Mistakes That Beginner Skaters Make *TIMESTAMPS* : 0:57~ Standing Straight Up 1:58 ~ Looking at Their Feet 3:45 ~ Walking , Not Striding 4:41 ~ Standing Straight Whilst Attempting to Recover From a Fall 5:42 ~ No Confidence
My mistake was not thoroughly researching how to stop or control my speed. Now, I have a broken ankle after my first day out on my new skates! 😭 I'm hoping that I can be back out and practicing in 7 weeks and make sure I OWN this ish!! 💪🏼
@@harden.nautica Oh, dude... I am so sorry!! Recovering from a broken leg bone was probably one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I still have 5 days until I get my cast off and I am antsy as heck. If you ever need or want to talk, honestly, I'm here for you. This was the first real bone I've ever broken and I'm hoping against everything it is the last. Best of luck with your recovery! Just try to take it as easy as you can and cry whenever you need to over whatever you need to (even if it's because you dropped your goat cheese on the floor and your dog got it before you could because of your crutches 😅).
@@madisonmorris6252 Madison thank you so much you’re an absolute sweetheart. This is also my first broken bone and man is it hard to get through! 😭 I just got a call today stating that they want to do surgery to my ankle since I have a torn ligament and I really did have a good cry about that and not being able to bend down to get to the freezer for an ice cream sandwich hehe. Nothing I won’t be able to get through though! I’m glad you’re almost done healing up! Skate for me once you’re up and at ‘em! Lord knows I won’t be out there for a long time after this 😬 hehehe
@@harden.nautica So proud of your attitude!! I definitely was in a darker place for a good long bit. It's crazy how much not walking can impact you. I hope your surgery went well? It's been a little but and I wanted to check up on ya. :) How you holdin' up?
I love Queer girl straight skates sm, she helped me learn how to fall safely and other stuff! :) I'm glad I have her as a source of learning tricks and all
Thid advice is a lifesaver! Got my skates in the mail yesterday and spent the whole evening getting my stride down in little laps in my room! Bending down definitely saved me from falling many a time! IDK if this helps anyone else with their stride but my dad gave some great advice that really helped me: If you've ever ice skated, striding in roller skates is essentially the same thing (especially if you're used to skates with toe picks) Who knew skating and skating would be so similar?
You're hilarious 😆. I cracked up several times watching the little side videos. Brand new skater, one week in. It's scarier and a little harder than I thought, but I'm so looking forward to getting a little better each day. Love the tips about falling and having confidence.
I love all ur videos!! U have literally taught me everything since I first got my skates!! I am still trying to learn to get over my fear/anxiety & to not look down at my skates so much haha :(
As a new skater and fat skater (Inspired by Courtney Shove 🥰🥰🥰) Here are some things I have learned along the way especially while learning and being fat. #1 Learn to fall and get up, I can not emphasize enough. As a fat person there is an unspoken rule about not falling or wanting to be on the ground bc frankly its hard to get up especially if you have not been physically active lately. In reality its a fundamental for being safe and having fun while skating , once you gain confidence with getting up you are more likely to progress in your skate practice. With that being said thats what I plan on working on this month! Falling and getting back up!
Very true! For the first few weeks, if I fell and didn't have a curb to use to get back up, I would unlace my skates and just go home. Definitely hindered my progress.
