joy all car enthusiasts should experience imo.

To add to that wasteful argument, racing in general functions 2 ways, 1) stress testing for manufacturers 2) marketing, theres a reason why the most reputable, respected, and largest car brands in the world dabbled in one or multiple racing series. 1: I'm 5'7" and my 86 Camaro was long. I have to reach out to floor it. Not necessary but when you need to get up to speed or you just want to hear the engine roar this matters. 2: This is what bugs me about people who lower their cars. They don't get an air suspension to raise their car to clear speed bumps. They spent all this money on a body kit and performance parts and then money on lowering their car but did it cheaply where their car is track low and terrible for the road. It feels like the person wasn't thinking. 3: My 86 Camaro had a 16 gallon tank and the last owner rebuilt the engine. IT IS THIRSTY for fuel. 4: There are sports sedans and sports trucks. 5: There are reasons for these cars and aren't a waste. I drive a 2015 Mazda3 and I have no need for extra seats. I just need a front seat and a place to pack tools. An ideal car for me would be a Geo Metro or something similar.