Fellow fat gal who started skating for actual real instead of just the occasional roller rink trip & learning to fall safely, bend deep, recover, & repeat is super helpful. It really makes me happy to see so many body-positive people giving tips & pointers so people who have body-positivity issues but want to try & skate can hopefully be inspired to go out and do it! Also, quality safety gear has made a lot of my fear of falling way more manageable because thanks to tips & instructional videos, when I do fall, I can fall as safe as possible & have gear in place to help keep me safe too. Loving the joy we're finding in these & I wish anyone no matter what their size or experience level is a ton of happy thoughts, positive energy, & zen vibes to go out and be a total badass with those skates 😊😊😊
I really needed this today, I just bought my inlines today, enjoyed it so much that I just did it for the excerise. And today I’ve been feeling depression espresso today, I love you’re confidence and eccentricity, goals (don’t worry have so much on a good day) but it’s amazing to see someone else with it, thankyou
Finally got the courage and ordered a pair of Moxie Rainbow Riders . Haven't skated in over 30 years 😓 fell within 10 secs in my kitchen 🤕Here all for how to's l can get 🙌 my goal is to skate around the block by the end of summer 🤗🤩
Rebel, I adore you and your channel! The helpful info, the happiness and confidence you exude, THE OUTFITS! But Bowie just steals the show constantly, he is so adorable I can’t … Have to watch each video twice, for you and for him😭😭😭🥰🥰🥰
Love your talk about confidence and positivity. I have been skating indoors since I was a kid, so I am not a beginner per say, but I am new to outdoor skating and its a lot scarier!! I also just switched from speed skates to regular skates and it feels so different.
Just ordered some skates and I'm so excited! I was so good at it when I was a kid, and I'm hoping some of that skill is still there! This is the first video of yours I watched and I'm obsessed, you're an absolute queen and I need that jumpsuit,
So some years ago I hurt my you know what while skating at a skate rink and never wanted to do it again but now I wanna do it bc it looks fun and cool!
Awe im so proud of you babes!! I hear your name dropped on other skaters channels using you as a reference! It’s awesome. Your frenchie is just like my bfs frenchie... he is so chill! Bowie makes me laugh in these videos so much..❤️😍 And thanks for the positivity feedback just in general. Needed it at this moment 😘
Agh! I’m so jealous! When I was growing up WAY back in the ‘80s, I never felt more at home than when I was on my skates every Friday & Saturday night at the local rink. I would stay from opening to closing every time. Now, there’s no where for grown “kids” to skate in my tiny town. 😭😭😭
I really love your videos! I'm a beginner and before I bought my skates I saw your videos and it was so helpful, so thanks for sharing your tips! Beijos from Brazil :)
@@ana-ve8qn they're wonderful! I'm actually using them for the 1st time right now and I love how smoothly I'm able to roll. Although, I got the moxi beach bunnies, and I actually think there's a little too much ankle support for my preference. It's very stiff. But that might also just be because I haven't broken them in yet. But other than that I love them so much and can't wait until I build up enough skill to start doing tricks and things!
@@infinitedusk5438 oh that's amazing im so happy for you! I actually got mines yesterday as a birthday gift! Mine are kinda stiff also but I got Candi Girl Skates! I actually was just rolling around (not skating but just rolling) and my legs where shaking a lot 😅 I don't know if it's just me but I'm going to practice later today!
@@ana-ve8qn yay! I hope you have a wonderful time! The shaking is most likely just from your leg muscles needing built up. Make sure to engage your core and maybe to some squats or wall sits. 😁 we can be beginners together! I just stopped a few minutes ago and while I did figure out how to plow stop, the toe stops are currently scary for me....
so lucky to learn from you! this is so helpful. it validates that my progress, however slow, is still progress and that i'm doing all the right things to get there. #5 was my favorite for so many reasons
I skated for the first time today successfully and it was in large part to your videos! Thank you so so much!!! I was pep talking myself the whole time. Giving myself little cues like "stride, don't walk". I was able to stand up on my own. So many wins for my first day! Thank you Rebel
I LOVE your vibes. I grew up with skates being part of my daily wardrobe. However I'm taking inline skates. Once rollet blades came out in 89' I think made the switch. Back then it was frowned apon to bring your outdoor skates to a rink, so i was back on regular for a party and found myself baffled how different it felt having switched some 3 years prior. NEVER wanting to go to traditional skates again until 3 weeks ago, now i have a lovely new pair and am embracing this new adventure. Glad to have found your channel. Personality it a big plus for me. You make me motivated and smiley.
I just wanted to say thank you! Because of you and your videos, I actually learned how to skate!! I am so un-sporty that I truly didn't believe I would even be able to go forward 😂. But I just kept watching your beginner videos, remembered all the tips and important points when I practiced, and I can actually skate!! You are an amazing teacher to be able to do that through a screen :) Thank you so much
I got Impalas for my birthday yesterday, tried them at home but I struggle to brake haha I will start practicing outside (not on the streets haha) soon, I will follow your advices, I hope to be able to go forward without falling! Thanks for your videos!
Thanks for these videos! I'm coming to this party in my 50's. Determined to learn but have taken a couple hard falls on my back/backside. Does one finally just learn to stay knees bent ass out? I keep repeating knees bent when practicing but then wham I go down and realize I was upright. It's usually when I'm turning around. Thank you SO much for the falling video.
Thank you for this video. I have only an hour of skating under my belt and this video was so helpful for skating AND the pep talk at the end was a much needed mental health boost!
Thank you for this! You look like Miley Cyrus!!! My protective gear makes me more confident in trying new moves and dance skating. My Moxi's are extra cute and I match my outfit and accessories and that helps too
Just ordered a pair of skates, I'm excited and nervous atst. I've always wanted to learn how to skate as a teen but never did. Just turned 37 and I basically said fuck it, I'm doing it! Also, your furbabe is super adorable!
Am not new to skating per say, used to roller skate when I was young. Now a matured lady... got roller skates (moxi beach bunny stoked 💁🏻♀️)... but when for my first solo site and did not wear protective gear; wore a helmet thou), but hit a rock and fell. My right knee is messed up and my right hand as well. Am out of commission for a week or so. But pumped to get back there again. So... as first timer, or any timer... wear ur protective gear. U don’t know what’s gonna b on the road. Luv it channel 🤍
Me just realising that I once got skates and returned them because thought I broke the heel because I kept falling over No one told me I should bend the knee! haha! thanks for the tips!
I love you for pumping us up for roller skating. I’m been trying just to stand and get comfy for two days know. It was harder than I thought but I’m having fun getting comfortable falling down. Welll seee how the rest goes much love 💕
You got this! Everyone's journey is different, and it is definitely a difficult skill to learn! Roller skating is hard, but totally worth it and amazing.
First big fall a couple of days ago (and sprained ankled) and after watching your video I realized what happened, on top of the lack of confidence. Thanks for this content!
This video is so helpful...the banana out is what I always do. Really all of these I do now. Just started back skating. Great video & overall content! 💜
Legally blind new skater here! I know looking ahead is a must but I can’t identify small things to avoid like rocks and small cracks until I make contact with them. Any tips for skating for me?
Maybe you could do a sweep of the space before you start? Like a small safe place, perhaps a parking lot, and pick an area you will use. You could or a friend, remove any stones or things that could be a hazard BEFORE you put your skates on. Then you could feel more confident to start to skate :)
Also softer/wider wheels! They help absorb some of those smaller bits of debris and make some cracks easier to go over (staggered feet also a must!) id recommend the radar energy 62mm or the Bont BPM wheels which I think are also 62mm :)
Yes! I busted my ass at the rink last week! Instead of bending my knees & getting low when I lost my balance, I stood all the way up. My “fail Friday” fall was played over and over again by my middle school students. Mind you a student is the one who recorded it and talked me into doing a race in the first place & my mind told me I could (another NO NO for a beginner). Watch it in IG Reels @tippybeeskating so you won’t make the same mistake.
WOW I've never been so early and I love this channel!!! This video came just in time I just got my skates yesterday!!! So thanks I'm going to go practice right now!!!
Hey Rebel and Shove! Can y'all show us how you adjust your avanti plate's toe stops? I just got a pair and I can't get the hang of adjusting it! Plus, I don't see any other media that really physically shows me how to do this. Tips and tricks are much appreciated! Your videos always brighten my days :)
Thank you, incredibly helpful. I am on my 3rd day of learning and can’t even go straight without someone else holding me 🥲 but i am working hard on beating the fear
